If this is how Hertz does business then you will have to do the most complete pre inspection EVER! You will most likely be charged for “damage” that is beyond belief. I’m including pictures of the “damage” I was charged over $450 for on a wheel after the very odd, overly meticulous return inspection. I have rented cars many times and this was just strange. It’s just a way to get more money out of your pocket. I will NEVER rent from Hertz again. Horrendous customer service, Hertz definitely missed the mark and never even cared to follow up. I have asked Hertz multiple times from e-mails to phone calls to links from their app to simply review the incident and was never contacted. I was a “gold member” which basically means nothing. Hertz will never get my business again and now you can decide…just pay their significant fees to max out the damage coverage because there is a really good chance you’ll be hit for some kind of “damage” when you return the vehicle. Better yet, rent elsewhere, I know I will! Safe travels!

First, I found myself walking throughout the rental area looking for the 3 locations of the car options. It was dusk, not easy to read the stall numbers and two employees were sitting in the office with their feet up at 5:45pm on a Sunday evening. Frustrating. Also, the front passenger seat was unusable. At the time of rental, I assumed that I merely needed to manually adjust it. However, after I was off premises and 15 minutes away, it was immovable. No note was left in the car or I would have changed it. The purpose of renting a 4 door sedan was to accommodate clients. Lastly, every number I tried to call to speak to a human being ended up with me being directed to the website with no option to offer this feedback live. Congratulations Hertz for making it easy to not even both calling you the next time.

I confirmed with an agent on the phone and they stated they do not have a policy about damaged license, only if the license is valid

I debated two or three but landed on three because I know it will attract attention at the Corporate office.On July 7, 2021, I rented a car from Hertz at the Portland Airport. On Sunday, July 11, I had a flat tire driving north from Seattle on the I-5 towards Portland. I accept a flat tire could happen to anyone, anywhere. What is unacceptable to me is the lack of response from the Hertz 1-800 Roadside Assistance line.I waited for over 45 minutes for someone to answer this 1-800 phone line as 18-wheelers were zooming past me and my Hertz rental car.Eventually, I gave up in frustration and called a local company - Nisqually Towing Service. Remarkably, they answered my call immediately. Within 30 minutes of my call, the tire was changed. I paid $63.72. Talk about customer service!Unfortunately, the spare tire would not allow me to complete my journey back to Portland, Oregon. It was Sunday and the local tire repair shops were now closed. As a result, I had to stay the night in a hotel. Because the Nisqually, Washington area is a little unsafe for single women, I drove into the town of Lacey and stayed last minute at the Best Western Lacey Inn & Suites. This stay cost me $172.43.The next morning, I drove to the local Les Schwab. I waited 1.5 hours for the tire to be repaired. Thankfully, I was not charged for the tire repair.Because of Hertz service issues, I lost a full day of my vacation. I was also unable to use the Hertz rental car as I'd intended which cost me approximately $75. Of course, I'm a Canadian tourist so you can add an additional 25% charge to these costs to reflect the exchange rate between our two currencies. This makes my total charges $311.15 USD or $388.94 CAD.I am attaching copies of the receipts for the charges I incurred due to the lack of service from the Hertz Roadside Assistance Program. I am hopeful Hertz will reimburse me for these unanticipated costs.NB: This letter was emailed to the Hertz Director of Customer Service at Portland Airport on July 16, 2021. To date, I have received no response.I would hope that a Fortune 500 company and a company ranked #1 for customer service by J.D. Power might make it a policy to respond to customer complaints. I know I certainly did when I worked in customer service.
