★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1DO NOT GO TO THIS HERTZ LOCATION.Where do I even begin.Showed up 30 min early (before opening) because they always run out of cars. Waited in the boiling heat only to deal with an incompetent employee who gave me the entirely wrong class of vehicle that I paid for. I politely asked for a change or refund. She said “the manager has to do that. You can go find him over there” and pointed. I finally found the manager who was completely and utterly rude named SIDNEY (tall guy) - I calmly explained my situation to which he replied with attitude and rudeness and said “go wait for me at the check in counter”.Another 20 minutes passes by - he finally shows up. Then after being on the phone with hertz for 20 min finally said he’ll void my contract and give me a refund.I still called my bank to mark the purchase as fraud.I rent from hertz 20+ times per year — never again.Rude. Incompetent. Poor customer service.
Jul 01, 2025 · Tyler YzaguirreConsistently Disappointing - Not the Hertz Standard I ExpectAs a Hertz President's Circle member, I frequently rent vehicles from airport locations across the country where I consistently received clean, relatively new cars without issue. This makes my experiences with the Hertz at Union Station in Washington D.C. all the more frustrating and unacceptable. While the Union Station location is convenient for those times my family needs a second vehicle, the quality of rentals over our last few experiences has been abysmal. It's become clear that the vehicles we are receiving are part of Hertz's Uber rental program. While I understand the utility of such a program, these cars are simply not suitable for traditional rental customers. They are consistently overly used, extraordinarily dirty, and frankly, abused. This morning, I picked up a 2023 Tesla Model 3 that epitomizes this issue. The condition of the vehicle is disgusting. The visors are heavily and repulsively stained, the steering wheel is so damaged that it requires a cover because the original wrapping is completely gone, and the seats are worn and tattered. It's an entirely unpleasant experience to be in such a poorly maintained vehicle.Thankfully, I only require this particular car for a single day. However, this consistent pattern of receiving substandard vehicles from Hertz Union Station has me seriously considering alternative rental options for our needs in Washington D.C. The current state of the fleet at this location is a disservice to loyal Hertz customers.
Jun 02, 2025 · chris schrieverThis is possibly the worst rental car experience of my lifetime. The Hertz workers at this location instructed me to wait for an employee to bring the car around. After a half hour wait, I had to remind them that I had not yet received my vehicle. They had simply forgotten to drive it around. When they finally realized this, they provided me with an electric vehicle with a 19% battery charge. This was annoying because we had an rad trip planned and would now need to spend time at a charging station. After I returned the vehicle after hours on the agreed upon date and followed all instructions properly, the real headache began. The company refused to close out the contract for weeks, putting daily holds on my credit card for 16 additional days after I returned the vehicle.During this time, I contacted Hertz customer support on four separate occasions (so far). Each instance of contact required half a hour of holding before being connected to a live agent. The first customer service representative informed me that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. After 48 hours I contacted the company again and was informed that the issue would be resolved within 72 hours. After that deadline came and went, I again contacted Hertz customer support and was then told that the matter would be resolved within a week. More than a week later and 16 days after I returned the vehicle I received a final bill which fraudulently recorded that I had only returned the vehicle that morning. I again contacted customer support and was told by the representative that the company would issue me a “refund” within two weeks. Needless to say I will be contacting my credit card company and disputing any charges Hertz attempts to make regarding this matter. I am not in the business of issuing interest free loans to for profit corporations. When I asked about compensation for the 6+ hours of time I had spent on this matter, I was offered two free days of future rentals. I informed the representative that this was wholly inadequate as I never intended to rent from the company again. While this location in particular is very poorly run, the Hertz corporation generally has in the past included questionable charges on my previous rentals. It just feels wrong when you are a loyal President’s Circle member and the company charges you $30 dollars for an alleged chip in a windshield that is undetectable to the naked eye and charges you $80 for charging the battery. These folks seem to be crooks and I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.
Jul 08, 2025 · Ryan GearyThe customer service here is very poor, I am never greeted when I come to the window. I talked to a man who works there with locs about the customer service and his excuse was well we are at work. I was excited about my birthday weekend so rented ahead of time only to get a car that was dirty and smelled like weed and even had trash and ashes in the car, I got an exchange but I was late to my event. I later told them about the car being dirty and another excuse about how they try their best but I overheard another customer complain about the same thing. Also there should be a drop off person to collect keys instead of customers randomly ans rudely reaching their hands through windows while people are making their reservations. The pictures are of a car they gave me first before exchange. I guess customer service is just not popular anymore 😕
Apr 29, 2025 · tavea brooklynAltogether a horrible experience. I arrived to pick up my car at 8:00. There are no signs to tell you where to go. So I tried calling and it was busy. I called the customer service number and they told me to call the location. I told them it was busy when I called repeatedly. The customer service person told me to press 5 when I got the busy signal. I had to attempt to explain to my friend in India that is not how phones work. I was not getting a menu…. It was a busy signal. A person from another rental car company had to show me how to get there. I was 40 minutes late getting the car. The person working did not care at all about my lackluster experience. I was late for my event and missed it. I have a suit that was bought for the event. I am shocked that Hertz would allow this location to be run this way. The employee told me that they don’t have a phone there. There is a phone number on their google listing. What in the gaslighting is going on here? I can’t believe I paid this money to rent a car and then not even be able to make the event. So now I’m out a lot of money. Horrible!
