The car rental experience can significantly impact your trip or daily routines, and understanding the nuances of a rental agreement, including potential hidden fees, vehicle condition, and customer support, is paramount. While the allure of seemingly low online prices can be tempting, customer reviews for Fly N Drive Rent A Car (and HDC Rent a Car) highlight several areas of concern. These include discrepancies between advertised and actual prices, unexpected mandatory fees for insurance or SunPass, strict pick-up time policies leading to booking cancellations, and issues with vehicle maintenance, particularly regarding tire safety.
Furthermore, challenges with customer service, such as difficulty reaching management for problem resolution and delays in deposit refunds, are frequently mentioned. For Floridians, who rely on clear communication and dependable service, these points are critical to consider when evaluating car rental providers.
This article will delve into the specific details of Fly N Drive Rent A Car, covering its physical location and accessibility, the services it purports to offer, and a detailed look at the features and highlights, emphasizing the lessons learned from previous customer interactions. Fly N Drive Rent A Car is a car rental service operating in Miami, Florida, sharing its physical location and staff with HDC Rent a Car. It aims to provide vehicle rental services to travelers and local residents in the Miami area. The company's business model appears to involve online bookings, often through third-party platforms, followed by in-person processing at their office.
The car rental market in Miami is highly competitive, with numerous providers catering to the vast influx of tourists and the transportation needs of a large local population. For any rental company to succeed, it must demonstrate consistent reliability, transparent pricing, and robust customer support. Based on customer reviews, Fly N Drive Rent A Car presents a mixed picture, with significant concerns raised by several renters.
Key issues highlighted by customers include a disparity between initial online quoted prices and the final amount charged at the counter, often due to mandatory "extra fees" for insurance and other services. There are also reported instances of bookings being canceled due to slight delays in pick-up times, and concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of the vehicles, specifically old and potentially unsafe tires.
Furthermore, challenges in post-rental support, such as difficulty reaching management to resolve issues and delayed or unfulfilled deposit refunds, are recurring themes in customer feedback. These operational aspects are critical for potential renters to consider, as they directly impact the overall rental experience and financial outlay.
It is paramount for Floridians to be highly vigilant when dealing with car rental services that exhibit such patterns. Thorough research, direct communication to clarify all terms, and careful inspection of vehicles and contracts are essential steps to mitigate potential negative experiences.
Fly N Drive Rent A Car is located at 4019 NW 28th St, Miami, FL 33142, USA. This address places the rental office in a commercial area of Miami, relatively close to Miami International Airport (MIA).
While advertised as having airport pick-up, customer reviews indicate that the pick-up process typically involves being collected by a shuttle from the airport to their off-site office. This is a common practice for many independent and smaller car rental companies in the vicinity of major airports. However, reports of long waits for the shuttle or the shuttle not showing up, leading customers to take a taxi, suggest potential inconsistencies in this service.
For locals, the location itself is accessible by car within Miami-Dade County. However, reaching it might involve navigating busy Miami traffic, especially during peak hours. If relying on public transport, it would likely involve multiple transfers, as direct public transport connections to specific off-site rental offices can be limited.
Given the feedback, prospective renters should explicitly confirm the exact pick-up procedure (airport shuttle availability, frequency, and contact details for the shuttle) before their arrival to minimize confusion and potential delays. Understanding that the office is not directly within the airport terminal and requires a separate transfer is an important detail for planning your journey to and from the rental location.
- Car Rental Services: Provides vehicles for various rental periods.
- Airport Pickup (via shuttle): Advertised service for picking up customers from the airport and transporting them to the off-site office. (Note: Customer experiences indicate potential inconsistencies with this service).
- Basic Rental Agreement: Involves standard rental contracts, though terms regarding insurance, deposits, and mileage may vary significantly from initial online quotes.
- Vehicle Provision: Offers cars for rent, although their condition and maintenance standards have been questioned by customers.
- Shared Operations: Operates in the same building and with the same staff as HDC Rent a Car.
- Online Booking Availability: Offers reservations through various online platforms.
Crucial Concerns and Potential Red Flags (Based on Customer Reviews):
- Price Discrepancies and Hidden Fees: Customers frequently report that the final price charged at the counter is significantly higher than the online booking price. This often stems from mandatory, unadvertised charges for "highest insurance" and "SunPass" or "civil liability insurance" with very high minimum coverage requirements (e.g., $500,000), which can invalidate personal insurance.
- Strict Pick-up Time Policy: Bookings may be canceled if customers arrive even slightly (e.g., 1 hour) past their scheduled pick-up time, even if the delay is unavoidable or the car is still available.
- Questionable Vehicle Condition: One severe complaint details an old tire with a damaged rolling surface and insufficient profile depth, leading to a flat tire and safety concerns. A tire professional allegedly confirmed the tire was "very old and harmful." Other general complaints about car condition or cleanliness exist.
- Poor Roadside Assistance: Customers have been instructed to change flat tires themselves, without proper support, leading to personal injury.
- Unacceptable Driving License Policies: Reports of the company not accepting local driving licenses (e.g., French licenses) unless an "extra fee" is paid, or requiring an International Driving Permit when not strictly necessary for many local licenses, raising concerns about legitimacy.
- Lack of Managerial Support & Deposit Refunds: Multiple customers reported inability to reach a manager for problem resolution, with promises of callbacks that never materialize. Delays or non-refunds of security deposits (e.g., $100) are also reported.
- Allegations of Scams: Customers explicitly use terms like "scammers," "cheating game," and "obvious business scam" to describe their experiences, leading to intentions to report to police and consumer protection authorities.
- Shuttle Service Issues: Reports of airport shuttle not arriving, forcing customers to take taxis to the rental office.

For locals in Florida, particularly those in the Miami area, a detailed review of Fly N Drive Rent A Car (and its associated HDC Rent a Car operations) reveals significant concerns that prospective renters should carefully consider. While the idea of a local car rental service might initially seem appealing, the pervasive issues highlighted in customer reviews paint a picture of a company with substantial operational and customer service challenges.
The most critical concerns for Floridians include the reported discrepancies between online quoted prices and the final, much higher costs at the counter due to allegedly mandatory and unadvertised "extra fees" for insurance and other services. This lack of transparency can lead to significant financial shocks, directly impacting your budget for transportation. Furthermore, unexpected requirements for specific insurance types or international driving permits, often accompanied by additional fees, are not typical for reputable rental agencies and can cause undue stress and expense.
The reported issues with vehicle maintenance, particularly the mention of old and harmful tires, are a serious safety concern for anyone driving on Florida's highways. For locals, who might be planning longer trips across the state, the idea of operating a vehicle with potentially unsafe components is alarming and contradicts the basic expectation of a safe rental car. The lack of proper roadside assistance, forcing customers to handle tire changes themselves, further exacerbates safety and convenience concerns.
Moreover, the recurring theme of poor customer service—including difficulty reaching management for problem resolution, unfulfilled promises of callbacks, and delayed or unrefunded security deposits—is a significant red flag. For busy Floridians, dealing with such issues post-rental can be a considerable source of frustration and financial loss.
Given the consistent and severe negative feedback regarding pricing transparency, vehicle safety, and customer support, Fly N Drive Rent A Car, as presented by customer reviews, appears to be an unsuitable option for most locals in Florida seeking a reliable and straightforward car rental experience. Floridians are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, read all fine print meticulously, and consider alternative, more highly-rated rental agencies to ensure a safe, transparent, and hassle-free journey across the Sunshine State.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I did a rental between 28th and 31st of January there. The name of HDC rent a car is same as Fly N drive rent a car. They're in same building with same staff. I'll share my review on Fly N Drive page too and verse. When I decided beside this company in the ad I saw the car pickup will be at the airport. This was the first thing what wasn’t same what happened. After the colleague picked me up and went to the office I heard a conversation with a French couple, the company is not accept French driving license. Only international license. But for some extra fee the French card is acceptable. It was very strange for me. Me too have only local driving license and never had any problem with that. When I made the rental agreement there, they told me the booking is not visible in the system and the reason is my booking made with a 10 am pickup on 28th of January and I arrived later than 1 hour of this posted time. Then we checked the rules of rental and I found it in the details finally. But this rule is too strict and never happened with me similar. Then they told me if I accept the highest insurance and sun pass payment charge too, he can give me a car for 180 USD. The original amount on the booking was 50 USD. I think this was a cheating game, but I accepted it finally cause I didn’t want to lost more time with this case. After I got the car, on 30th I went to Key West with the car and when I drove back from there I felt a jumping from the back wheel. I stopped then and checked what I felt and I saw the rolling surface is removed from the tire around a half palm size area. Then I thought I can drive back to the office still, but in a few mile the air is went from the wheel. Then I called up the company and they told me I have to do the wheel changing on my own. During that, my fingers damaged unfortunately, but finally I did it.Then I went to the tire service to make me sure this is not my fault. The tire professional told me the tire was very old and the profile depth was too small. He told me maybe the setup of undercarriage is improper too. I’ve got a report of this inspection of course. He told me that’s not a correct rental agency which is working with car with old and harmful tires. Then I went to the rental company, but all of colleague told me there is not a manager who can make a decision in this case. So finally I’ve got a new car for one day and after I tried to ask about the manager/decision again, without result. All of colleague told me the manager will call me up ASAP but this not happened.BTW my 100 USD deposit is not refunded still and didn't get any answer my mail about it.I'll add a few pics of tire and of course I'll send the story to the police dept and consumer protection authority to prevent the cheat other visitors in Miami.
Feb 07, 2024 · Gábor SzálerThese guys are true scammers you do booking online for a low price then they reach out and say that price is only for reservation, actual price is higher. Definetely need to be seen by local regulators or lawmakers since this is an obvious business scam
Jul 03, 2025 · Ilkin JavadHonestly,Price was cheap online, when you come price change with hiding fees. You should not trust them about anything. NO ONE was in the office when i had to return back the car, stressful situation that you can avoid by taking a classic rental company. I got a citation of 36$ that i wanted to pay, they told me no problem it will be deducted of the deposit, they deducted $100 for "admin fee". This is the kind of things that happen at Fly N drive.
Dec 23, 2024 · Kardo SeloDon’t go there it’s a SCAM BIG SCAM! Price online 200$, prepaid 90$ and when we arrive he told us that the price is 630$ He invent some law that doesn’t exist, i checked with a lawyer. Please don’t go ! We decided to leave and went to Enterprise at the airport. It was half the price with insurance
Nov 12, 2023 · Alem IsmainAbsolutely terrible experience. I don’t understand how they’ve received any positive reviews. This place is a total scam! I booked and paid everything online, but when I arrived, they still wanted to charge extra for insurance and toll fees—even though these were clearly included in my booking. On top of that, their staff could barely communicate in proper English, making the situation even more frustrating. This business should be shut down. Stay away!
