For many residents across Illinois, particularly those navigating the expansive city of Chicago, a reliable car rental service is often a crucial component of their transportation strategy. Whether you're managing an insurance replacement, planning a quick trip out of the city, or simply need a temporary vehicle, choosing the right rental agency is paramount. In Chicago, Illinois, Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 5451 N Northwest Hwy in the Norwood Park area is a well-known option for vehicle rentals. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of this specific Enterprise location, offering insights from the perspective of local Illinois users and helping them understand what to expect from its services, accessibility, and overall customer experience.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a globally recognized brand, often associated with a wide fleet and convenient locations. However, as with any service, individual branch experiences can vary. For the Illinois consumer, understanding the local nuances of the 5451 N Northwest Hwy branch is key to a smooth rental process. We will delve into its specific offerings, how its location serves the local community, and highlights (both positive and negative) drawn directly from customer feedback, enabling prospective renters to make an informed decision for their next vehicle rental in the Chicagoland area.
The Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch is situated at 5451 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60630, USA. This location places it in the Norwood Park neighborhood on Chicago's Northwest Side. Northwest Highway is a significant thoroughfare that provides good connectivity to various parts of the city and nearby suburbs, including Park Ridge, Edison Park, and Niles. Its position makes it a convenient option for residents in these areas who prefer a local rental pickup rather than navigating to O'Hare International Airport's main rental car facility.
The branch's accessibility is further enhanced by its presence within a busy commercial area, making it easy to locate. Enterprise typically offers a "Pick-Up Service Available" from nearby locations, which can be a significant convenience for customers whose vehicles are in the shop or who don't have immediate transportation to the rental office. For locals in the northwest Chicago suburbs, this specific Enterprise branch provides a practical and relatively easy-to-reach point for their car rental needs, often serving as a preferred alternative to the more congested airport locations.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 5451 N Northwest Hwy generally offers a comprehensive range of car rental services typical of a major rental provider, aiming to cater to diverse customer requirements:
Diverse Vehicle Selection: Enterprise maintains a large fleet that usually includes economy cars for budget-friendly travel, compact and mid-size sedans for everyday commuting, full-size vehicles for more comfort, and SUVs of various sizes for family trips or increased cargo space. Minivans are also typically available for larger groups. Specialty vehicles like convertibles might also be offered, depending on inventory. The branch aims to have a range of options, though specific models cannot always be guaranteed despite reservations.
Short-Term and Long-Term Rentals: Customers can typically arrange rentals for daily, weekly, or monthly durations, providing flexibility for quick errands, vacations, or extended temporary vehicle needs, such as during long-term vehicle repairs.
Insurance Replacement Rentals: A significant portion of Enterprise's business revolves around insurance-based rentals, providing vehicles to customers whose cars are being repaired after accidents or breakdowns. This location is equipped to handle such arrangements, though customer experiences indicate the importance of clear communication regarding policy coverage and duration.
Pickup Service: As mentioned, Enterprise often provides a pickup service from a customer's home, office, or body shop, adding a layer of convenience. However, customers are advised to confirm timing and specific procedures, as delays can occur.
Optional Protection Products: Enterprise offers various optional protection products such as Damage Waiver (DW), Personal Effects Coverage (PEC), and Extended Protection, which renters can choose to purchase for additional coverage. It's important for customers to understand these options and how they might overlap with existing personal insurance or credit card benefits.
Additional Driver Policy: Enterprise's policy typically allows a spouse or domestic partner to be an additional authorized driver at no extra charge, provided they meet age and licensing requirements. Other additional drivers may incur a daily fee.
Customer feedback for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 5451 N Northwest Hwy provides a mixed, but important, set of highlights and areas to note:
Inconsistent Customer Service: While some Enterprise locations receive high praise for service, reviews for this specific branch indicate significant inconsistencies. One customer described the customer service as "garbage" and detailed issues with unhelpful staff and uncommunicated policies. Another review mentions a positive experience at a different Enterprise location, suggesting variability across branches.
Communication Gaps: Several issues stem from a lack of clear communication. Examples include miscommunication regarding toll coverage, the need for two phone numbers for rental, and unclear processes for insurance-based rentals where the branch expects the customer, not the body shop, to coordinate with insurance.
Vehicle Condition and Allocation: A notable concern is the condition of the vehicles provided. One customer received a "base model Nissan Kicks" with "nearly bald tires" and poor suspension, which was also found to be unclean with a used water bottle inside. This suggests that vehicle quality and cleanliness can be inconsistent and below expected standards for a major brand.
Unannounced Policies: The requirement for two phone numbers, described as a "corporate policy" not communicated upfront, caused significant discomfort for a long-time business customer. Such unannounced policies can lead to frustrating delays and dissatisfaction.
Delay in Pickup Service: Even with a scheduled appointment, customers have reported significant delays (e.g., 35 minutes wait) for the pickup service from body shops, indicating potential inefficiencies in their coordination process.
Toll Charges and Insurance Extension Issues: Billing discrepancies, such as unexpected toll charges and demands for customers to coordinate insurance extensions directly, contribute to a perception of poor post-rental support and transparency.
Questionable Vehicle Categorization: The discrepancy between a "full-size vehicle" reservation and receiving a compact crossover like a Nissan Kicks highlights potential issues with vehicle categorization or availability management.
For Illinois residents needing to contact Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 5451 N Northwest Hwy in Chicago, the following information is provided. Given the nature of some customer feedback, direct and clear communication is highly recommended for all inquiries.

It is strongly advised to call this branch directly to confirm all specific details of your rental, including vehicle type availability, any unique policy requirements (like multiple phone numbers or payment methods for insurance rentals), and the exact process for pickup and drop-off, especially if you are coordinating with a body shop or insurance company. Proactive communication can help manage expectations and potentially avoid negative experiences.
For Illinois residents, particularly those in the Norwood Park area of Chicago and its surrounding northwest suburbs, Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 5451 N Northwest Hwy offers a conveniently located option for car rental. Its presence in a local commercial hub provides an accessible alternative to more distant airport locations, and its direct pickup service can be a practical feature for those needing a vehicle while theirs is in the shop.
However, suitability for locals from this specific branch comes with important considerations based on recent customer feedback. While Enterprise as a brand is large and generally reliable, experiences at this particular location appear to be inconsistent. Issues related to communication transparency (e.g., tolls, insurance coordination, unannounced policy requirements like two phone numbers), vehicle cleanliness and condition, and pickup delays have been reported. This suggests that while the location is physically convenient, the customer experience can be variable.
Therefore, for Illinois locals considering this Enterprise branch, it is crucial to approach the rental process with diligence. Proactive and detailed communication with the branch regarding all terms, conditions, vehicle expectations, and pickup/drop-off logistics is highly recommended. By clarifying all aspects upfront, locals can potentially mitigate the risks of dissatisfaction and ensure a smoother rental experience that meets their specific transportation needs in the dynamic Chicago metropolitan area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The customer service is garbage. I was sent to 4 different enterprises and then was told tools were covered and not to worry. Now they want to charge me 28 bucks for the toll. On top of that they called to let me know they are charging me two extra days cause that’s what the insurance allotted. He said we don’t talk to your insurance, you have to. I asked why and he simply said because he didn’t have to. Worst service ever.
Jul 04, 2025 · Monica HernandezI had scheduled a vehicle drop-off at the body shop and arranged for a rental through Enterprise. Knowing my appointment time, I called Enterprise five minutes before arriving at the shop to get the process moving. However, I was told that Enterprise didn’t know to wait for the body shop to call them—despite this being a standard part of the process. After the shop called, I still had to wait another 35 minutes for pickup. That delay, given the scheduled appointment, is frankly unacceptable.Furthermore, I was informed to bring a driver’s license and a form of payment—standard procedure. At no point was I told I needed to provide two phone numbers. I only have one phone number, as do many people. I've been renting from Enterprise and National for over 10 years as a business customer, with hundreds of rentals under my belt. This was an insurance-based rental—I wasn’t planning on stealing your vehicle. However I was told this was a corporate policy and there was nothing they could do. In the end I ended up giving the store my neighbors phone number which make me incredibly uncomfortableSpeaking of the vehicle: I was given a base model Nissan Kicks, which was extremely uncomfortable, with nearly bald tires that barely meet road safety standards. The suspension felt like driving a rock. It was not the quality I’ve come to expect when reserving a full-size vehicle. If you're going to claim that's a full size car then [insert risque size joke].To make matters worse, the car was not properly cleaned. I found a used water bottle left behind by a previous renter—something that should never happen.I will not rent from this location again and will be reconsidering my loyalty to Enterprise altogether if this is the level of service to be expected going forward.
Apr 08, 2025 · Eric OlsonI have used Enterprise many many times and was always very happy until my recent visit. I rented a vehicle from them, there was visible damage upon my rental and the employee Jake literally pointed at the scuff mark. I assumed he put it in the pre lease report. Upon returning the rental 2 days later they informed me that he didn't and I was responsible for paying for their damaged car. It's outrageous. I will be going to court over this. Then the employee lied about it and said he never noticed the damage as if I wasn't standing there with him. They lost a good customer who uses them often. Do not go to this location. As far as Jake goes the Lord knows the truth and I hope no one ever has to be put through this.
Feb 24, 2025 · Michael KoziolPick up and drop off at the repair shop were super easy. The enterprise employee I worked with was extremely nice and went out of his way to help me. And the car was beautiful.
Mar 19, 2025 · Carol JaskulkeThe manager Carl has horrible costumer service skills. The manager was upset with me because I would not take a pickup truck that had a busted taillight. They started giving me attitude for not taking another vehicle. I asked to be referred to another location and they refused. I had to cancel my reservation. I would NOT recommend this location. Seems like Carl was having a bad day.
