When it comes to exploring our vast and diverse state, from the vibrant urban centers to the serene natural landscapes, having a reliable and convenient car rental option is paramount. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway to Napa Valley, a business trip down to Silicon Valley, or simply need a temporary vehicle for navigating San Francisco, Budget Car Rental on Post Street offers a local solution. This article will provide a detailed and factual overview of this Budget location, highlighting its services, features, and why it can be a suitable choice for locals in California.
Budget Car Rental is strategically located at 675 Post Street, nestled between Jones Street and Taylor Street, in the heart of San Francisco, CA 94109, USA. This highly accessible address places it squarely within the bustling Union Square district, a prime area renowned for its world-class shopping, diverse dining options, and cultural attractions. For locals, this central location offers unparalleled convenience, allowing for quick and easy pick-ups and drop-offs without the need to commute to more distant airport facilities.
Accessibility to this Budget branch is excellent. It's well-served by San Francisco’s comprehensive public transportation network, including numerous MUNI bus routes and the iconic cable cars that operate throughout downtown. For those driving to the location, Post Street is easily reachable from major city arteries, though as with any central San Francisco spot, it’s advisable to factor in potential urban traffic. The ability to seamlessly transition from public transport or walking to picking up your rental car makes this location a practical choice for residents who value efficiency and reduced travel time. This ease of access ensures that you can quickly get on the road to embark on your Californian adventures, whether within the city or beyond.
Budget Car Rental, as a globally recognized brand, provides a wide array of services designed to meet the varying transportation needs of its customers. At the San Francisco Post Street location, you can typically expect the following offerings:
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Budget generally offers a broad selection of vehicles to suit different travel requirements and budgets. This can include economy and compact cars for efficient city driving, mid-size and full-size sedans for comfortable journeys, SUVs for families or those needing extra space, and even vans for larger groups. This location has also been noted for its inclusion of electric vehicles (EVs) like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, catering to the growing interest in sustainable driving.
- Flexible Rental Periods: Whether you need a car for just a day, a weekend, a week, or even a month or more, Budget offers flexible rental durations. This caters to both short-term errands and extended travel plans across California, providing solutions for various personal and business needs.
- Optional Add-ons: To enhance your rental experience, customers can typically opt for various extras. These often include GPS navigation systems to help you navigate unfamiliar routes, child safety seats for families traveling with young children, and satellite radio for entertainment.
- eToll Service: As mentioned by a customer, Budget provides an eToll service for cashless toll roads, which is particularly useful in areas like the Bay Area with numerous toll bridges. While it's important to understand the associated daily fees and how it works (which a customer noted was not explicitly introduced), this service can simplify toll payments for drivers unfamiliar with local tolling systems. Budget's eToll service incurs a convenience fee for each day a toll is incurred, up to a maximum per rental period, plus the cost of the tolls themselves.
- Competitive Pricing: Budget aims to offer competitive rates, making car rental accessible for a range of budgets. Online booking often allows for comparing prices and securing good deals, especially when booked in advance.
The Budget Car Rental location on Post Street in San Francisco offers several key features and highlights that shape the overall customer experience, particularly for locals navigating the Californian landscape.
- Clean and Well-Equipped Cars: One positive customer review highlighted receiving a "clean and well equipped car" that included "GPS and Android Auto/Apple Carplay." This indicates a commitment to providing modern vehicles with useful technology, enhancing the driving experience.
- Friendly and Fast Staff: A customer praised the staff for being "friendly and very fast to hand over the car," suggesting that, under optimal circumstances, the pick-up process can be efficient and pleasant, minimizing wait times.
- Availability of Electric Vehicles (EVs): The presence of EVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E in their fleet is a significant highlight, reflecting the growing trend towards sustainable transportation in California. For locals interested in trying an EV or reducing their carbon footprint, this offers a valuable option.
- Potential for Vehicle Upgrades: While not always intentional, a customer noted being given an EV (Ford Mustang Mach-E) even when a petrol car was booked. This suggests a willingness to provide alternative vehicles, which can sometimes result in an upgrade, though it also points to potential challenges with managing vehicle type preferences.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge potential drawbacks highlighted by customer experiences, especially regarding EV rentals:
- EV Charge Level Upon Pickup: A significant concern raised was receiving an EV with a very low battery charge (e.g., 30% for a Mustang Mach-E), leading to immediate hassle of finding a fast charger, waiting for availability, and charging the vehicle. This can severely impact travel plans, especially for those unfamiliar with EV charging infrastructure or with limited time. This underscores the need for Budget to ensure EVs are adequately charged before customer pickup.
- Lack of EV Introduction/Guidance: Customers expressed frustration over no "intro to the car" or guidance on using eToll, particularly for those new to EVs and their unique charging requirements. This lack of instruction can lead to confusion and inconvenience, especially when navigating complex charging networks.
- Potential for Uncommunicated Vehicle Type Changes: The experience of booking a petrol car and receiving an EV without prior notification or clear communication upon arrival is a recurring issue, indicating a need for improved transparency in the booking and handover process.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Picked up the car at 8am on the 26 Dec and was pleasantly happy with the clean and well equipped car. The car comes with GPS and Android Auto/Apple Carplay. The staff was friendly and very fast to hand over the car. Only issue is there is no intro to the car and the use of eToll which I have to figured it out myself.
Jan 15, 2024 · paosweeLike many have said, when we got here they told us there were only EVs available even though I booked a petrol car. We were given a Ford Mustang Mach E and told it had 40% battery. It actually only had 30% so the range was only 60 miles. This ruined our afternoon as we had to spend time looking for a fast charger in SF, wait an hour for one to become available, and then another 30 minutes while it charged to 85% so we could leave the city and drive to Napa. We then got stuck in commuter traffic trying to get out of SF. We only had Friday afternoon and Saturday in Napa as we were flying back to Australia on Saturday night, so we ended up losing all of Friday due to the car needing to be charged upon pickup. It's ridiculous that you book a petrol car and then end up with an EV which is so much hassle if you've never driven one before and have no experience navigating the confusing charging network, speeds, and connectors. If there wasn't a fast charger available eventually we would have been stuck for hours in the city. If you're going to have EVs then you need to charge them before giving them to customers! What kind of rental car company rents cars out with 60 miles of range?
Apr 26, 2025 · Benjamin HumphreyWhen I went to pick up the car I reserved I was told only electric vehicles were available. I specifically reserved a regular gas powered mid-size sedan, like Toyota Camry, but nothing was available at the pick up location. My only choices were a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or a Ford Mustang Mach E. I asked the person at the counter if any other locations had gas cars and without checking he said no. He asked where I was driving to so I told him and he assured me that the 250 mile range of the vehicle would be more than enough. He only took into account the drive to my destination and back but did not take into account the driving I would be doing at my destination over a couple of days. I was forced to accept the EV and given no other options. I asked if there were any other vehicles available even a different class like SUV, van, or truck and they told me no. I only have 2 choices, Ioniq 5 or Mach E. They were not apologetic at all that the type of vehicle I reserved well in advanced was not available and instead assured me that I would love the EV so much when I got home I would want to buy one. When I got home I did not buy a new Ford Mustang Mach E. They acted more like an EV salesperson than someone wanting to help me get the rental car that I reserved and wanted. We drove well over the 250 mile range and had to charge the car. When I got to our destination I had to make arrangements with our hotel to use their EV charger so that we could charge the car overnight so that we would have enough charge to drive back to the airport for our early morning flight.
Feb 22, 2025 · Jay CodichiniOverall the staff and cars are nice however this the second time they only had EV available AND it was only 20% charged so we had modify all our plans to fit in charging. This pretty annoying and I except better from this company. especially as a corporate client.
Apr 26, 2025 · Erin DoughertyDO NOT GO HERE! I rented a car from this place and returned the car on the date and time. When I dropped off the car the guy said that they will send me the receipt later that day and never did. 10 days go by and then I am charged an extra $1500 dollars, I called customer service to get this resolved and they said that I returned the car 9 days late at a different location, which was not true. I sent them my uber receipt showing that I did drop the car off on the correct date and they said they would refund my amount. This would have been fine but now I have been battling them for 17 days to give me the correct amount of money back. They owe me almost $900 and have provided very little information on how it is going and when I should get my money back. I have now had to file a complaint with the BBB and will most likely take legal action since now they are trying to only give me 3/4 of what is still owed to me!All in all the mistake happened which was annoying but what was the most annoying part was the extremely poor customer service and customer support they give! They could care less about their customers! I will never be renting from budget ever again!!! If I could give them a 0 I would
