Enterprise Rent-A-Car Introduce
For residents and visitors in the dynamic East Bay region of California, access to a reliable vehicle is often a practical necessity, whether it's for daily commuting, weekend excursions to wine country, or extended road trips across the Golden State. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a well-known name in the car rental industry, boasting a wide network of locations and a diverse fleet of vehicles. The Berkeley branch, situated at 1706 San Pablo Ave, serves as a key access point for locals seeking temporary transportation solutions.
Enterprise generally aims to provide a comprehensive rental experience, offering various vehicle types to suit different needs, from compact cars for navigating urban streets to larger SUVs for family adventures. However, as with any service-oriented business, individual customer experiences can vary, and it's valuable for prospective renters to be informed about the specific characteristics of a local branch. This article will provide an overview of Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 1706 San Pablo Ave in Berkeley, detailing its location, services, and key features, while also incorporating insights from customer feedback to offer a balanced perspective for the Californian consumer.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is located at 1706 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702, USA. This address places the branch on a prominent and busy thoroughfare in Berkeley, providing relatively good accessibility for local residents. San Pablo Avenue is a major north-south artery that connects various East Bay cities, making it a recognizable and often straightforward route to reach. The location's position within a mixed commercial and residential area means it's often convenient for those living or working in North Berkeley, West Berkeley, and even parts of Albany or El Cerrito.
For those relying on public transportation, San Pablo Avenue is well-served by AC Transit bus lines, with stops likely within a short walking distance of the branch. While not immediately adjacent to a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station, the branch is generally accessible via a short bus ride or ride-share from downtown Berkeley or North Berkeley BART stations. This neighborhood location positions Enterprise as a convenient option for community members who may not have a personal vehicle or require a temporary replacement, offering an alternative to airport-based rental counters that can be less practical for everyday local use.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car typically offers a comprehensive range of car rental services designed to meet diverse customer needs, and the 1706 San Pablo Ave location in Berkeley generally aligns with these offerings. Specific vehicle availability may vary based on demand and fleet rotation, but customers can typically expect:
- Extensive Vehicle Selection: A wide variety of vehicle classes including:
- Economy and Compact Cars (e.g., Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage): Ideal for fuel efficiency and navigating urban environments.
- Mid-size and Full-size Sedans (e.g., Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima): Offering more space and comfort for daily driving or longer trips.
- SUVs (e.g., Nissan Kicks, Toyota RAV4, Chevrolet Suburban): Ranging from compact to full-size, suitable for families, groups, or those needing extra cargo space for California adventures.
- Minivans (e.g., Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Sienna): Perfect for larger families or groups up to 7-8 passengers.
- Premium and Luxury Vehicles (e.g., Audi A4, BMW 3 Series): For special occasions or enhanced driving experiences.
- Trucks and Cargo Vans: For moving, hauling, or commercial needs.
- Flexible Rental Durations: Options for daily, weekly, and monthly rentals to accommodate both short-term requirements and extended periods of vehicle use.
- One-Way Rentals: The ability to pick up a vehicle at this Berkeley branch and return it to another Enterprise location (subject to availability and potential fees), useful for interstate travel or specific itineraries within California.
- Online and Mobile App Reservations: Convenient booking and management of rentals through the Enterprise website and their mobile application, streamlining the process for customers.
- Damage Waiver and Protection Options: Various optional protection products, such as Damage Waiver (DW) and Extended Protection, are available for purchase, providing different levels of coverage for the rental vehicle and third-party liability. (It's always recommended to review personal insurance coverage before purchasing these options).
- Fuel Options: Choices for refueling the vehicle, including prepaying for fuel, having Enterprise refuel it upon return (at a higher rate), or refilling it yourself before returning the vehicle.
- Additional Driver Policy: Guidelines for adding authorized drivers, typically a spouse or domestic partner who meet specific age and driver's license requirements. Additional fees may apply for other drivers.
- After-Hours Returns: The branch may offer an after-hours key drop-off service for convenience, allowing customers to return vehicles outside of regular business hours (customers remain responsible for the vehicle until business opens).
Enterprise Rent-A-Car, as a leading brand, offers several features that are generally consistent across its locations, including the Berkeley San Pablo Ave branch. These are designed to provide convenience and flexibility for renters:
- Extensive Network: Being part of a vast national and international network means customers have access to many locations for pickup and drop-off, which can be beneficial for one-way trips across California.
- Enterprise Plus Loyalty Program: A free loyalty program that rewards frequent renters with benefits such as expedited service, earning points towards free rental days, and the ability to add a spouse or domestic partner as a free additional driver.
- Wide Selection of Vehicle Classes: The ability to choose from a broad range of vehicles ensures that customers can often find a car that precisely matches their needs, whether for economy, capacity, or luxury.
- Neighborhood Branch Focus: Enterprise emphasizes its "neighborhood" locations, aiming to serve local residents with convenient access to rental vehicles for everyday needs, not just airport travel.
- Digital Tools: The Enterprise website and mobile app offer user-friendly interfaces for booking, managing reservations, and accessing account information.
However, it is crucial for potential renters to be aware that while these features are part of the Enterprise promise, actual customer experiences can sometimes present challenges. Reviews, including those specific to this branch, highlight potential issues related to vehicle cleanliness, accuracy of reservations, transparency of pricing (especially concerning additional charges like insurance or fuel), and the resolution of disputes. It is highly recommended that customers meticulously inspect their vehicle before departure, clarify all charges upfront, and retain all documentation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Avoid This Company at All Costs – Predatory, Dishonest, and DisgustingIf I could give zero stars, I would. This rental company, and Hanah, shamelessly took advantage of my elderly mother and showed an alarming lack of integrity and customer care. She was given a car that reeked of urine, completely unacceptable by any standard. Not only was the vehicle filthy, but it also wasn’t even the car we reserved. When I called to resolve the issue, I was put on hold for over an hour, and no one ever picked up. We showed up to Enterprise still on hold an hour later and I explained all of this in person when we returned the vehicle, only to be told that we would still be charged for the full day anyway. No apology. No accountability. Just a shrug and a bill.Worse yet, they charged my mother double ($677) what I agreed to pay under the exact same rental agreement ($299). Then they had the nerve to accuse her of damaging the car two scratches on the top of the trunk, a baseless and dishonest claim clearly intended to squeeze more money from a vulnerable customer. I asked Hanah for pictures of the vehicle when it left Enterprise and she refused to show me the pictures stating she initially thought it was water spots. She took pictures of when it left and when it returned but yet couldn’t provide them to me upon request continuing to ask my mother to talk to her on the side. These marks did not damage the paint, can probably be rubbed out, and if you believed they were water marks when you let the vehicle go it is not okay to charge for the same marks when it returns an hour later and no one used the car. Despite me after for pictures Hanah stated she needed to have the car assess for damage, a charged billed to my mother.Hanah refused to provide pictures, provide me with the rental agreement, refused to speak with me and kept trying to pull my mother in one on one conversations away from me despite my mother letting her know she wanted me to be present. Hanah refused to do the right thing stating she would charge insurance, one day rental, one hour rental, and the protection plan. I still have yet to understand how a rental agreement for $299 turns into $677.This company does not care about its customers — especially not seniors, who they clearly see as easy targets. Their lack of professionalism, compassion, and ethics is appalling.Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of reputable rental companies out there — this is not one of them. We went to Hertz in Albany without issue rented the exact same car I reserved for ($271) and they sent me emails of the vehicle as is before I left the lot.
Jul 15, 2025 · Camille Yolanda GroganDon't rent from this company. They never rent cars with full tanks. That means customers always have to guess on how much gas to put in before returning and people will always put too much. They've done this to us multiple times. If they were honest they would never rent a car unless it was full so that customers knew exactly how to return the car. This is an anti-consumer business practice and in my opinion unethical. Beware!
Jun 11, 2025 · Greg SandovalAvoid this location and stay away from Elena and Jared that didn’t fulfill the reservation, left me without a car and thought nothing of it.I reserved a car in the morning. I received a phone call informing me that since this is a same day reservation there’s a delay in getting me the car.So far so good. The stated maximum delay was 2 hours.I arrived at the location 4 hours later. I was informed that the car was not there. Elena informed me that they had a lot of bookings. She didn’t bother to call me to let me know there’s no car at the location thus wasting my time. She was seemingly confused why would this bother me and why I had a problem with her not calling me they cannot fulfill the reservation. She offered to put me on a waitlist which was laughable since it was close to the closing time. It was an attempt to get me to go away. This is when Jared stepped in playing the bad cop and telling me there’s no car for me.He said they had to make a lot of phone calls this day. I thought that’s their job. To make phone calls and arrange things with customers. Maybe Jared confused that place with DMV.He didn’t have an answer when I asked him why didn’t they find a minute to call me and tell me they cannot fulfill the reservation. To the management: fire them, they are not capable of doing the basics right.
May 16, 2025 · Andrew AgathonThis is my first time renting from Enterprise. My car was in a hit and run accident and Enterprise took good care of my rental car needs. This was my first time renting a car due to car collision incident. Everyone I spoke to were polite, friendly, professional and explained clearly how the car rental works with insurance. Shout out to Ayanna, Malyssa and Marie. The entire operation is stellar. And the cars were clean.
May 09, 2025 · Grace SThe rental service itself is no problem, but their customer service specifically with lost items isn’t the best. I turned in the rental at night when it was closed and realized I’d left something in the car, I called the next morning while the car was being cleared and somehow my item wasn’t found? I called again to circle back and see if anything had come up but of course at that point the car had been rented out. I would understand if I’d waited weeks and expected something to come up, but it hadn’t even been a full 8 hrs
