Firstly, the strategic location within the consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility near LAX is a major advantage for locals. Instead of driving to various, potentially scattered rental agency offices, residents can access a centralized hub that is well-connected by major freeways (like the 405) and surface streets. This makes picking up or dropping off a rental car significantly more convenient, whether you're coming from the San Fernando Valley, the South Bay, or even Orange County. For those whose personal vehicles are undergoing maintenance, or for spontaneous weekend trips across the state, the accessibility of Budget at LAX reduces travel time and logistical headaches.
Secondly, Budget's reputation for providing a wide range of vehicle classes at competitive prices is highly appealing to local users. Californians have diverse transportation needs, from fuel-efficient compacts for city commutes to spacious SUVs for family road trips to national parks or minivans for group outings. Budget's fleet aims to cater to these varied requirements, offering options that align with different budgets and travel styles. While occasional vehicle conditions or availability issues can arise, the sheer breadth of options means that locals can generally find a vehicle that fits their immediate needs.
Furthermore, the 24/7 operation of the LAX location provides unparalleled flexibility for locals with unpredictable schedules. Whether you need to pick up a car very late at night or return it before dawn, the round-the-clock service ensures that your rental experience can align with your personal timetable, a crucial factor in a city that truly never sleeps. This flexibility is particularly valuable for last-minute travel plans or unexpected situations where a vehicle is needed urgently.
While some customer experiences highlight areas for improvement, such as wait times or specific vehicle conditions, Budget Car Rental at LAX remains a widely accessible and generally economical choice. For Californians seeking a straightforward car rental solution with a broad selection of vehicles and convenient airport access, Budget offers a fundamental service that supports the dynamic lifestyle of the region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I reserved my rental car through Alaska Airlines website. When I got to the vehicle I noted damages. I told an attended before leaving. They stated they do no write the damage up anymore but have a 360 camera scanning the vehicle as I left and would get scanned again as I returned. The Dodge Hornet also only had the ability place a car seat behind the drivers seat. Other than the car not looking that great with the damage, the interior was clean but smelled like armpit body odor when the AC was on.Saturday April 5th, I planned on picking up family for an event that was happening that evening. Only to find out when they got inside the rear passenger seat belt was twisted behind the plastic panel and did not function properly. I could not transport them safely due to the seat belt and they had to take a ride share to the event.I called the main budget line, I asked if they would come with a vehicle to swap, they said no they didn't do that. They asked me to call around to other locations close by to drive to their location for a swap. 2 closest locations could not accommodate a swap either because they were not a true budget location (contractor type) and only accepted their own vehicles or they didn't have anything available. When I called John Wayne Budget I was redirected back to the main line and tree menu unable to reach anyone at John Wayne.John Wayne was the furthest location and recommended by the other locations I called but couldn't reach anyone to verify they could accept a swap before driving 45 minutes with traffic both ways.Frustrated, I gave up and dealt with customer service again who said they would only comp a future rental with budget. I explained my situation again and asked if more could be done or to please let me plead my case to a supervisor as that was unacceptable. Budget provided me with an unsafe vehicle without proper safety features. I never did talk to a supervisor but the customer service rep provided me a case number and said they would waive the rental fee.Additionally, when I returned the vehicle. I had stopped at a gas station less than a block away from the Rental Garage return for LAX to top off. The Budget receipt paperwork stating the tank was 9/11 gallons. Whatever system is used to check in did not work and on the rental receipt was charged almost $20 for 2 gallons of gas. I have receipts and documents showing each time I filled up and that the vehicle was full upon drop off.Budget deserves a 1 star review based on my experience, I will not hesitate with my next rental to go with a more expensive competitor with better customer service and safer vehicles.
Apr 09, 2025 · Max CoronaI booked a car last minute with Budget at LAX, and while the overall experience was decent, there were some major inconveniences. When I arrived, there were about 50 people ahead of me, but only four employees working the counter. The wait time was nearly an hour before I was helped, which was frustrating.Once I finally got to the counter, the process of picking up my car was smooth. They upgraded me to a small SUV since they were out of compact cars, which seems to happen often—I’ve had this experience with other rental companies as well. While the upgrade was nice, I would have preferred the compact car I originally booked. One inconvenience was that they don’t accept Apple Pay. Since I had lost my credit card, I had to use my ATM card instead, which wasn’t ideal.Aside from the long wait and payment issue, the rest of the process was easy. If they could improve the check-in experience and offer more payment options, it would be a much better experience overall.
Feb 23, 2025 · Lydia ChuHad a reservation after a flight with a 5 member family, 2 infants, and a service dog. After the 1 hour I took to get to the counter (can't be helped) somehow the car still wasn't ready. When I asked the lady at the counter if there was a inconvenience compensation she stated "everyone is waiting" I told her that's not a great reason and does not justify customers with reservations having to wait. Especially if that same company charges you a late fee if you are late. She eventually just stopped talking to me. Also, this same rental company charged us for a rental cancellation fee for less than 24 hours cancelation (18 hours) and can't even get our car ready on time. 🤣Update: coming up on 2 hours of waiting!?!
Jul 13, 2025 · Rage RacerStay away! Sneakily charged me for insurance after I explained that I did not want extra coverage. They also did not input that I returned the vehicle until 5 days after I dropped off. Calling customer service was useless until I complained to Better Business Bureau, and was promptly refunded the entire amount they scammed me for. Flight was delayed and came in late; getting a shuttle bus at 3am was a bit of a nightmare.Only positive was the vehicle itself; the Wrangler I rented was nice and clean. If you do rent here, please take time stamped photos and double check everything they make you sign at the counter.
Jun 07, 2025 · Owen LeeOur experience with Budget Car Rental was disappointing. First, we waited over 20 minutes at the terminal for the shuttle, while other companies’ shuttles passed by 3-4 times in the same period. Once we arrived at the Budget location, we encountered an incredibly long line—more than 55 people ahead of us. Even after 40+ minutes of waiting, we were still in line. Each agent seemed to take around 10 minutes per customer, which made the process feel painfully slow.Overall, the organization and efficiency were lacking, making this a frustrating start to our rental process. Hopefully, the car itself will make up for this poor experience.
