After returning the car, I was charged a $250 cleaning fee for what seemed like no more than a quick vacuum job. Avis failed to provide sufficient evidence of any damage or excessive dirt that would justify this charge.On top of that, my wife, who has a hearing disability, needs a service dog for assistance. Despite this, Avis tried to charge me for cleaning simply because of the dog, which is a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.Additionally, they tried to charge me $80+ for fuel but luckily I always take photos when I pick up and return the cars. Thanks to that, I was able to have the charge removed. Don't know if others would be as lucky if they didn't have such habit.What frustrated me the most was that after I reached out to Avis to address my concerns, they ignored my request to address the issue fairly and chose the easiest way out -- drop the $250 fee with no consequences. They didn’t even acknowledge the discrimination related to my service animal.I would highly recommend avoiding Avis if you’re looking for transparent billing and fair treatment, especially if you have a service animal.They can impose any charges they want if you have no proof to dispute it, and even if you do provide evidence, they simply remove the charge with no accountability—it’s both predatory and discriminatory.Below are pictures they sent me as proof of "excessive pet hair" and the photo I took immediately upon receiving the car, you can see the fuel level is not full.

I filed my first lawsuit in my name (I'm an attorney and have never personally sued ANYONE) against this rent-a-car location because they charged me $450 to clean the car when I brought it back pristine. They claimed it had "smoke" smells and that I left clumps of hair all over the car. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life and I have short hair that doesn't shed. I brought the car back without any issues - not even a single piece of trash. I contested their claim and they basically responded saying "too bad" and took the money off my credit card without my permission or any further resolution.UNBELIEVABLE. I'm set for trial in small claims court in September. Wish me luck. DON'T EVER RENT FROM THIS STUPID STUPID COMPANY. There's plenty of other options at this airport.

I returned my car on 5/30/2025 8:30 AM, and the guy told me “You’re all set”, then they forgot to close my contract, which leads me to not able to pick up my new reservation car in New York. I called several times their customer service team and branch location not helpful. Leads me so frustrated and disappointed in New York.
May 31, 2025 · Wencheng ZhaoUnfortunately my flight was delayed and I arrived past my scheduled pickup time and Avis added an additional $424 to my 3 day reservation without telling me. Customer service over the phone isn’t able to help and could only open up a ticket. The first person to respond acknowledged the error and refunded the wrong amount ($167 short.) The second person changed stories and stated that I had received an upgraded vehicle and that was the reason for the additional charges. When I stated that my reserved class was unavailable and I was given a Prius because that is all that was available the next customer service rep changed stories and claimed that the additional charges were because I picked up the vehicle late. You would think being in their Presidents Club would offer some assistance but I still have not been able to speak with an actual person and continue waiting days between emails with different representatives.I also had to wait over 30 minutes in line just to pickup the car in the first place. I’ll never rent with Avis again.
