For those considering Hertz Car Rental - West Babylon - Route 109 at 350 NY-109, it's important to be aware of certain aspects of customer experiences reported at this specific location.
This article aims to provide a factual and informative overview of the Hertz Car Rental branch in West Babylon. While Hertz is a globally recognized brand, individual branch experiences can vary. We will delve into the location, the general services offered by Hertz (though specific local execution may differ), and, crucially, highlight recent customer feedback that suggests potential areas of concern for local users. Our goal is to empower you with balanced information to help you navigate your car rental choices in the New York region.
Location and Accessibility
The Hertz Car Rental - West Babylon - Route 109 branch is located at 350 NY-109, West Babylon, NY 11704, USA. Route 109 (also known as Babylon-Farmingdale Road) is a prominent state highway on Long Island, making this location generally accessible for residents of West Babylon and surrounding communities in Suffolk County. Its position on a main road means it's relatively easy to find and reach by car, whether you're coming from local neighborhoods or traveling from further afield on Long Island's extensive road network.
As a neighborhood location, it is intended to serve local residents, providing a convenient option for those whose cars are in nearby repair shops or who need a rental for local errands or short-distance travel. Parking at the location is generally available for customers picking up or dropping off vehicles. However, while the physical location offers accessibility, the experience of accessing services has been a point of contention for some customers.
Services Offered (General Hertz offerings, but local execution should be considered)
Hertz, as a major car rental company, typically offers a comprehensive range of services. While these are standard offerings, recent customer reviews for this specific West Babylon branch suggest potential discrepancies in how these services are delivered or communicated locally.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Hertz generally provides a wide selection of vehicles, including economy cars, compact sedans, mid-size cars (like the Mazda 3 4-door, often popular at this branch), full-size sedans, SUVs (such as the Nissan Rogue), minivans, and even certain specialty vehicles like Tesla Model 3s, as indicated by available fleet data for this location. This variety aims to meet different travel needs and budget requirements.
- Flexible Rental Durations: Customers can typically rent cars for various lengths of time – daily, weekly, or monthly – to accommodate short trips, vacations, or longer-term needs while personal vehicles are unavailable.
- Online Reservations & Management: Hertz offers an online platform for booking reservations, viewing/modifying existing rentals, extending current rentals, and obtaining receipts. This digital infrastructure is designed to provide convenience and self-service options.
- Protection Plans and Add-ons: Standard options include various insurance and protection products such as Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC), which can be purchased for added peace of mind. Additional features like GPS navigation and child seats are also typically available.
- Debit Card Usage Policy: Hertz's general policy for debit card rentals requires reservations to be made at least 24 hours in advance for most cases, for renters aged 25 or older, and potentially with a Corporate Discount Plan (CDP) or proof of return trip travel. However, debit cards in a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards profile or for insurance replacement rentals might have exceptions. Debit cards are always accepted for payment at the end of a rental. It's crucial to understand these policies upfront.
- Rental Extension Process: Hertz provides mechanisms for extending current rentals, typically through their online platform or by contacting the rental location. Policies for charges during extensions or lack of pre-notification can vary.
Features / Highlights (Based on customer reviews, highlighting areas of concern)
- Significant Customer Service Challenges: A prominent feature, as highlighted by multiple recent reviews, is a reported lack of effective customer service. Customers describe experiences ranging from rude and unhelpful agents to a general disregard for customer time and needs. The inability to get clear information or receive assistance when problems arise is a recurring theme.
- Issues with Debit Card Policy Communication: A specific, major highlight of negative feedback involves the communication (or lack thereof) regarding debit card rental policies. Customers reported going through the entire rental process only to be denied a rental at the very end because of unstated debit card restrictions for same-day rentals, even for long-standing Hertz members. This suggests a failure in upfront communication by local agents.
- Disputes Over Rental Extensions and Charges: Another critical highlight is alleged fraudulent charging related to rental extensions. Customers claim to have extended their rentals but were then charged double or more, with the branch denying the extension took place. This points to serious concerns about transparency and billing practices.
- Perceived Dishonesty and Lack of Transparency: The reviews strongly suggest a perception among customers that this location operates with a lack of honesty and transparency, particularly concerning payment methods and rental duration changes.
- Impact on Customer Loyalty: The negative experiences have led long-time Hertz members to abandon their loyalty to the brand and switch to competitors like Enterprise, indicating a significant breakdown in customer trust at this specific branch.

Conclusion: Why this place is generally NOT suitable for locals (and recommendations)
For residents of West Babylon and surrounding areas on Long Island, while the Hertz Car Rental at 350 NY-109 offers the convenience of a local presence and a typical Hertz fleet, the overwhelming and consistent negative customer feedback paints a concerning picture. The reported issues with rude staff, undisclosed debit card policies leading to wasted time, and alleged fraudulent charges on rental extensions make this particular branch generally not suitable for a reliable and stress-free car rental experience.
The core problem seems to lie in communication and transparency, which are fundamental to good customer service. For New Yorkers, who often have busy schedules and rely on efficient services, the reported "disaster" of wasted time and "infuriating experiences" is a significant deterrent. The strong sentiment of customers vowing to switch to competitors like Enterprise is a clear indicator of dissatisfaction.
Therefore, while this branch exists, locals are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution or, ideally, consider alternative car rental options in the West Babylon area or nearby Long Island towns. If you must use this location, here are some crucial recommendations:
- Call Ahead: Always call the branch directly to explicitly confirm all policies, especially those related to payment methods (debit cards) and rental extensions. Get names of the agents you speak with.
- Document Everything: Keep meticulous records of all communications, confirmation numbers, terms discussed, and especially any payments or charges. Take photos of the car at pick-up and drop-off, and review all paperwork thoroughly before signing.
- Consider Alternatives: For a more reliable experience, explore other well-reviewed car rental agencies in West Babylon or neighboring areas on Long Island that have a stronger track record of positive customer satisfaction.
Ultimately, while every business can have an off day, the consistent nature of the negative feedback for this specific Hertz location suggests systemic issues. Locals should prioritize their peace of mind and look for rental solutions that promise transparency, professionalism, and a genuinely hassle-free experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Worst customer service i ever had. They never said I couldn't use a debit card for a same day rental The representative new it was a debit card from the beginning and made me go through the whole process , Just to find out i couldn't rent the car. I wasted a half hour of my time for nothing. I've rented many cars from you in the past and never had that problem. I am a Hertz member for many years and now I'm going to throw out my membership card and use Enterprise from now on. Don't know what the agents name was he never told me his name. He had an accent and was to understand, was also very rude. Would have gave him 0 stars if I could. I would advise anyone needing to rent a car don't go to the West babylon office.
Mar 06, 2025 · Dominick GermanoThey will do anything to rip you off at this place, but don't believe it, it is the most fraudulent car rental place I have ever seen in my life. I called and extended the rental for two weeks, but they took twice the price from me because there was no extension, but I will not give up on this. BE CAREFUL
May 28, 2025 · aydin tavliYou have 1 person working on the weekend? Is this a joke? The line is out of the door and your employee is running around like a maniac.Hire more people! Be more prepared for reservations! Do better HERTZ!
Jun 07, 2025 · Johan OrellanaI've rented a few times and only had good experiences here (as a gold star/president circle member). Better than another branch I used to use which has gone downhill and ended up shutting down. Optimistic about future rentals since I need if often.
Feb 09, 2025 · Josiah D'ArrigoRented an F150 crew cab from here. Made reservation online, truck was ready for me when I arrived. Transaction took less than 10 minutes, very nice staff. Truck looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor, beautiful and spotlessly clean. Wish I could keep it. Return went just as smoothly, with no snags. Word of warning: don't mess with the toll pay device on the windshield, use your own E-ZPass if you have one.
