Budget Car Rental Introduce
For residents of Arizona, particularly those in the East Valley cities like Mesa, finding a reliable and convenient car rental service is often a key part of their travel plans, whether for local errands, family vacations across our beautiful state, or business trips. While major rental car brands offer widespread access, the experience at individual locations can vary significantly. This article provides a comprehensive and factual overview of the Budget Car Rental branch located at 6650 East Superstition Springs Boulevard (at S Power Rd) in Mesa, aiming to help you, as a local Arizonan user, understand what to expect.
Budget Car Rental is a well-known name in the car rental industry, often chosen for its competitive rates and broad selection of vehicles. However, customer experiences can be influenced by various factors, including vehicle maintenance and customer service responsiveness. This piece will delve into the specific details of this Mesa location, exploring its accessibility, the range of services it typically offers, and important points to consider based on recent customer feedback. Our goal is to provide a balanced perspective, allowing you to make an informed decision for your next car rental in Arizona.
The Budget Car Rental branch is situated at 6650 East Superstition Springs Boulevard (at S Power Rd), Mesa, AZ 85206, USA. This location is particularly convenient for residents of Mesa and the surrounding East Valley communities, including Gilbert and Apache Junction. It's nestled within an area that provides easy access to major roadways like US 60 (Superstition Freeway), making it straightforward to reach from various parts of the region. Being located within a hotel (Country Inn & Suites, next to TGI Friday's restaurant, as per Budget's own directions) can offer certain advantages, such as potentially extended hours or the ability to drop off keys at the hotel desk after hours, which can be beneficial for those with early morning departures or late-night returns.
The proximity to the Superstition Springs Center mall also means it's located in a well-established commercial area, surrounded by amenities. This makes it a practical choice for locals who need to pick up or drop off a rental car as part of their daily routine or while running other errands. The "on-site" car parking and returns further add to the convenience, simplifying the overall process compared to locations that might require shuttles to separate car lots. For Arizonans looking for a non-airport rental option within the East Valley, this location offers a localized and accessible solution.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Budget generally offers a wide selection of vehicles to cater to various needs. This typically includes economy and compact cars for fuel efficiency, mid-size and full-size sedans for comfortable daily driving, SUVs (like a Toyota SUV, as mentioned in a review) suitable for families or those needing extra space for Arizona adventures, and potentially minivans or specialty vehicles. The range aims to accommodate different passenger counts, luggage needs, and preferences.
- Flexible Rental Periods: Customers can typically rent vehicles for various durations, from a single day or a weekend getaway to longer-term rentals for several weeks or months, providing flexibility for diverse travel and temporary vehicle needs.
- Online Reservation and Check-in: Budget's online platforms allow customers to book reservations in advance and complete much of the required paperwork digitally. This can significantly reduce wait times at the counter upon pick-up, streamlining the process for busy Arizonans.
- Optional Add-ons: Common add-ons include GPS navigation systems (useful for navigating Arizona's roads), child safety seats, and various protection plans. These options allow customers to customize their rental experience to their specific travel requirements.
- Fastbreak Program: For frequent renters, the Budget Fastbreak program offers expedited service, allowing members to bypass the regular counter lines and often proceed directly to their pre-printed contract and keys.
- After-Hours Return Options: This location generally provides an option for after-hours returns, including a key drop box or the ability to leave keys with the hotel desk (as noted in a positive review). This offers convenience for customers returning vehicles outside standard business hours. However, it's crucial for customers to understand that they remain responsible for the vehicle until the contract is officially closed on the next business day.
- Local Convenience: Located within a hotel at a major intersection, this branch is highly accessible for East Valley residents, offering a nearby alternative to airport rental locations.
- Streamlined Pick-up (when prepared): As one positive review notes, with online pre-fill, the process can be "quick and painless," with customers being "in and out in less than 10 minutes." This highlights the potential for efficient service.
- After-Hours Return Flexibility: The availability of a key drop box or hotel desk key drop provides valuable flexibility for returns outside of standard operating hours, a significant convenience for Arizonans with varying schedules.
- Newer Model Vehicles: One positive customer experience mentioned receiving a "very nice, clean, newer model Toyota SUV," indicating that quality vehicles are part of the fleet.
However, it is crucial for local Arizonan users to be aware of the experiences shared in the provided reviews. One detailed account outlines significant issues, including:
- Lack of Vehicle Inspection: A car released with incorrectly installed TPMS sensors and a subsequent AWD system warning light, indicating potential overlooked safety checks.
- Vehicle Availability Discrepancies: Not receiving the reserved vehicle type (e.g., a Toyota Corolla substituted with a Buick Encore, then a Dodge Charger, then finally the Corolla).
- Breakdown and Roadside Assistance Challenges: A vehicle breakdown mid-trip, with difficulties in communicating with customer service and issues with the tow truck service and subsequent vehicle swaps.
- Billing Discrepancies: Multiple charges for vehicle swaps and additional fees (e.g., towing fee, fuel for a broken-down car) that significantly exceeded the original rental cost.
These points highlight the importance of thoroughly inspecting the vehicle for any existing damage or warning lights before driving off the lot, clarifying all charges and available vehicles at the counter, and understanding the terms and conditions related to breakdowns and exchanges.

For residents across Arizona, and particularly those residing in the Mesa area and the wider East Valley, the Budget Car Rental location at 6650 East Superstition Springs Boulevard offers a mixed yet potentially suitable option for their car rental needs. Its primary advantage lies in its convenient local accessibility. Situated within a hotel and easily reachable from major roadways like US 60, this branch provides a practical alternative to the bustling airport locations. For locals who need a car for a few days, a weekend trip to a nearby Arizona attraction, or as a temporary replacement, the ease of access for pick-up and the flexible after-hours return options can be significant time-savers.
The potential for a "quick and painless" experience, as described in one positive review, where customers can leverage online check-in to be "in and out in less than 10 minutes" with a "nice, clean, newer model Toyota SUV," certainly highlights the streamlined efficiency that Budget aims to provide. This efficiency, combined with the comprehensive range of vehicle types typically available from a large brand like Budget, ensures that most general transportation needs of Arizonans can be met.
However, it's vital for local users to approach their rental with an awareness of the potential issues highlighted by some customer feedback, particularly concerning vehicle condition upon pickup, discrepancies in vehicle availability, and the handling of roadside emergencies and billing. While such experiences can be outliers, they underscore the importance of proactive measures: always inspect the car thoroughly for any warning lights or physical damage before leaving the lot, confirm the exact vehicle type and all associated charges at the counter, and clearly understand the roadside assistance procedures. By being prepared and diligent, Arizonans can still leverage the local convenience and broad fleet options that this Budget Car Rental branch offers, making it a viable choice for their diverse travel and temporary vehicle requirements within our vast and beautiful state.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have rented from Budget multiple times before, but I have to leave my honest review because this absolutely should not have happened. I understand that things do go wrong sometimes, but I can say with almost 100 percent certainty that Budget does not properly inspect their vehicles before transferring them to another customer.I picked up a rental car from this location on 3/13/25, and within minutes of driving it, the tire pressure light came on, telling me to add air. I immediately took it to Discount Tire, where they told me the TPMS sensors in the tires were installed incorrectly—the readings were completely backward. One tire read 70 PSI, another 36, another 10, etc. The staff at Discount Tire managed to fill the tires properly and even mentioned that Budget should never have released a vehicle that wasn’t checked. On top of that, this wasn’t even the car I reserved. I had requested a Toyota Corolla or a similar vehicle, but when I arrived, there were only two cars in the parking lot. One of them was a white Buick Encore, which they gave me. Since I was leaving for California that same day, I had no choice but to take it after they told me that neither this location nor any nearby Budget locations had any other available vehicles.Halfway to California, yet another warning light came on—this time for the all-wheel drive system. Again, this was something that had clearly not been checked before they gave me the car. Then the real nightmare began. The next day, while returning to our hotel, the car abruptly shut down in the middle of an intersection. Every warning light popped up on the dashboard, and the car was completely unresponsive—I couldn’t even turn it off. It wouldn’t move, and nothing worked. To make matters worse, we were nearly hit in the intersection due to the sudden system failure.Thankfully, someone helped push the car into a dark, deserted McDonald’s parking lot. I had my two children with me, one of whom is autistic, and they were both terrified. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere at night, and when I called Budget’s customer service, I could barely understand the representative because he didn’t speak clear English. He just kept repeating that I “couldn’t abandon the vehicle” over and over. They then offered me an Uber voucher to go an hour away to the San Diego airport to pick up another car. There was no way I was going to leave my mother and my children alone in the dark to take an Uber with a stranger to a place I’d never been. After pushing back, Budget finally agreed to send a tow truck and bring me another car. When the tow truck driver called me, he said the only car available was a Dodge Charger, so I had no choice but to take it. As if things couldn’t get worse, the tow truck itself broke down, and the driver had to wait for help before he could even bring us the car.I was already unhappy with the Dodge Charger because it was not what I had originally reserved. I needed a fuel-efficient vehicle since we were driving from Arizona to California. So, we had to go to yet another Budget location to exchange it. Finally, we were able to get the car I originally requested—a Toyota Corolla. Even then, the navigation system barely worked with my phone.Fast forward to this past Thursday when I returned the vehicle. To my surprise, Budget charged my card not once, but three times—for each of the vehicle swaps, which were due to their negligence. On top of that, they charged me a towing fee, which is absolutely insane. They also charged me for the half tank of gas in the car that broke down, even though it completely died and was undriveable. In total, they charged my card nearly $1,800 when my original rental was only supposed to cost $474 for a few days.I will NEVER rent from Budget again. I understand that things happen, but the way this entire situation was handled—the lack of accountability, the extreme inconvenience, and the absurd extra charges—is completely unacceptable. Thanks, Budget, for ruining my entire vacation and ensuring that I will never rent from you again
Mar 21, 2025 · Kileigh AustinSome of these reviews had me scared for my first time renting a car, but it truly couldn't have been more quick and painless. You can fill out most of the paperwork online/in the app beforehand and they simply verify the license and some other info and add a standard CC for a deposit. Was in and out in less than 10 minutes, with a very nice, clean, newer model Toyota SUV. I was able to drop the car off at my destination after hours in their key drop box and the car was checked in first thing the next morning. This location is located in a hotel so I saw that you are also able to drop the keys after hours with the hotel desk. I had a very pleasant experience with this location, couldn't have made my first time renting process easier, and I would rent with this location and with Budget again.
Feb 26, 2025 · Danielle EsplinPlease don’t book with these people. My daughter and her husband booked a rental car ahead on the way to my Daddy’s funeral. My daughter is 35 weeks pregnant and didn’t want any hitches in the trip so she called ahead to make sure she could pay for the car rental with her debit card. They assured her that was not a problem. However, upon arrival at the mesa gateway airport location, the associate informed them they couldn’t pay with a debit card because they have to have credit backing the debit card. So I called and asked to pay with my credit card. They wouldn’t allow this. They left my daughter and her husband stranded at the airport. No other agency had cars available. We had to drive nearly 4 hours one way to pick them up and another nearly 4 hours back to get in time for the funeral for my dad. Please save yourself the trouble and choose another agency. Can I give a negative star rating for their terrible policies??
Feb 27, 2024 · Res winsI would not recommend this rental location (Apache Junction 6650 E Superstition Springs Blvd) at all. The owner (Bob Johnson) convinced me to take an all electric vehicle, with the assurance that I would have no problems finding charging stations during our trip. We almost ran out of charge, but were lucky enough to find a charging station 22 miles (one way) out of our way. When we got the car back into the city where it was rented, there were only four charging stations in the city, and none of them were fast chargers. This means I would have to sit five hours at a charging station, or pay a flat fee to Budget. There was no home charger included with the vehicle. The guy working the counter said there is no way Budget would know if the electric vehicle THEY rent out could be charged loacllly, and admitted he knew the home charger was nowhere in the brand-new vehicle. Then he told me I was out of luck if I wanted to pay the actual charge cost and not the flat rate.He basically said "not our problem we can't support the vehicles we rent out".Horrible service.
Mar 05, 2024 · Rob GRented a car that was at 15% charge when I picked up. Had to spend 90 minutes charging before I could go anywhere.
