★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Really bad experience at this Avis location. Arrived 20 mins ahead of a 10am reservation, which I pre-booked. There was a line of people and one poor guy on the desk trying to handle the people and calls by himself. When I got to the front the employee was handling our booking and another customer in tandem. He told me that the 'mystery car' would be a mini-van. No problem, we had 4 people including an elderly gentleman but as long as we could get him to a family retirement meal, it would be all good. Then he realised that the other customer he was assisting also ordered a 'mystery car'. He got a call from the guy running the cars, and told us both there was a mix up, and that we would need to decide who would take the mini van and who would take 'the only other option' which was a truck 'like a 12 seater UPS truck'. (!). Oh - and the van didn't have much gas so we'd need to fill it soon. Or... We could *both* upgrade for $200 a day extra!! (suddenly the mini van wasn't an option it seemed), This felt like a classic bait and switch - I understand a mystery car is a roll of the dice but it should still be a drivable CAR - not a 'Mystery Truck'!After all the back and forth my family was getting nervous, we were already well past our pick-up time, running late and stopping for gas would have meant missing the meal. At this point we caved and upgraded. To add insult to injury, I could only leave the car lot by swiping my credit card and later realised this had charged an extra $240 to my card. Apparently I was meant to scan a voucher alongside my ticket, but the only information about this was in the elevator, which I didn't take until I returned the car later that day. All in all this was a terrible experience, I feel bad for the employees and customers that have to deal with this mess by Avis. I am a corporate customer and I'll be feeding back to my company that we should switch because this level of non-service will waste time and money.
Jul 19, 2025 · Bec VaughanNo cars available for my reservation. This company overbooked so badly I ended up being 3 hours late to work. At one point there were 13 people waiting for cars, so about 25 people standing in their small lobby. They just kept saying, 30 more minutes….for HOURS. I should have read reviews - sounds like this is usual behavior for this company. Not “beyond their control” or “because people didn’t return their cars on time.” I’m done with Avis forever. You can’t treat your customers like this.I’ve communicated my experience to Costco Travel, and filing a complaint with the BBB and Attorney Generals office.By the way, while I was waiting I called Avis to try and get more information than this location could give me….the person I spoke with gave me a number to call….IT WAS FOR THIS EXACT LOCATION. I called and the phone 3 feet away from me started ringing. If I wasn’t so tired and defeated it would have been comical.
Jul 13, 2025 · JP RigginsPickup was easy if not a bit brusque. They didn’t have electric as I reserved but was given a decently new sedan. Wasn’t fueled up but staff tried to say it was. Returned car with more gas than was in it when I picked it up and they still charged me. Had to contact customer service to handle, they did refund me ultimately. But too much friction for what should be a simple transaction with a prepaid reservation.
Jun 28, 2025 · Bryce RobertsonI reserved a sub-compact car. When I arrived, I waited 45 minutes to be served, and when I finally got to the front of the line, they tried to force me to take an SUV for an additional charge because "it would be faster." I said no, I would like what I paid for. They then said they had an electric vehicle available. I said no, I don't want an EV, because I don't want to have to deal with charging. They said they had "experts" downstairs, and they promised me there would be enough charge to drive to and from Philadelphia without having to recharge. I reluctantly agreed. When I got downstairs, I asked them where the charging port is. It look them about 10 minutes to find the charging port, which already made me nervous about their "expertise."It turns out there was not nearly enough charge to drive to and from Philadelphia. I tried charging the car in Philadelphia so we could drive home, and after 45 minutes of charging, the car had only charged 3 percent. It said it was going to take 9 hours to fully charge. I called the 210 State Street location to ask what to do and the representative there hung up on me. I then had to drive 30 minutes in the wrong direction to the Philadelphia airport location, as all other locations were closed at this point. This added over two and a half hours to my journey home, and when I asked for a partial refund, they said I would get no refund, because I did not report this during my rental period (despite calling Avis to ask what to do, but apparently the lack of documentation of my call in their system is my fault).
Mar 18, 2025 · Lauren GlasbyHad no problem renting a car from this location. But be prepared to wait! Showed up 15 minutes before my reservation pickup time having done online precheck only to see a huge line ahead of me... Waited about an hour in the line to get the car. The employee was doing his best to get everyone checked in and with a key quickly but they are seriously short-staffed. I lost an hour of the reservation time. Just waiting to get the car. Otherwise no problem with the car. No problem with customer service rep on the phone. Very convenient location in downtown Brooklyn.
