Dollar Car Rental is a well-known name in the car rental industry, recognized for its focus on providing affordable and straightforward rental experiences. As an airport-based location, the Dollar branch at 3311 Airport Rd in Allentown primarily caters to air travelers but also serves the local community that values the accessibility and extensive fleet typically found at airport facilities. While customer experiences can sometimes vary, as with any high-volume service provider, understanding the offerings and specific operational aspects of this particular location is crucial. This article delves into the services, accessibility, and unique considerations of renting from Dollar Car Rental at Lehigh Valley International Airport, drawing on publicly available information and real customer feedback to offer a balanced perspective for Pennsylvania residents.
Dollar Car Rental is conveniently located at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), specifically at 3311 Airport Rd, Allentown, PA 18109, USA. This prime location directly within or immediately adjacent to the airport terminal makes it exceptionally accessible for travelers flying into or out of ABE, as well as for local residents in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, and other parts of the Lehigh Valley.
Being an airport car rental agency, the accessibility is designed for maximum convenience for air passengers. Upon arrival at ABE, customers can typically follow signs directly to the car rental counters, which are often located within the terminal or a short, easily navigable walk away. For locals driving to pick up a rental, the airport is well-connected via major roads in the Lehigh Valley, including Route 22, Route 378, and other arterial routes. This straightforward access eliminates the need to navigate complex city streets or travel long distances to reach a rental office, making it a practical choice for Pennsylvania residents who prioritize efficiency and ease of access for their car rental needs.
Dollar Car Rental at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) provides a range of car rental services designed to accommodate various travel preferences and budgets.
Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Dollar offers a variety of car categories to choose from. This typically includes fuel-efficient economy and compact cars (like Chevrolet Spark, Nissan Versa Note), comfortable mid-size and full-size sedans (such as Toyota Corolla, Nissan Altima, Chevrolet Malibu), and larger vehicles like SUVs (e.g., Jeep Compass, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe) and minivans (like Chrysler Pacifica) for families or groups. They also may offer specialized vehicles such as pickup trucks.
Flexible Rental Durations: Customers can book vehicles for daily, weekly, or longer-term rentals, catering to short trips, extended vacations, or temporary transportation needs while a personal vehicle is unavailable.
Manager's Special: This option, which provides a vehicle chosen by the rental company at a potentially lower rate, is often available. However, it's worth noting customer feedback regarding the specific vehicle type provided, as seen in the reviews, particularly concerning electric vehicles if not explicitly requested or understood.
Protection Options: Standard car rental protection options are typically available, including Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) to limit financial responsibility for vehicle damage, and other coverages such as Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and roadside assistance. These options are designed to provide peace of mind during the rental period.
Online Check-in and Express Service: Like many major rental companies, Dollar often offers options for online check-in or membership programs (e.g., Dollar Express Rewards) that can expedite the pick-up process, potentially allowing customers to skip the counter at select locations.
Debit Card Rentals: Dollar generally accepts debit cards for rentals, though specific requirements and holds may apply, including credit checks and the need for proof of travel and multiple forms of ID. An incidental hold on funds is also typically placed at pick-up.
Dollar Car Rental at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) has several features that shape the customer experience, alongside some points that prospective renters should be aware of.
Airport Convenience: The primary highlight is its location directly at ABE, offering unparalleled convenience for air travelers. This allows for quick and easy transitions from plane to rental car, ideal for those flying into or out of the Lehigh Valley.
Competitive Pricing: Dollar is often known for offering competitive and affordable rates, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and locals seeking value in their car rental.
Wide Range of Vehicles: The availability of various car classes, from economy to SUVs and minivans, caters to diverse travel needs, whether for solo trips, family vacations, or business travel.
Customer Service Interactions: Reviews indicate a mixed experience with customer service. While one customer praised the "very nice" counter lady, another experienced "attitude" and unresponsiveness from roadside assistance and corporate when dealing with vehicle issues. This suggests that while individual interactions can be positive, resolving complex issues might require persistence.
Potential for "Bait and Switch" (as per review): One significant customer concern highlighted involved a "Manager Special" resulting in an electric car being provided without adequate explanation or suitability for the customer's travel plans and local charging infrastructure. This points to a potential area where communication and transparency about vehicle assignments, especially for non-gasoline vehicles, could be improved.
Vehicle Reliability (as per reviews): While one customer received a "new sedan" that initially drove well, a subsequent battery/key fob issue caused significant inconvenience. This indicates that while cars are generally provided in good condition, unforeseen mechanical or key-related issues can occur, and the responsiveness of roadside assistance is crucial.

For residents of Pennsylvania, particularly those in the Lehigh Valley area, Dollar Car Rental at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) offers a suitable option for their car rental needs, especially when convenience and competitive pricing are key considerations. Its primary advantage for locals is its location directly at ABE. This means easy access for those flying in or out of the region, or for locals who prefer the accessibility of an airport rental facility over a downtown branch, avoiding extra travel time and potential parking hassles.
The availability of a diverse fleet, from economical cars to larger SUVs and minivans, ensures that Dollar can cater to a wide range of specific travel requirements, whether for a solo business trip, a family vacation starting from ABE, or a temporary replacement vehicle. For budget-conscious Pennsylvanians, Dollar's reputation for offering affordable rates can be a significant draw, allowing them to manage their travel expenses more effectively.
However, local users should also be aware of the experiences highlighted in customer reviews. While the convenience and initial vehicle quality can be positive, specific offerings like the "Manager Special" involving electric vehicles, and the responsiveness of customer service for unexpected issues (like a dead key fob), are points to consider. For locals, this underscores the importance of clear communication at the counter, asking direct questions about vehicle type, charging requirements for EVs, and understanding roadside assistance protocols. Despite these potential challenges, the fundamental benefits of an airport location and typically competitive pricing make Dollar Car Rental at ABE a viable option. For Pennsylvanians prioritizing quick airport access and value, and who are prepared to confirm vehicle specifics upon pickup, Dollar can serve as a convenient gateway to their travels within and beyond the Lehigh Valley.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1DO NOT DO MANAGER SPECIAL they will bait and switch. They stuck with an electric car said it can be charged at home-sure if you have more hours to charge it than drive it. None of that was explained despite my hesitance to accept an electric car and admitting I knew nothing about them. This area is not good to find rapid charging stations. I could not even use it for the entirety of my rental and will likely be charged the top off the electric bc the rapid charging station is more that 10 miles away and only charged to 80%. Multiple calls offered nothing but attitude and to tell me to call road side assistance, not sure what that would do but they didn’t pick up my 5 calls anyway. A call to corporate offered nothing and expressing my frustration when dropping off the car offered even less. Hertz is also in my list over issues when I was renting in Puerto Rico, still have unresolved issues with them!
Apr 22, 2025 · Monica SamsonI rented a car from Dollar on May 20th. The lady at the counter was very nice and gave me a new sedan. I drive it to our farm 30 miles away all good. However when I went to use it for a quick trip into Philadelphia it appeared the battery was dead. No time to jump it so called Lyft. On Sunday May 25th it was time to catch my flight and return car. After many failed attempts to jump start the battery called Dollar Roadside Assistance. She was able to see there was nothing wrong with the battery but instead it was a dead FOB Key. Instructed me to hold key on starter & not to stop for gas or anything until I dropped it off! One start only & already late for flight. Then to add insult to injury the lady at the counter charged me an additional $72.03 for a car I could use. Hopefully there will be a voucher for another car or I will contest charges on my credit card
Jun 03, 2025 · Liz HarveyWorst experience I’ve had. Short summary was given an electric vehicle at 43% at EWR airport. The receipt given to me said the vehicle was at 100%. Integrity issue. Then of course the vehicle battery gets low and i need to charge it the same day i get it from airport. After 13 hours straight charging the car charged maybe 10% so for a 7 day rental i would have to charge my car for 2 days straight just to even get decent use of the vehicle. I call customer service and I’m told on the phone i can switch the car out for no additional fees. I then go to switch my car at ABE airport and am told there will be no additional fees. I drop the car off and after agreeing to an estimated $455. I was charged $844 to include an inter city fee of $300. Dollar car rental lacks customer service and integrity. It would have been perfectly acceptable to tell me if i rented another car i would be charged double the fee. If that is your policy it is your policy and although i think it’s unreasonable it is reality. However, to lie over the phone and then to my face and ultimately charge me double because i had an issue during the rental is completely unacceptable to do to anybody under any circumstance. Will never be returning and have no received any emails back based on my complaints.
Nov 05, 2024 · Sean ReifelSo a government issued ID machine was installed I guess to combat fraud or what ever the case may be. I’m assuming it’s the same ones they use at dispensaries. Anyways I had to cancel my reservation because my ID wouldn’t go through. How convenient to not accept a passport which would’ve been another valid form IDENTIFICATION ….. so I had to book with another company. Thank you very much for the inconvenience. DISCLAIMER: it shouldn’t matter if reservations were directly BOOKED with company or a third party. If DOLLAR,THIFTY, Or HERTZ can’t accommodate customers who book three those sites DON’T PARTNER WITH THEM!
Dec 13, 2024 · Shayna BellI had a bad experience with my car rental on 4/4/2025.when I pick up the car there was a bad smell inside.I didn't have time to deal with it,so I thought leaving the windows open will help but it didnt.I took the car and then notice nobody from the car rental inspect it.I drove like 15 miles to my location.the next day noticed a nail in the passenger side back tire.there was no low pressure alarm.I took the car back to let them know and the costumer service was horrible, looks like they need to be trained on how to deal with costumers.they didn't check the car and charged me $155.00 for a new tire.
