For residents of Florida, and indeed anyone planning to visit our beautiful state, securing a reliable and transparent car rental is a fundamental part of a smooth travel experience. The appeal of "economy" in a rental car company's name often suggests affordability, which can be tempting. However, understanding the actual customer experience and potential pitfalls is paramount before making a commitment. This article is specifically crafted for local users in Florida to provide a factual and candid overview of Economicars, located in Miami. We will delve into their location, typical services, and, most importantly, highlight the severe concerns raised by multiple real customers, offering a clear warning about what to expect.
Economicars presents itself as a car rental service, presumably offering various vehicles at competitive rates. Like many independent rental agencies, they aim to attract customers looking for budget-friendly options for their travel within Florida, whether it's for a short trip around Miami or a longer journey to other parts of the state. However, the true value of an "economic" rental is quickly eroded if hidden fees, poor service, and unresolved issues become part of the package. It's not just about the initial price; it's about the total cost and the overall experience, which includes reliable customer support and adherence to contractual agreements.
The information provided through customer reviews paints a stark picture that every potential renter in Florida should be aware of. While car rentals are a necessity for many, choosing the right provider can save you from significant stress, financial loss, and wasted time. This overview will lay bare the reported practices of Economicars, focusing on recurring themes such as unexpected charges, issues with SunPass deposits, and difficulties with communication and car returns. Our aim is to empower you with information to avoid potentially negative encounters and encourage you to prioritize reputable companies for your transportation needs in Florida.
Economicars is located at 3326 NW S River Dr, Miami, FL 33142, USA. This address places them in Miami, within a commercial or industrial area often utilized by car rental agencies that operate off-airport. While Miami International Airport (MIA) is a major hub, this specific address indicates that Economicars is not directly within the airport's main Rental Car Center. This typically means that customers would need to arrange for transportation, such as a shuttle service, to reach their office from the airport terminals. The ease of finding and accessing this location, particularly for those unfamiliar with the Miami area, can significantly impact the start of your rental experience.
For locals, navigating to 3326 NW S River Dr by personal vehicle might be straightforward depending on their starting point in Miami. However, if relying on public transport or ride-sharing services from MIA, it's crucial to confirm the exact pick-up procedures and potential wait times for their shuttle, if one is provided. Customer reviews suggest significant issues with accessibility and timely service upon arrival, indicating that despite a physical address in Miami, the practical convenience of reaching and dealing with Economicars might be compromised. This off-airport location and reported operational issues should be a key consideration for anyone in Florida planning their trip.
Based on the provided customer feedback, Economicars likely offers the following services, though the execution and transparency of these services are severely questioned:
- Vehicle Rentals: Providing cars for rent, though the condition of these vehicles is not explicitly praised, and operational issues are noted.
- SunPass/Toll Management: Offering a system for managing tolls on Florida's toll roads, often involving a deposit. However, customer complaints detail significant issues with the refund of these deposits and claims of usage despite customer denials.
- Contractual Agreements: Entering into rental contracts with customers, specifying terms like return times. However, customers report discrepancies between signed contracts and actual company actions/claims.
- Customer Communication: Providing contact numbers (phone, mobile) for customer inquiries and support. However, customers report being blocked and ignored when attempting to resolve issues.
The customer reviews reveal highly problematic "features" and "highlights" (or rather, lowlights) of Economicars' operations:
- Unreturned SunPass Deposits: This is the most prevalent and severe complaint. Customers report not receiving their SunPass deposits ($150 to $300, or even an initial request for $700) back, sometimes for months, despite claims of not using toll roads or declining the service. The company allegedly provides no proof of SunPass usage when challenged.
- Drastically Increased Rental Costs: Initial rental quotes (e.g., $25 for two days) are reported to balloon significantly upon pickup (to almost $250) due to hidden fees, making the initial "too good to be true" price misleading.
- Lack of Transparency and Hidden Fees: Customers report unexpected charges, including "unspecified taxes" and charges for bringing their own insurance ($20), which are only revealed at the rental desk despite online confirmations stating $0 due at pickup. The claim that the online price is just a "base price" and not the full price is a major point of contention.
- Poor Customer Service & Communication Issues: Reviewers describe being "blocked" when attempting to call about refunds. Staff reportedly do not show up on time for scheduled returns, leaving customers stranded and nearly missing flights. Attempts to resolve issues are met with unresponsiveness or denial.
- Discrepancies in Return Times: Customers with explicit contract agreements for early returns (e.g., 9:30 AM for a flight) faced no-shows from staff and false claims that they had agreed to a later return time ("lunch time").
- Overall "Scam" Allegations: The term "scam" is used explicitly by multiple customers to describe their experience, with strong warnings to "avoid this company" and "go with a reputable company."
- Wait Times at Office: Customers have reported significant wait times at the "office" itself, further adding to the frustration of the rental process.
To contact Economicars, you can use the following information:
Address: 3326 NW S River Dr, Miami, FL 33142, USA
Phone: (786) 247-5239
Mobile Phone: +1 786-247-5239
Given the severe nature of the complaints, potential customers should exercise extreme caution when attempting to contact or book with this company, and be aware that attempts to resolve issues post-rental may be met with unresponsiveness.
For locals in Florida, the numerous and consistent negative reviews regarding Economicars at 3326 NW S River Dr, Miami, FL 33142, USA, should serve as a significant warning. While the initial advertised rates might appear attractive, the overwhelming evidence from customer experiences points to a business model that reportedly includes undisclosed fees, unreturned deposits, and extremely poor customer service. The accounts of being "scammed" out of SunPass deposits, charges increasing tenfold from initial quotes, and being blocked when trying to resolve issues are grave concerns that directly impact a local's desire for a hassle-free and transparent car rental. The reported unreliability of staff for scheduled returns, potentially causing missed flights, further adds to the list of serious operational flaws.
In Florida, a reliable car is essential for both daily life and exploring our beautiful state. The stress, financial burden, and wasted time associated with the issues reported by Economicars' customers far outweigh any perceived initial savings. For a truly smooth and trustworthy car rental experience, locals are strongly advised to prioritize reputable companies with transparent pricing, clear contractual terms, and a proven track record of reliable customer support. Your peace of mind and financial security are paramount, and based on the public data, Economicars appears to present a significant risk to both.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Please don't rent with this company. It's been 4 months since I rented with this company and I haven't gotten my $150 sunpass deposit back that I was promised would be returned in no more than 12 days. I declined on the contract to use sunpass and we were never on a toll road the entire time we used the car. My phone number has been blocked so no one will speak with me about it. My rental went from $25 for two days to almost $250. The $12 a day thing is actually too good to be true. Our contract agreement was to return the car at 9:30 am since we had a flight to catch at 11:20. When we returned to the "office" there was no one around. After several phone calls and some help from the owner of the body shop next door some one finally showed up at 10:15. They said that we said that we were going to return the car at lunch time but the contract very plainly said 9:30 am. I just want to warn others as to what is really going on at economi cars and so others don't get scammed as well. The only response I recieve from them is that I used sunpass at some point in my rental. I would be willing to accept that but somehow no one can turn over paperwork to show where sunpass was used. Go with a reputable company.
Jan 01, 2020 · Javan and Nora EshIf I could give this company negative stars I would. EasyRentCars arranged the rental for me in November 2019 with Economicars for a total if $58.45. I won’t even go into the wait at the airport or the condition of the car. At the desk I paid an additional $88.89 for unspecified taxes and also a Florida Sunpass deposit of $300 (negotiated down from the $700 Economicars wanted). The contract stated that I would receive a refund of the unused deposit within 45 days. After making two requests in writing via email, I have received no response. I drove straight to Key West and back, so the actual toll charges should not be over about $8.00. At this point, all I want is the money I am owed. What a nightmare.
Jan 14, 2020 · Patricia HardingWe had a BAD experience trying to rent a car from Economicars. We booked our 1-month rental through a 3rd party website and pre-paid for the entire month. We called Economicars a few times prior to arriving to Miami, just to clarify details regarding insurance and adding on additional drivers. Never did someone answer the phone professionally (the way you would expect a rental car company to answer), nor did anyone speak English. We were told several times what our final cost would be if we brought in our own proof of insurance and if we added an additional driver. Fast forward to when we arrived to their location. There was nothing that looked like a legitimate car rental company. The door (with the tiny Economicars sign) was locked, so we called. Someone said they would be down in a few minutes to let us in. We walk upstairs (keep in mind, we are the only customers there) and it took at least 30 minutes for any paperwork to be presented to us. They presented us with a contract that was at least $700 higher than we expected. They included a base rate for the month (even though it was pre-paid), as well as a mandatory $15 per day SunPass fee for the tolls (this added an additional $465). We've rented cars from the larger agencies in Miami many times before, and we know that SunPass is not required, and you are charged for actual usage (and not a flat fee of $15 per day). After about 45 minutes of getting absolutely no where, we left without our rental car. We ended up going with Enterprise the next day...which was a pleasure to deal with. We do not recommend renting a car from Economicars!
Aug 20, 2019 · Marisa MontalvoI would give a -1 if possible. Price on Expedia was $217, when I got here they told me I had to buy a mandatory $30 a day insurance jacking up the price three times as much. Total waste of my time
Jul 16, 2024 · Rick SchroederI have the same experience. of Patricia. Advertised $109 for 13 days. Got there. $719 dollars. Then she said that there is $ 108 for insurance. So after insisting that my credit card take care of the insurance she said no. Then I am about to walk out the door and she said Ok I can do it but I have to put an extra $100 on the deposit for Sunpass etc.. bringing the deposit to $308.. I felt that it was a scam but didn't want to drag my wife back at the Airport etc...So i went for it. We put about 50 miles on the car in 13 days. Did not when to any tolls or got any tickets. Still not recaive my deposit back after 2 and half months. The telephone is now cut off or block don't know.? Stay away if you don't want to be next!
