My singular star is for Saleem, the only associate working the counter that was able to help.I first got a message stating I was upgraded, causing a significant price surge. I communicated to the counter that I wanted the car I had reserved over 3 months prior and already checked in online for, but they informed me that they gave that car away to a different family. I was stuck without a car and my travel party for over an hour while Saleem tried to find a solution. I was (and am) incredibly frustrated, but he was very kind. He was able to get us a similar car.Leaving was no easy task, as the car I was driving didn’t match my reservation, so it took an additional 45 minutes for the car rental associates to allow us to leave with the car. The way I was spoken to was unacceptable, especially as if I wanted the process to be intentionally complicated.Upon returning the vehicle, my credit card was charged $271 on top of what I already paid. The charges came as a surprise and the receipt didn’t make anything clearer — just random taxes and fees that they could have charged prior but would rather blindside you with. This was despite returning the car clean with a full gas tank as instructed.This was my first time renting from Hertz, and I absolutely will not be making this mistake again. Use caution unlike me.

I checked off all the items, but when I got to the Hertz area it ended up being a waste because I still had to go through the line. It also still took close to 25 minutes to complete. The experience itself wasn’t positive either. Even though I had saved a card when I did the rental, when I gave them that card at the checkout they were unable to use it because it’s a business card and doesn’t have my personal name on it. I was also then told that it was going be an extra $200 as a hold to make sure nothing went wrong during the rental. I had to reach out to my wife to have that money sent to me because of how we do our banking. Then when I went to use my debit card, I was told for a debit card it’s an extra $500. So the pending charge went from about $330 to $867. Which is just outrageous. None of that was clearly made visible on the website as I was checking out. My wife and I were able to figure it out, but the person assisting us had no empathy throughout the situation. I understand that $500 is just a temporary charge, but it’s still a big inconvenience, and he seemed completely indifferent to the trouble this was causing us.By the time we finally got up to get our car, they directed me to the wrong area and I ended up grabbing the wrong type of car and when I tried to leave, I had to do a U-turn to return the car. I walked back over to the correct area and found there were literally no cars available for us. So we had to wait another 20+ minutes until one of those cars was returned to the lot.I’ve never rented a car from Hertz before, and this experience alone would make it really hard to choose you again
