Budget Car Rental Introduce
Hello, fellow Minnesotans! When planning a trip from Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport (MSP) or simply needing a vehicle for local adventures, car rental is often a crucial component. While many well-known brands operate at MSP, understanding the nuances of each can significantly impact your experience. Today, we're taking a deep dive into Budget Car Rental, specifically their operations at 4901 Glumack Dr, St Paul, MN, which serves the MSP Airport.
Budget Car Rental is a globally recognized name, often chosen for its perceived value and extensive fleet. However, recent customer experiences highlight specific areas where potential renters in Minnesota need to exercise caution and diligence. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of what to expect when considering Budget Car Rental at MSP, based directly on feedback from real customers. We will cover their location and accessibility, the standard services they offer, and, importantly, delve into the features and highlights that reveal both positive aspects and significant challenges reported by users. Our goal is to equip you with comprehensive information, enabling you to make the most informed decision for your next car rental in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and hopefully avoid any unpleasant surprises.
A smooth car rental experience is vital for any trip, whether for business or leisure. Issues such as unexpected charges, problems with vehicle condition, or customer service discrepancies can quickly turn a planned journey into a frustrating ordeal. By understanding these potential issues upfront, you can better prepare and advocate for a transparent and satisfactory rental process.
Budget Car Rental at MSP Airport is conveniently located at 4901 Glumack Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA. This address places it directly within the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport complex, offering on-airport pick-up and drop-off, a significant convenience for travelers.
For those arriving at MSP, accessing Budget's services depends on your arrival terminal:
- Terminal 1 (Lindbergh): If you land at Terminal 1, you will follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" and then the "Rental Car Tram." This underground tram takes you to the consolidated Rental Car Facility, where Budget, along with other major rental companies, has its counter. Once at the facility, you'll follow signage to Budget's counter. The path from the tram exit to the counter is generally well-marked.
- Terminal 2 (Humphrey): For arrivals at Terminal 2, you'll find the car rental counters in the Ground Transportation Center, which is on the ground level of the Purple Ramp directly across from the terminal building. Budget will have a counter within this facility.
The on-airport location is designed to be highly accessible, minimizing the need for external shuttles or extended travel from the terminal to pick up your vehicle. This direct access is a major advantage for weary travelers or those needing quick access to their rental. For local Minnesotans, driving to this location is straightforward, with clear signage from major airport access roads, making it easy to pick up or drop off a vehicle without navigating complex city traffic or off-site facilities.
Budget Car Rental, as a major international brand, offers a comprehensive suite of services standard to the car rental industry, catering to a wide range of customer needs:
- Extensive Vehicle Fleet: Budget typically provides a diverse selection of vehicles, from economical compact cars for city driving to spacious full-size sedans, SUVs (including 5-seater, 7-seater, and 8-seater options for families or groups), and vans. This variety aims to suit different travel purposes and budgets.
- Flexible Rental Periods: Customers can book rentals for various durations, including daily, weekly, or longer-term options, providing flexibility for both short trips and extended stays in Minnesota.
- On-Airport Convenience: Being an on-airport provider at MSP means direct pick-up and drop-off at the airport's designated rental car facilities, enhancing convenience for travelers arriving or departing by air. They offer "Keydrop Location" for returns outside of counter hours, though customers are responsible for the vehicle until it's officially checked in.
- Optional Protection Plans: Budget offers various optional protection products, including Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Personal Accident and Effects (PAE) insurance, and Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI). These are designed to reduce financial liability in case of damage, theft, or accidents. However, as noted in reviews, customers should carefully review what is being purchased, especially if booked through third parties.
- Add-on Equipment: Standard optional equipment such as GPS navigation systems, child safety seats, and satellite radio are typically available for rent.
- Fueling Options: Renters have choices regarding how to handle fuel, including prepaying for a full tank, having Budget refuel upon return (at a per-gallon service charge), or refilling the tank themselves before returning the vehicle.
- Fastbreak Service: For frequent renters, Budget's Fastbreak program allows for expedited service, often involving bypassing the counter and heading directly to the car or a dedicated booth for quick pick-up.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Budget Car Rental at MSP Airport presents a mixed bag of experiences, with several significant features and highlights that warrant attention:
- Professional and Courteous Counter Associates (Initial Interaction): One positive note mentioned is that "the associates at the main counter were professional and courteous." This suggests that the initial greeting and interaction at the counter can be pleasant.
- Misleading Sales Tactics for Insurance/Extras: A major highlight, but a negative one, is the accusation of being "tricked and misled" into purchasing additional, "unnecessary" insurance despite having already secured coverage through a third-party booking site like Expedia. The customer reported spending "almost $500 more for the car on top of what we paid through Expedia," and efforts to rectify this with Budget were unsuccessful, even a promised 20% discount on the extra insurance was not applied. This points to potentially aggressive upselling and lack of transparency.
- Vehicle Availability Issues: Another significant problem highlighted is the common occurrence of reserved vehicle types not being available. "When we got to the lot, a Kia wasn't available," despite being signed up for one. While substitutions can happen, the method of offering alternatives ("keys are in the car," and walking off) without proper inspection by an associate is a concern.
- Poor Vehicle Condition and Maintenance: The review details numerous issues with the car provided: "many dings, scratches, etc..." that "were not noted by the associate," a "cracked" front grill, a "flap in the tire," and most critically, an "EXPIRED" Tennessee license plate (12/24, 7 months old at the time of the review). This indicates a severe lapse in vehicle maintenance and safety checks, putting the renter at risk. Budget's response to this safety issue was unhelpful ("take it to a nearby Budget and trade it out" or "call roadside service if we got stopped"), further exacerbating the negative experience.
- Unfair Refueling Charges: Another customer reported being "still charged me a refuel fee" despite returning the vehicle with a full tank of gas. This suggests potential issues with how fuel levels are checked or processed upon return, leading to unfair additional charges and a strong sense of distrust, as the customer stated, "this location is in fact NOT a business location of integrity."
- Difficult Customer Service Post-Rental: The long and frustrating process of contacting Budget's customer service ("NOT user friendly") to resolve issues and the failure to honor promised refunds or discounts indicate significant challenges in post-rental support and problem resolution.
To contact Budget Car Rental at their MSP Airport location, here is the provided information:
Address: 4901 Glumack Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA
Phone: (612) 726-5237
Mobile Phone: +1 612-726-5237
This phone number should connect you directly to the MSP Airport counter. Budget's general customer service or reservation lines (e.g., 1-800-527-0700 for reservations or 1-800-214-6094 for customer service) might also be useful for broader inquiries, but for specific issues related to your rental at the MSP location, the direct number is often preferred. Operating hours for Budget at MSP are typically extensive to accommodate flight schedules, often from early morning (e.g., 6:00 AM) to late evening (e.g., 1:00 AM), seven days a week. However, it's always advisable to confirm these hours directly with the location or on Budget's official website, especially around holidays.
For Minnesotans considering Budget Car Rental at their MSP Airport location (4901 Glumack Dr, St Paul), the provided customer feedback paints a concerning picture. While the on-airport location offers undeniable convenience for travelers flying in or out of MSP, the repeated issues with misleading sales tactics for insurance, the unavailability of reserved vehicle types, the poor condition of some vehicles (including expired tags and visible damage), and unfair refueling charges significantly detract from its suitability. The difficulties in resolving these problems through Budget's customer service further compound the negative experience.
For local users, this means that while Budget might initially appear to be a convenient and cost-effective option, there's a considerable risk of unexpected additional costs and a frustrating rental experience involving poorly maintained or unsafe vehicles. The severe issues highlighted in the reviews, particularly regarding safety (expired tags) and integrity (misleading sales and refuel fees), suggest that despite the brand recognition, this particular location may not consistently deliver the reliable and transparent service that Minnesotans expect and deserve. Therefore, while physically accessible, potential renters are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, thoroughly review all charges, meticulously inspect their rental vehicle before leaving the lot (and document any existing damage with photos/videos), and ideally, secure all insurance directly from their own provider or credit card company before arriving at the counter, to mitigate potential pitfalls.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1First, I'd like to say that the associates at the main counter were professional and courteous. However, I booked the car with a package through Expedia, and I will mention that we purchased the car insurance and such through Expedia. When we got to the counter the agent was going over our reservation, or so I thought, but in essence, she sold more insurance to us which I felt was very misleading, especially, since she had our contract/reservation in front of her and knew we had already purchased insurance and some of the extras. In the end, we ended up spending almost $500 more for the car on top of what we paid through Expedia! Felt tricked and misled. Another problem came with picking up the car and the car itself. The counter agent signed us up with a Kia Soul, which is what we wanted. When we got to the lot, a Kia wasn't available, which was ok, I can understand possibly not having what we wanted. The associate gave us the option of a Nissan Altima and a Toyota. We chose the Altima. She simply said, "keys are in the car," and walked off. We checked the car without the associate and saw many dings, scratches, etc... - these were not noted by the associate. The front grill was also cracked. When we got to Iowa, we noticed a flap in the tire, and the Tennessee tag was EXPIRED - 12/24! 7 months old! I called the Budget number- which is NOT user friendly- and finally spoke to a person who told me to take it to a nearby Budget and trade it out. I was not about to take 4 hours out of my vacation to correct their error. I was told to call roadside service if we got stopped. I contacted Expedia. They contacted Budget, and we were told we would get a refund on the car. We did not. We were offered 20% off, but only on the extra insurance purchase, not including what we paid for through Expedia. We received two receipts reflecting the same amount with no adjustment. Now, I have to see if I was charged twice for the extra UNNECESSARY insurance we purchased.Update- they failed to give us the extra 20% off discount promised.
Jul 11, 2025 · Jul-TeeI don’t usually do negative reviews like this but I want to warn you as to why I’ll never rent from this Budget Airport location again. Before I return vehicles that I rent I make sure to return with full tank of gas, and this was what I had done before returning this vehicle. Yet they still charged me a refuel fee! I made the mistake of not reading the reviews before making a reservation to rent here but I do know this will be my last time. As I like to do business with locations of business with integrity, I have learn that this location is in fact NOT a business location of integrity. Budget MSP, you have not earned my trust and have lost me as a future customer.
Mar 16, 2025 · Jordan ManceHad a reservation for a toyota corolla. Lot attendant said, "Pick any car in this line". They had multiple luxury cars including electric cars. Had to flag down an employee who was very helpful but stated, "they keep telling customers to pick a car but not tell them they will be charged extra if it is not what they reserved". She also said the cars are being returned to the wrong spot, making it more confusing. Turned my car in with the keys in the vehicle as instructed but got a notification that my car wasn't returned. Currently dealing with customer service who is not on location and just gave me an "escalation" number for my case. He was rude and acted like my concerns weren't understandable. Customer service obviously outsourced and not helpful, just paid answering machines.
Jul 08, 2025 · Hunter CrossleySketchy sales person. Said I needed to call customer service to extend my reservation when customer service already told me to do it at the counter. Told me to insert my card before telling me the total due and said "I'll be on the tablet" when I asked. Pushes the BS insurance which I get but tried to lie about what my credit card covers (he had no idea what kind of credit card I had at this point). The car wasn't dirty but far from spotless. All around terrible experience. Never going with Budget again.
Jul 08, 2025 · Matthew WieberdinkDO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUDGET. THEY STOLE NEARLY $1000 FROM ME.I rented a car from this Budget back in January that broke down due to a bad battery. Despite being assured over the phone by several different Budget agents that I wouldn't be charged for a problem that I didn't cause, they later charged me a fee of nearly $1000 several weeks later.Thinking it must be fraud, I canceled my credit card and disputed the charge -- only to be told by my bank that it was a legitimate charge from Budget. After reaching out to Budget, they agreed to refund the fee, but the refund never appeared on my card. This led to NUMEROUS calls, emails, and forms that I have had to fill out over the last 3 months trying (unsuccessfully) to get my money back. Each time, I interact with a different customer service person who seems completely unaware of the past interactions I've had with Budget. They are constantly putting me off and giving me the run-around -- blaming my credit card company, telling me I need to give them more information and then mis-reading the documentation I send them, leading to MORE emails and conversations with MORE people who do not know anything about the situation and seem hell-bent on willfully misunderstanding and never giving me my money back. In one of the most recent interactions, a Budget employee asked me for HELP GETTING IN TOUCH WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY -- a completely absurd request that I nevertheless entertained, asking them specifically what type of help they needed, only to be ghosted. This has been the most nightmarish customer service experience of my life. I have wasted dozens of hours on phone calls, emails, and infinite forms, and I have YET to get my money back. I highly recommend you rent your next car from literally anywhere else.
