For residents across Tennessee, particularly those in and around the Chattanooga area, access to convenient and reliable car rental services is a common need, whether for business travel, personal trips, or managing temporary transportation challenges. Hertz Car Rental, a globally recognized brand, operates a location at Lovell Field Airport (CHA) in Chattanooga. This article aims to provide a clear and factual overview of this specific Hertz branch, offering insights from a local Tennessee perspective. We will detail its location and accessibility, the general services one might expect, and delve into some important considerations, including its operational model, based on available public information and customer feedback.
Introduction / Overview
Hertz Car Rental at Lovell Field Airport is situated directly within Chattanooga's main airport, serving as a primary point of contact for travelers arriving by air, as well as for local residents seeking rental vehicles. As an airport location, its primary function is to provide immediate ground transportation upon arrival. Hertz is known for its wide range of vehicles, from economy cars suitable for quick trips around Chattanooga to larger SUVs for family adventures in the Tennessee mountains, and even specialty vehicles. It's important for local users to understand that, as indicated by some customer reviews, this particular Hertz location at Lovell Field Airport may operate as a franchise. This distinction can sometimes lead to different customer experiences, policies, and operational nuances compared to corporate-owned Hertz locations. While the core services of a major brand like Hertz are generally consistent, specific local management practices can influence aspects like vehicle availability, cleanliness standards, and customer service responsiveness. Therefore, understanding this aspect is key for Tennessee locals considering this branch for their rental needs.
Location and Accessibility
The Hertz Car Rental at Lovell Field Airport is precisely located at 1101 Airport Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421, USA. Being directly at the airport, its accessibility is unparalleled for those flying into or out of Chattanooga. Upon arrival at Lovell Field, customers can typically walk to the Hertz counter located within the terminal, making for a very convenient pick-up process. For local Tennessee residents not flying, reaching the airport is generally straightforward. Lovell Field Airport is situated east of downtown Chattanooga, with direct access via Airport Road which connects to major thoroughfares such as Highway 153 and ultimately Interstate 75. This connectivity makes the location reasonably accessible by car from various parts of Chattanooga, Cleveland, and other nearby communities in Southeast Tennessee. While public transportation directly to the airport might be limited compared to city centers, the ease of access via car, taxi, or rideshare services ensures that locals needing airport-based rental services can reach it efficiently. The airport setting also means that directions for returning the vehicle are usually well-marked within the airport's car rental return area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had to wait 2 hrs on a previously booked car. Made me miss my Dr appointment which is why I flew in town. Rescheduled appointment and new flight which cost $271.00 extra. Needed to extend since new Dr appointment. Phone number on receipt is not a working number. Never responded to my email. Called 800 number 9 times three days sometimes with hold times calls were an hour or more. Called Expedia seven times. No one could find my reservation was told the number does not exist. Then was told the reason was because that airport branch (Hertz/Thrifty) is privately owned. Went online to extend and same thing, system did not recognize my name or number. Emailed thrifty support, no response. Was told once to drive to them. I am three hrs away and unable to leave currently. Stated over and over that I cannot return car because they caused me to miss a mri appointment and it is rescheduled same time as original return date. Worst rental experience ever. I would not take a year of free rental from this company. And, there is no Thrifty sign on the walls at desk, just Hertz. The ladies behind the desk were super so it is not their fault. Either way, never again. Three days of hell.
Jul 10, 2025 · Michael T. CastleStay far away! This is a franchise location not corporate, so the review is for the Chattanooga airport location, not Hertz in general. I am a Presidents Circle member and rent a hundred times a year from all over. This was my first and last attempt here. I arrive and find that despite what is told online that it is not an ultimate choice location. I wish I would’ve known this prior as I would have reserved exactly what I wanted. Regardless, I was given a small car. I asked about the upgrades that come with PC, and they reluctantly gave me another. That was only the beginning of the frustrations. They have to collect all of your information as if you were a new customer because they are a franchise location. Meaning, I had to give everything and get set up like it was my first ever rental. Once all the paperwork was handled, I was presented with a map that showed a very restrictive area that I could drive and could not drive. I’ve never seen anything like this before. I was then presented with a slip that I had to sign stating there was no damages, even though I had not inspected the vehicle. I was told that I could take pictures and come back in if I saw anything. When I got out to the garage and looked at the vehicle, it was absolutely filthy, so bad that you could not even see out the windows. Because I was picking up business clients, there was no way I could use this vehicle and I wasn’t about to spend that kind of money to go wash it myself. I noticed every other car was just as bad. I went back in and honestly, they could care less, they said it’s too cold for them to clean cars, but it’s funny because all of the other cars from the other different rental agencies were clean. Basically, this is an example of a franchise owner that doesn’t appear to be following corporate guidelines and could care less about their business. If I owned this business and my car wash was disabled due to the weather, I would be driving to a gas station if I had to, they sure don’t give you any discounts on price for renting filthy cars. It was so bad that for the first time ever I canceled my reservation and had my money returned to me. I was able to quickly book a car at Avis, which by the way was significantly cheaper and was on my way in no time with a clean car. I will also point out that all of the employees at the desk at Hertz had their AirPods in which I think is unacceptable when you’re dealing with customers. Overall, this was a terrible experience and I hope the owner can learn from it and figure out how to make his business better.
Jan 25, 2025 · Nick HowellFlight was cancelled so I rented a car for a one-way rental. Was unaware this was a franchise location. Rental cost was $150, plus this location required a $200 deposit. Upon returning the car in Nashville, I received a receipt for the correct car but with another person's name on it for $700. Was told because I rented from a franchise, they didn't have the records. Hertz's website doesn't have a record of my rental. Called this location 4 days later and was told they needed to contact Nashville to confirm the car had been returned to get me the receipt and would do that. Now 7 days later, still waiting on a receipt and credit of my deposit back. Tried calling twice today and no answer. What a hassle!Contacted Hertz via their website (there is no number), and after a week I only received the initial confirmation of my email. No follow up. Customer service across the board is poor.
May 24, 2025 · Jason WoodI recently rented a car from Hertz at the airport for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience that will deter me from using your services again.I reserved a vehicle for 8 AM to attend a funeral. Upon arrival, I was surprised to find that no car was ready for me. I had to wait thirty minutes before receiving a vehicle. When I finally got the car, I noticed that the exterior was filthy.I took pictures of the gas gauge, which was not full, and the mileage. I called the store to report this issue, as it seemed that a thorough inspection was not conducted before I was given the car. I was assured that the situation would be corrected and that I would not be charged for the gas discrepancy. However, I later received an email stating that I was charged $70 for a fill-up, which is more than the rental cost itself. While I appreciate the assistance of Justin L., who was phenomenal in addressing my concerns, this experience as a first-time customer has left me dissatisfied.Given these issues, I regret to say that I will not be returning to Hertz for future rentals.
Jan 24, 2025 · Christopher CooperWe had reserved a low price car for 437$, but the cashier would force us to add an insurance (said to be included initially) to reach a 900 $ fare… so bad we went to AVIS and paid 447$ insurance included.
