Hertz Introduce
For Minnesotans and those visiting our beautiful state, securing reliable and convenient transportation upon arrival at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is a top priority. Hertz, a globally recognized name in car rental, offers services directly at the airport, including a presence at Terminal 2. Located at 4300 Humphrey Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA, Hertz aims to provide a wide selection of vehicles and a customer-focused experience for all travelers. This article will provide a detailed look into what you can expect when renting from Hertz at MSP Terminal 2, from a local user's perspective.
Hertz is one of the world's largest and most established car rental companies, known for its extensive fleet, various loyalty programs, and presence at major travel hubs. The Hertz location at MSP Airport's Terminal 2 caters to passengers flying with airlines such as Southwest and Sun Country, among others. The convenience of an on-airport rental means that after you land, you can quickly proceed to pick up your vehicle and begin your journey through Minnesota without the need for off-site shuttles.
However, it's important to note that customer experiences can vary, and it’s beneficial for local users to be aware of common feedback. While some customers may find their "car was the usual Hertz rental (good)," others have reported challenges, particularly concerning staffing and service levels at Terminal 2. Reviews mention issues like "less than friendly/professional service," long lines with "only 1 person working," and situations where cars were not immediately available on-site, leading to significant waits. One detailed review described "a reservation months in advance" that led to a "worst experience ever," involving frustrating waits, unhelpful staff at "gold member only" counters, and prolonged delays for vehicle delivery. This feedback suggests that while Hertz offers premium services, the Terminal 2 location might operate with a different standard, sometimes closer to a "Hertz Local Edition (HLE) Standards of service," despite paying airport rates. Being prepared for potential delays and understanding the specific operational nuances of this location is key for Minnesotans.
The Hertz Car Rental at MSP Airport's Terminal 2 is located at 4300 Humphrey Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA. This address places it directly within the airport complex, specifically serving the Humphrey Terminal (Terminal 2). For arriving passengers, the Hertz counter and vehicle pick-up area are typically found in the Ground Transportation Center on the ground level of the Purple Ramp, directly across from the terminal building.
It is crucial for Minnesotans to distinguish between MSP's two terminals: Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) and Terminal 2 (Humphrey). If your flight departs from Terminal 1, you will need to return your car to Terminal 1's rental car return and take the light rail or a shuttle to Terminal 2 if you picked up there, or vice-versa. Hertz has a presence at both terminals. The light rail transit (LRT) connects Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, operating 24/7. This connectivity provides flexibility, but awareness of which terminal your airline operates from is vital to ensure a smooth transition.
Hertz is committed to accessibility for all customers. They offer services for travelers with disabilities, including:
- Adaptive Driving Devices: Hand controls and spinner knobs are available at most U.S. locations at no extra charge. It is recommended to reserve these devices with at least 8 hours' notice for major airport locations like MSP.
- Accessible Parking: Hertz corporate locations provide designated accessible parking spaces in car return areas.
- Drivers for Visually or Physically Disabled Customers: A licensed driver (25 years or older) can drive a Hertz car rented by a visually or physically disabled customer, provided the customer is present at the counter and advises Hertz of the arrangement.
These provisions aim to make car rental accessible to a wide range of Minnesotans.
Hertz at MSP Terminal 2 typically provides a comprehensive array of car rental services:
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Hertz boasts a wide selection of vehicles to suit various needs and preferences. This usually includes economy cars (e.g., Chevrolet Spark), compact cars (e.g., Ford Focus), mid-size (e.g., Kia Optima), standard (e.g., Volkswagen Jetta), and full-size sedans (e.g., Chevrolet Malibu). For larger groups or those requiring more space, SUVs (e.g., Nissan Rogue, Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Yukon), minivans (e.g., Chrysler Pacifica), and passenger vans are generally available. They may also offer premium and luxury vehicles (e.g., Volvo S60, Infiniti QX70) and even specialty rentals like the "Manager's Special," electric vehicles (EVs), and trucks.
- Flexible Rental Periods: Hertz accommodates both short-term rentals (daily, weekend) and extended periods (weekly, monthly), offering solutions for quick trips or longer stays in Minnesota.
- Optional Add-ons: To enhance the rental experience, customers can opt for various extras such as Hertz NeverLost® GPS navigation systems, child safety seats (infant, child, and booster), and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio.
- Protection Options: Hertz offers various protection plans, including Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC), allowing customers to tailor their coverage.
- Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Program: For frequent renters, joining the Gold Plus Rewards program can offer significant benefits, including expedited service (potentially skipping the counter), earning points for free rentals, and access to the Hertz Ultimate Choice® program at participating locations, which allows members to choose their car within their reserved class.
- One-Way Rentals: The convenience of picking up a car at MSP Terminal 2 and dropping it off at another Hertz location (within Minnesota or across the country) is generally available, providing flexibility for diverse travel plans.
- Online Check-in: Hertz encourages online check-in to streamline the pick-up process, though reviews suggest this doesn't always guarantee immediate access to the vehicle or avoid lines.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Car was the usual Hertz rental (good). Be advised, the 5-star and President's Circle are not available at Terminal 2, along with less than friendly/professional service. You pay airport car rental rates at Terminal 2, but get Hertz Local Edition (HLE) Standards of service.First time renting at Terminal 2. So disappointed. I'll take the train over to Terminal 1 next time.
Jun 29, 2025 · Tim LuikartWow, just wow. Worst experience ever. I made a reservation months in advance. Hertz sent me an email to check-in online before my flight, which I tried to do, but the process would not complete. So, we land at 430, make it to the hertz counter by 455 and the line is super long and THEY ONLY HAVE 1 PERSON WORKING! He was very nice and patient. I noticed a different hertz sign pointing a different way, so my wife stood in line while I checked it out. Followed the signs to the in garage checkout counter, there was nobody in line here. I asked the "lady" behind the counter and she said she couldn't help me because it's for gold members only. I said there's nobody here and the other line is eternity long. TOO Bad. Then I said, well I'll just sign up to be a gold member then, and she said first time gold members have to go to the main counter. So we waited in line until shift change at 6 pm, then the nice employee escorted the entire line up to the Gold member only booth! The lady there promptly got up and left, leaving only one employee left to service everyone. We waited for another 30 minutes, only to find out after checkout that none of the cars are at this location, they'll have to have someone from another location drive them over for all 20+ reservations that have already been waiting for almost 2 hours! The 3rd employee who ended up checking in most of the line, was super rude to everyone, forcing those who already paid to wait outside in the heat, including a 79 year old man with cancer. As I'm writing this the whole line had now checked out and paid, but we are still waiting for our cars! Over 2 hours now. Never again hertz! So much for our dinner plans.
Jun 22, 2023 · Cody BainSlow. No cars. (Had a reservation) in this day with all the tech there is no reason for any of this. You know exactly how many reservations there are. Had to go to multiple desks multiple terminals. This was embarrassing for them.
May 16, 2025 · matthew amundgaardHertz will run a credit check on you while you stand at the counter waiting for your car if you try to use your debit card to pay. They will literally turn you away if your credit isn’t good enough yet they charge a $500 deposit on debit card purchases. What a piece of trash company.
Mar 15, 2025 · Matthew GreenI love renting from Hertz! I travel extensively and always rely on Hertz because they’ve never let me down. I’ve tried other national brands in the past but got stranded when the vehicle I reserved wasn’t available, in multiple cases there were NO vehicles available!. I’m still unsure what the purpose of my reservation was! Anyway, my Hertz cars are always available, clean, and ready to go which is why they remain my go to car rental company.
