Dollar Car Rental - Boston Logan International Airport Introduce
For residents of Massachusetts planning a trip out of state, or for those returning home to the Bay State and needing immediate ground transportation, car rental services at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are a common necessity. Dollar Car Rental, located conveniently at BOS, is one of the many options available for travelers. While it aims to provide affordable and accessible vehicle solutions, it's crucial for Massachusetts locals to understand the full picture of the experience, balancing potential cost savings with insights from other local users. This article will provide a factual and informative overview of Dollar Car Rental at Boston Logan, covering its location, services, and key considerations to help you make an informed decision for your next car rental need in Massachusetts.
Dollar Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport is situated at 156 Tomahawk Dr, East Boston, MA 02128, USA. This address places it within the consolidated Rental Car Center (RCC) at BOS, which houses multiple car rental agencies. For travelers arriving at Logan, accessing the RCC is relatively straightforward. Upon exiting the terminal baggage claim, passengers are directed to dedicated shuttle bus stops. These blue and white shuttle buses provide continuous service, transporting customers directly to the Rental Car Center.
Once at the RCC, the Dollar counter is typically located on the first floor. This centralized system, common at major airports, simplifies the process of finding your rental company. While the shuttle ride adds a small step to the process compared to in-terminal pickups, it's designed for efficiency, moving large volumes of travelers quickly. The East Boston location of the airport itself offers excellent road access to major highways, making it convenient to connect to downtown Boston, the North Shore, the South Shore, and routes leading out of Massachusetts. The convenience of an airport location is undeniable for many Massachusetts travelers, offering 24/7 operations to accommodate various flight schedules.
Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Dollar Car Rental typically offers a wide array of vehicle classes to suit various travel needs and budgets. This includes economy cars for fuel efficiency, compact and mid-size sedans for general travel, full-size cars for more comfort, SUVs of various sizes for families or those needing extra space, minivans for larger groups, and sometimes even specialty vehicles like convertibles or luxury cars. They also increasingly offer electric vehicles (EVs) like the Polestar 2 or Chevrolet Bolt.
Flexible Rental Durations: Customers can typically rent vehicles for short periods, such as a day or a weekend, or opt for longer-term rentals extending to a week or more, providing flexibility for different trip lengths.
Optional Add-ons and Protections: To enhance the rental experience and provide peace of mind, Dollar offers various optional additions. These usually include GPS navigation systems, child safety seats, and various insurance/protection plans like Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP).
Prepaid Fuel Options: Like most major rental companies, Dollar provides options for managing fuel. Customers can choose to pre-purchase a full tank of gas, refuel the vehicle themselves before return, or allow Dollar to refuel it (which may incur a service charge in addition to the fuel cost). For EVs, customers should inquire about charging policies, as some rental companies (like Dollar in one review) may not fully charge EVs prior to pickup.
Online and App-Based Reservations: Dollar allows customers to make and manage reservations through their website and mobile app, aiming to streamline the booking and check-in process, including features like "skip the line" (though customer experiences vary on its effectiveness).
Competitive Pricing (Often): Dollar is generally positioned as a budget-friendly option within the Hertz family of brands, aiming to offer competitive rates for travelers. This can be a significant draw for cost-conscious Massachusetts residents.
Airport Convenience: Being located at Boston Logan International Airport is a major advantage for travelers flying in or out of Massachusetts, offering immediate access to transportation upon arrival or seamless drop-off before departure. The 24/7 operating hours of the RCC are also a significant benefit.
Variety of Vehicles, Including EVs: The inclusion of electric vehicles like the Polestar 2 in their fleet (as mentioned in a review) is a notable feature, allowing customers to experience electric driving and potentially benefit from fuel savings. However, the charge level and default settings should be verified upon pickup.
Challenges with Wait Times: A recurring theme in customer reviews is the issue of long wait times, particularly at the counter, even with "skip the line" initiatives. This suggests that during peak travel periods (like graduations, as one review mentioned), the staffing levels might struggle to keep up with demand, leading to significant delays.
Inconsistent Customer Service and Vehicle Prep: Reviews indicate variability in customer service and vehicle readiness. Issues such as uncharged EVs, keys not being in the car, or miscommunications about vehicle availability point to inconsistencies that can impact the customer experience negatively. This highlights the importance of thorough checks upon pickup.
Potential for Billing Discrepancies: Concerns about "non-refundable deposit," "scammed me by making me pay for damages I did not cause," and issues with "hidden charges" or "fuel charges even though we returned the car with a full tank" suggest that customers need to be extremely vigilant when reviewing their contracts and documenting vehicle condition. Taking extensive photos or videos of the car before and after rental is highly advisable.

For Massachusetts residents traveling to or from Boston Logan International Airport, Dollar Car Rental offers a fundamental car rental service located conveniently within the airport's consolidated Rental Car Center. Its primary suitability lies in its direct accessibility for air travelers, its usually competitive pricing, and its wide variety of vehicle options, including electric cars, catering to diverse needs and preferences once you're on the ground in the Bay State. The 24/7 operation hours of the RCC are a definite plus for those with early morning departures or late-night arrivals.
However, it's crucial for locals to approach their rental with Dollar at BOS with a keen awareness of potential challenges. While the price point can be attractive, be prepared for possible longer wait times, especially during peak travel periods like graduations or holidays, and ensure you have ample time for the pick-up process. Most importantly, thoroughly inspect your vehicle before leaving the lot, documenting any existing damage with photos or videos, and confirm all vehicle settings (like headlight auto-on or EV charge levels) to avoid issues upon return. Review your contract diligently for any unexpected charges. By taking these proactive steps, Massachusetts residents can leverage Dollar's accessible airport location and varied fleet for their travel needs, navigating any potential pitfalls to secure their transportation from Boston Logan International Airport.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Worst rental experience I have ever had. They had literally two employees working against a crowd of dozens of travelers. Eventually, a third employee came up. The "skip the line" thing is BS. Went down to the garage to check and was told that we had to get in line. Spent two entire hours in line and didn't even get a car. Checked with another company that had no line and they had cars available. Rented with Hertz (who actually owns Dollar Rental) and got a car within minutes. Don't know if it was because of the graduations happening that weekend, but Dollar was wholly unprepared for the volume of travelers needing cars. I checked later, after we finally made it somewhere to rest from the long day of traveling, and even hours later, the website told me my care was not ready. I paid a non-refundable deposit that I am trying to get back because this whole experience was ridiculous. These are pictures I took of the line as I walked away with my rental from a different desk.
May 07, 2025 · Tiffany WhatzitooyahWorst experience. Though giving a 5 stars and giving my constructive feedback.what was terrible;1. The person who assigned us the car, didn't give the key or place the key tag in the car. We went out of the gate and discovered it. Put the car and family at risk and ran to get the tag from the manager. It could have been worse2. They didn't charge our EV at all and had only 50% charge. The default configuration is set to the worst possible scenario. Head light was off and not on auto. AC was set to max and will drain the battery. Charge the car to 90%. Reset to factory settings at the beginning of each rental.Positives; We got a Polestar 2 car, which was great in spite the extra charging time. Superior to any gas car.
May 26, 2025 · Karthik Sankar (K Sankar)I overlooked the bad reviews... don't be like me..I didn't notice all the bad reviews until a few hours before we headed to pick up our rental. I got nervous, but then decided that it was too late to change and I assumed the negative reviews were just people being dramatic... sorry, people :/We had no issues at all with the online rental process or waiting for the car in line, or the car itself. Everything was fine. I was ready to come leave a positive review to show some love. But then a day or so after i returned the car i received a bill for over $200 of "optional" charges/coverage that I had supposedly opted into. I didn't knowingly opt into any of these. I even stated at the counter before picking up the rental that i didn't want any of the extras... But here I am with a $240 bill that was automatically charged to my card and Dollar customer service is no where to be found.Buyer beware - know that the base rate you paid online to reserve your car will double if they are able to sneak in these "optional" up-charges.
May 21, 2025 · Adam WybleExtremely disappointing experience. When I picked up the car, I clearly stated that I would be returning it with a full tank of gas. Despite doing exactly that, I was still charged a $50 fuel fee. Upon noticing the charge, I returned to the counter, only to be told that I had to go to Hertz customer service because it wasn’t something the counter could resolve. The customer service was unhelpful and showed no empathy. Fortunately, when I went to the Hertz customer service desk at the pickup center, the representative who had inspected my car upon return was present and immediately confirmed that the tank was full. I also provided my fuel receipt, and the refund was issued on the spot. The car was in poor condition, with a faulty windshield that became extremely blurry while driving in the rain, making visibility difficult and unsafe.
Jun 15, 2025 · Charles LiuRun away from this company the steal money and put unauthorized charges on your card. Their customer service team absolutely sucks. I had to contact the attorney generals office because their customer service department is absolutely terrible. Hertz, enterprise, budget is where I will refer people to not dollar. They have done this to multiple other people/customers. THEY ARE A SHADY BUSINESS. If you want you money to be stolen then dollar is the way to go but if you want a trustworthy rental company go literally anywhere else but dollar
