Basit Ambulette Introduce
For many New Yorkers, particularly those with mobility challenges or specific medical transportation needs, navigating the city's vast landscape requires more than just a regular car service. It demands specialized vehicles and, more importantly, a team that understands the nuances of accessible transport. Basit Ambulette, based in Brooklyn, aims to fulfill this crucial role by providing ambulette services designed for non-emergency medical transportation and other accessible travel requirements.
Basit Ambulette operates as a non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) provider, specializing in services for individuals who require wheelchair-accessible vehicles or assisted transport. Their core mission, as stated on their website, is to offer convenience, comfort, and care to their clients, assisting them in reaching medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, and other destinations. They also highlight a two-men crew service for safely carrying individuals over steps and stairs, ideal for walk-ups or apartment buildings, and can provide wheelchair or stretcher transport. However, recent customer reviews indicate significant challenges with service delivery. Multiple clients have reported issues with drivers consistently being late (15-40 minutes), unreliable dispatchers providing false ETAs, and instances of unhygienic or unsafe conditions, such as a full van requiring a patient to sit on the floor. These experiences suggest a gap between the company's stated mission and its execution, pointing to a need for potential users to exercise caution and plan accordingly if considering their services.
Basit Ambulette is situated in Brooklyn, New York, within a residential area. Their address is:
144 Pilling St, Brooklyn, NY 11207, USA
Pilling Street is located in the East New York area of Brooklyn. This neighborhood is served by various public transportation options, primarily bus lines and subway stations that can connect residents to other parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The nearest subway lines include the J, Z, and L trains, though reaching the specific address from these stations might involve a bus transfer or a significant walk. For individuals with mobility challenges, relying on direct public transport to reach the ambulette service's base might be difficult, emphasizing the critical nature of their pick-up services. For those traveling by car, the location is relatively accessible from major Brooklyn thoroughfares and highways, such as the Jackie Robinson Parkway and the Belt Parkway. However, traffic in New York City can be unpredictable, and potential delays should always be factored in, especially for time-sensitive medical appointments. Given the nature of their service, direct door-to-door transportation is the primary method of interaction for most clients.
Basit Ambulette provides specialized transportation services primarily focused on individuals with mobility challenges and non-emergency medical needs.
Wheelchair-Accessible Ambulette Service: Vehicles are equipped with ramps or lifts to accommodate manual and power wheelchairs, ensuring safe boarding and disembarking.
Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: Transport to and from various medical appointments, including doctor's offices, therapy sessions, dialysis centers, and hospitals.
Stretcher Transportation: Equipped to transport individuals who require a stretcher during transit.
Bariatric Ambulette Transport: Specialized services for bariatric patients, suggesting vehicles with higher weight capacities and appropriate equipment.
Hospital Discharge Transportation: Assisting patients with a safe and comfortable transfer from hospitals back to their homes or other facilities.
Rehabilitation Center Transfers: Providing transport for individuals attending or transferring to and from rehabilitation facilities.
Assisted Boarding and Door-to-Door Service: Drivers are reportedly trained to provide assistance from the client's location, helping them safely into the vehicle, and then from the vehicle to their final destination.
Manual Carry Services: A trained two-men crew can assist in safely carrying individuals over steps and stairs, particularly useful for multi-story residential buildings without elevators.
Same-Day and Scheduled Service: Offering both pre-scheduled appointments and potentially same-day service for urgent, non-emergency needs.
Basit Ambulette's core focus on accessible transportation presents specific features tailored to this crucial need.
Specialized Vehicle Fleet: The primary highlight is their dedicated fleet of ambulettes, designed specifically to accommodate wheelchairs and stretchers, a service not offered by standard car rental companies or typical taxis.
Assisted Transportation: The service emphasizes providing assistance for boarding and disembarking, along with the option for manual carry, which is vital for individuals with significant mobility limitations in urban environments.
Focus on Medical Transport: Their services are explicitly geared towards non-emergency medical transport, indicating an understanding of the requirements for getting patients to and from healthcare facilities.
Bariatric and Stretcher Capability: Offering transport for bariatric patients and those needing stretcher support showcases a broader capacity to serve diverse medical needs.
Potential for Comprehensive Care: The "two-men crew" and "door-through-door" concept, if consistently delivered, could provide a high level of support for patients needing more than just a ride.

For New Yorkers, particularly those with mobility challenges or who manage the care of individuals requiring specialized transport, Basit Ambulette in Brooklyn addresses a deeply vital need that traditional car rental or taxi services cannot meet. The concept of an ambulette service—with vehicles specifically equipped for wheelchairs and stretchers, and the promise of assisted boarding and door-to-door service—is inherently suitable for a local population that includes a significant number of seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The stated services, such as non-emergency medical transportation to and from appointments, hospital discharges, and even manual carry over stairs, highlight a crucial role in enhancing the independence and access to healthcare for many New Yorkers. In a dense urban environment like New York City, where accessibility can be a constant challenge, a service focused entirely on overcoming these barriers is invaluable.
However, it is paramount for prospective local users to approach Basit Ambulette with awareness of past customer experiences. The recurring themes of significant delays, unreliable dispatch communication, and concerns about vehicle conditions and safety standards are serious issues that have impacted past clients' ability to reach critical appointments. While the intent and concept of the service are highly necessary for the community, the execution, as per public reviews, has sometimes fallen short. Therefore, while Basit Ambulette offers services tailored to a critical local need, potential clients in New York should proceed with caution, communicate their specific requirements clearly, and consider contingency plans, especially for time-sensitive medical transportation. For many, the very existence of a specialized service like this represents a vital lifeline, but due diligence on the customer's part is essential to ensure a satisfactory and safe experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This business is not good. Drivers are late and dispatchers are irresponsible. I would call to report driver have not arrived as of yet and would be told to hold on only to be kept on hold. When I call back, the dispatcher would automatically put me on hold. As a result, appointment was cancelled due to my late arrival. I don't recommend this transport service to anyone.
May 05, 2025 · Nellie FloresIf I could give this ambulate service zero stars, I would. The drivers are never on time for scheduled pickups—it’s like a miracle if they arrive within the time slot. Most of the time, they show up 15-40 minutes late, leaving us waiting around endlessly. The dispatchers? Completely unreliable. They lie straight to your face, claiming that the driver is just a few blocks away or “10 minutes out,” but you’ll be stuck waiting for another 20-30 minutes. And it gets worse—drivers often tell me they received the call for the pickup just a few minutes before arriving, which means all those supposed ETAs were lies from the start.Today was the final straw. The driver they sent last minute already had a full van, and I had to sit on the floor because I couldn’t let my 80-year-old patient go to their doctor’s appointment alone. This is completely unacceptable and unsafe. The lack of professionalism and disregard for patients’ time and comfort is beyond frustrating. I would never recommend this service to anyone who actually needs reliable transport, let alone people with medical needs.
Oct 22, 2024 · Nalani FrancisAVOID AT ALL COST! Pick up for a cancer patient treatment was for 8:30am. Called them at 8:40 their dispatcher said that the drive is 20 minutes away. At 9:00 am they said the drive is a few minutes away. At 9:20 dispatcher said the driver is a few minutes way. Called again at 9:30 and they said the driver is stuck and they have no idea when the ambulate is going pick us up. Refused to apologize or even admit that this is wrong. Will complain to city and state to dept of health. This company should not be in the business of helping sick people.
Sep 23, 2024 · dmitriy khavinI have now been riding with Basit N Tariq for close to a year. Most of the drivers are either early or on time. There has only been a few occasions of tardiness and that was definitely due to unexpected weather and road conditions (ex: traffic or an accident). No company or person is perfect but I assure you that riding with Basit; the pros outweigh the cons. 90% of the drivers that I have encountered are polite, professional and gave very good conversation. Having great people skills is a must especially when you are dealing with individuals who have disabilities like myself..... My only major complaint would be some of the vehicles need to be serviced or taken off the road and replaced with a newer or new vehicle because some are malfunctioning, missing seat belt devices, may need a new transmission and an oil change... ***Even if you're using your personal vehicle you still get it serviced because it will Sooner rather than later break down permanently...***..... Those are issues ONLY the Owner of the company can resolve... .... It is the staff (dispatch and the drivers) that runs the business and they as a whole do a great job...
Oct 13, 2024 · Margery LyonsI am utterly disappointed and appalled by Basit Ambulette's service. After scheduling a pick-up for my grandmother, they failed to show up, leaving us waiting for over an hour. This negligence caused my grandmother to miss a crucial doctor's appointment. Their excuse was traffic, but it's completely unacceptable not to show up at all, without even a call to update us. I had to constnalty call them and all I was told was that the driver was "near". The driver was nowhere near and NEVER showed up! This isn't just poor service; it's irresponsibility at its worst. I wouldn't even give them one star if it were an option. I have already reported them and filed a complaint with my grandmother's insurance company, who are now well aware of this incident. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of using Basit Ambulette. They are a terrible company, and you cannot rely on them for any important transportation needs.
