The first car we rented the rear back up camera was broken I took the car back immediately and spoke with Deborah. I also showed her a picture of the rear view camera display that appears as the driver is backing up. Then she told us to take another car that was in the gold or presidential circle. The second car smelt awful. The lady working in the garage cleaning cars and pulling the cars around was helpful found us another car, the third car.The car we rented was fine until we left for the road trip to another state. It made a loud roaring humming sound intermittently and at different speeds. It made the sound as if you were driving off the road. Hertz customer roadside service was called and informed us local Hertz rental stores were closed in the area, but the airport could have available cars. Tiffany was the person we spoke with and she was nice and helpful and understanding. We told her we were bringing the car back the next day (today) back to Louisville Kentucky airport where it was rented. She gave us a reference number to tell our local Hertz rental service office documenting the incident and phone call conversation. My Hertz roadside case number was 27441233.Today I brought the car back and spoke with Deborah and told her about the car experience. I also mentioned the reference number 27441233 from the representative and she stated she could not access that information and did not try to look in to it. She called the manager to escalate the issue but then told the manager she will deal with it herself because the manager was busy but still offered to help. Deborah typed the issue in the computer system and said she would tell the mechanic about it. I also asked about the inconvenience and reimbursement for returning the car prior to the date it was due. She said she could give us $25 to use towards our next rental and it had to be used within the year. I was also confused because we rented the car for four days but only used three days due to it not being safe. She stated she charged for a weekly rate, 5-7 days.Honestly I would not want to rent from this location. Deborah was not helpful and did not seem concerned about the rental car nor the safety of its customers.

Young female counter agent was pleasant when I was the only customer present, then became rude to me as other customers came in behind me. I don't usually have rude customer service anywhere. I've never used Hertz before, and based on my experience will likely use another car rental service in the future.Returned the car the same day and just parked it and gave the keys to an attendant. I received no paperwork about the car on the spot. The next day on 7/9/2025 I received an email stating that the account was settled without further charges. However, there was nothing in the email or document that mentions that a deposit was ever held on my credit card. There is also no general mention about any credit card hold and release time policies. On the Hertz website, it "promises" that a release of any credit card hold takes 24 hours after completion of transaction, then blames your bank if the charge takes longer. I called customer service to discuss. They gave an escalation number and stated a 3-5 day window to email me a status on the escalation. This is poor customer service in the store at the time of rental and I am still receiving poor customer service days after returning the car and closing out the rental contract.

The cruise control in the car did not work. We had to figure out how to turn off the LCAS warning lights that stayed constantly on. The return was disappointing no one was there to verify things; asked to leave the keys in the car and I just got a fuel charge, even though I returned the car With the tank filled up to full just 2 miles from the return. They seem to do everything they can To make it difficult when you want to return it With a full tank, which is the cheapest option. For these reasons, I would have given a one star, But I’m Being generous because smelly cars make for an awful trip, and so I’m being generous.
