Hertz Car Rental - New York City - Albany Street Introduce
Hello, New Yorkers! While our subway system is undeniably iconic, there are times when only a car will do. Whether you're planning a weekend escape from the concrete jungle, need extra space for a shopping spree, or simply require temporary wheels while your ride is in the shop, a reliable car rental service in the city is a must-have. Today, we're putting the spotlight on Hertz Car Rental - New York City - Albany Street, located at 250 Albany St. This branch serves a bustling area of Lower Manhattan, aiming to provide convenient vehicle access for residents and visitors in Battery Park City, the Financial District, and beyond.
Renting a car in New York City comes with its own set of considerations. Unlike suburban locations, space is tight, demand is high, and efficiency is paramount. The Hertz Albany Street location is a neighborhood branch, which often means a different experience than an airport counter. This article will delve into the specifics of this Hertz branch, examining its precise location and how easy it is to access, the range of services typically on offer, and crucial insights from real customer experiences. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge to decide if this Hertz location is the right fit for your next driving adventure or essential errand in and around the Empire State.
Hertz Car Rental - New York City - Albany Street is located at 250 Albany St, New York, NY 10280, USA. This places it squarely within Battery Park City, a residential and commercial neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, adjacent to the Hudson River waterfront and close to the Financial District.
Its location in this modern, planned community offers a distinct accessibility advantage for those in the immediate vicinity. Albany Street is a relatively quieter thoroughfare compared to some of Manhattan's busier avenues, potentially making pick-up and drop-off a slightly less stressful experience. The branch is likely situated within or very close to a parking garage, which is typical for car rental operations in densely populated areas like Manhattan, as street parking is virtually non-existent and impractical for rental fleets.
For New Yorkers relying on public transportation, the Albany Street location is accessible via several subway lines, including the 1, R/W, 4/5, and A/C/E trains, generally requiring a short walk from the nearest subway stations (like Rector St or WTC Cortlandt). This makes it convenient for residents of Lower Manhattan. For those driving from outside the immediate area, its proximity to West Street and easy access to the West Side Highway provides a relatively direct route for exiting or entering the city, though standard Manhattan traffic conditions should always be anticipated. The accessibility is geared towards serving the local downtown community efficiently.
As a corporate Hertz location in a major metropolitan area, the Albany Street branch generally offers a standard range of car rental services designed to meet diverse customer needs.
Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Customers typically have access to a variety of vehicle categories, ranging from economical compact cars (e.g., Ford Focus, Mazda 3) ideal for city driving and fuel efficiency, to standard and full-size sedans (e.g., Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Rogue) for more comfort and space. Depending on availability, they might also offer SUVs for larger groups or families, and potentially specialty or electric vehicles as part of Hertz's broader fleet.
Flexible Rental Durations: The branch accommodates both short-term rentals (daily or weekend rates) and longer-term needs (weekly or monthly rentals), providing flexibility for various travel plans, whether it's a quick trip out of the city or an extended stay.
Online Booking and Management: Hertz provides robust online platforms (website and mobile app) that allow customers to conveniently make reservations, modify existing bookings, or cancel them. This digital accessibility streamlines the planning process.
Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Program: Members of Hertz's loyalty program, particularly Gold Plus Rewards, can benefit from expedited pick-up and drop-off processes, bypass counter lines, and potentially receive vehicle upgrades when available. This is a significant time-saver for frequent renters.
Optional Add-ons: To enhance the rental experience, standard optional equipment like GPS navigation systems and child safety seats are typically available. Various protection plans, such as Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS), are also offered for peace of mind.
Fuel Options: Customers usually have choices regarding fuel, including pre-paying for a full tank, refueling the vehicle themselves before returning it, or having Hertz refuel it for a service charge.
One-Way Rentals: Like many Hertz locations, this branch likely offers one-way rental options, allowing customers to pick up a car in New York City and drop it off at a different Hertz location, which is particularly useful for longer road trips or relocations.
The Hertz Car Rental at 250 Albany Street has several features and highlights, as well as some crucial points for New Yorkers to consider, as reflected in customer feedback:
Downtown Manhattan Convenience: Its location in Battery Park City is a major highlight for residents and workers in the immediate vicinity. This neighborhood branch offers an alternative to the often more crowded and logistically complex airport rental counters, making it convenient for local pick-ups and returns.
Operating Hours: The branch boasts extended hours, opening at 7:00 AM daily and closing at 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday and Saturday, and 10:00 PM on Friday and Sunday. These hours cater well to commuters and weekend travelers.
Potential for Smooth Service: While some experiences vary, one customer highlighted a "fine experience" with "everything went smoothly" from start to finish, praising a staff member named Evan for being "easy to talk to—straightforward, friendly, and professional." This indicates that positive, efficient service is certainly possible at this location.
After-Hours Return Capability: As a corporate Hertz location, it likely offers options for after-hours returns, allowing flexibility for customers whose travel plans extend beyond the operating hours.
However, it is essential for prospective renters to be aware of the following significant concern:
Frequent Car Availability Issues: A recurring theme in the provided reviews is the problem of car availability. Customers with confirmed reservations have arrived only to be told "there were no cars available" and faced waits of "30 minutes to 2 hours." One reviewer explicitly stated, "If you’re renting for something important, avoid this location/Hertz." This is a critical factor for New Yorkers who often have tight schedules and rely on confirmed bookings. The "stressful experience" due to time-sensitive needs being impacted is a major drawback.
For New Yorkers in need of car rental services or looking to confirm their reservations at this branch, here is the contact information for Hertz Car Rental - New York City - Albany Street:
Address: 250 Albany St, New York, NY 10280, USA
Phone: (646) 253-1692
Mobile Phone: +1 646-253-1692
Given the reported issues with car availability, it is highly recommended to call the branch directly to reconfirm your reservation and vehicle readiness, especially on the day of pickup or if your plans are time-sensitive. This proactive step might help mitigate potential frustrations.
For New Yorkers, Hertz Car Rental at 250 Albany Street in Lower Manhattan presents a mixed bag, yet it remains a viable option for specific local needs. Its location in Battery Park City offers significant convenience for residents and businesses in that immediate area, as well as the Financial District. For those living downtown who need a car for a weekend trip out of the city, a visit to family, or perhaps moving small items, the ability to pick up a rental car close to home is undeniably appealing. The generally extended operating hours, compared to some other city locations, also provide flexibility for busy schedules.
When the service runs smoothly, as one positive review highlights, the experience can be "fine" and "went as well as it could’ve," with professional and friendly staff like Evan making the process straightforward. This demonstrates the potential for this branch to deliver on the Hertz brand promise.
However, it's crucial for locals to acknowledge the consistent feedback regarding car availability issues. For New Yorkers who often rely on precise timing and confirmed plans, the uncertainty of a car not being ready for hours, despite a reservation, can be incredibly disruptive and stressful. Therefore, while suitable for its prime location and general service offerings, a local considering this Hertz branch—especially for "something important" or time-sensitive—should absolutely manage expectations, potentially call ahead to confirm vehicle readiness, and ideally have a backup plan. For those with a bit more flexibility and a preference for a downtown pickup, this Hertz location can still be a convenient choice, provided they are aware of the reported challenges.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Like others here have experienced, we arrived at this location for our reservation and were told there were no cars available. We were told we’d have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for a returning vehicle, and that there was nothing Hertz could do. While one staff member was very kind and our wait ended up being about 30 minutes, it was still an extremely stressful experience since we needed the car for a time-sensitive, special occasion. That said, If you’re renting for something important, avoid this location/Hertz
Jun 22, 2025 · Shuyi LiI had a fine experience at this Hertz location, despite seeing a lot of negative reviews beforehand. From start to finish, everything went smoothly. Evan helped me with the rental, and he was easy to talk to—straightforward, friendly, and professional. There were no issues at pickup, no surprises, and returning the car was just as simple. It honestly went as well as it could’ve. I know people tend to leave reviews only when something goes wrong, but I wanted to balance that out and say: this time, everything worked just fine.
Jun 02, 2025 · wenting gI’ve been renting from this Hertz for over a year now and I think it’s the best one in the city. I live in Brooklyn and make it all the way here because they always have a car available, staff is really nice and they take care of you, and there’s usually never a line! I know car rental companies get a bad rep for not being the best, but I do enjoy renting from this location!
May 19, 2025 · Aray RiveraCustomer service was minimal but to the point. No attempts to upsell cars or insurance which I appreciated. No delays in picking up, drop off was easy.
Mar 23, 2025 · Rob DiamondThis should be a zero star review and I am not sure where else to turn except for google reviews since I was not able to be served or have my issue rectified by Hertz.I arrived at this location and was told that I would be “behind” about 20 people who were waiting even though I had a car reserved for the time I arrived. The woman behind the desk was SURLY - so rude that it was actually disturbing - and told me if I wanted to use a different credit card that I would have to cancel the reservation over the phone and wait 7-10 business days for a refund. I needed a car to get to a friends baby shower in South Jersey and I was on a strict schedule. I told her to forget it and just run the correct card. After messing with me for 30 minutes … I was then (AFTER she swiped my card and charged me AGAIN) told that there were “no cars” and in the order of people waiting I would MAYBE get a car at some point. I called customer support to try and get a solution and all they could do is cancel my reservation but hold my funds for 7-10 days. NO CAR. Literally criminal and outrageous behavior.I now have to spend over $300 on an Uber… I am running 90 minutes late …. after being delayed by the lady at the counter for 30 min before she told me she had no cars and I will never use Hertz or this location ever again.
