Jul 02, 2025 · Cory BungerAfter a horrible travel experience coming into Denver I finally made it to the Avis location. While boarding the bus, the driver asked if I was Avis Preferred, which I am. The driver then drops me off of at the preferred area. Upon looking up my vehicle location, I see it’s in the far corner of your large facility in the non-preferred section. After arriving at the parking stall, there was no car! An employee was nearby and I asked about what to do and he says this happens “all the time” and that I must walk all the way back the preferred booth. The agent in the booth assigns me a new car and annoyingly puts me in a car that was even further away in the non-preferred area. After complaining he says all the preferred cars are taken, so I guess I just don’t count? After getting to the new car, it smells horribly and there is a massive warning message on the screen about how the car is past its oil change date. I now have a headache due to the smell. Well done.

I got no response to the email I sent to email address in the comment below. I added pictures of the state of the car when I got it to show the scratches on the back corner of the truck bed and the stuff left on the car windows.Original review:Would not recommend renting from this location, and if you do only pick up during the day and make sure to take EXTENSIVE photos of your car. Do not accept anything with prior damage (hard these days I know).20 days after my rental I was charged $900 for a windshield ding. In the pictures provided (after I requested them) it appears to be a ding a small rock would’ve made, easily fixed with a patch, almost impossible to see. Ive used Avis for years and never had an issue like this, so I’ve grown lax about documenting the condition of the car at pick up. Either way, I picked the car up at night and the cars are stored in a poorly lit outdoor parking lot, not setting any renter up for success in documenting prior damage. I’ve attached a photo of the crack they charged me $900 for - in addition their own reporting of the odometer in the damage report is higher than the reading for when I returned the car.

The vehicle they eventually provided was excellent, which brought the review up to a 2-star. A week after the vehicle was returned, we received a $450 bill for a "vehicle cleaning cost". When I questioned this, the Avis response was "Charges for vehicle cleaning are assessed when a vehicle is returned in such a condition that makes it not rentable and requires the vehicle to be sent for detailing putting it out of service. Charges are calculated based on the level of cleaning required to return the vehicle into service. This includes, but is not limited to, the removal of food stains on the seats, pet hair that cannot be removed through normal vacuuming, excessive odor, smoke odor, and cigarette burns." We didn't have pets, smokers, or otherwise smelly people. The attached photos are what they provided as evidence for the charge: Two tissues in a door, vacuuming dirt at the driver's heel area from the parking lot, and a full tank of gas...this is the Avis standard of an unserviceable vehicle that requires offsite service? When challenged again, their response is they regard this as adequate documentation.So, if you DO rent from Avis (particularly at DEN), you'd better vaccum and clean it out to the level that they may deem it immediately rentable, a standard and experience I have NEVER heard of in 40 years of renting cars for business and personal reasons.However, after this experience, I will no longer be renting from Avis anywhere, in case this is a systemic issue.

I literally filled up down the road from the rental return. I even have a receipt and photo showing the mileage and tank gauge. They say it only had 16 of 17.2 gallons. When questioning the check in agent he told me to take it up with corporate. Never using Avis again.
