LAX Rental Car Center Introduce
For anyone navigating the vast and dynamic Southern California landscape, particularly those arriving or departing from the bustling Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), securing reliable transportation is often a primary concern. The LAX Rental Car Center (often referred to as the ConRAC, or Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility) represents a significant modernization effort designed to streamline the car rental experience for millions of travelers each year. Located at 5251 W 98th St, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA, this facility centralizes numerous rental car operations into one convenient location.
The LAX Rental Car Center is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility intended to improve efficiency and reduce traffic congestion around the airport’s Central Terminal Area (CTA). By bringing multiple rental car companies under one roof, it aims to eliminate thousands of daily shuttle trips that previously contributed to traffic, making the entire process of picking up and returning a rental vehicle more efficient. While it’s a relatively new addition to the LAX infrastructure and still undergoing optimization, its long-term goal is to provide a seamless and improved experience for locals and visitors alike.
The LAX Rental Car Center is strategically located at 5251 W 98th St, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA. This address places it adjacent to the I-405 freeway, a major north-south artery in Los Angeles, ensuring relatively easy access for those driving from various parts of Southern California.
For airport users, accessing the ConRAC from the LAX terminals involves a dedicated shuttle service. Previously, individual rental car companies operated their own shuttles from the terminals. With the ConRAC, a unified shuttle system transports customers from the airport terminals directly to the facility. Passengers arriving at LAX should look for signage directing them to the "Rental Car Shuttles" pick-up points on the Lower/Arrivals level. These shuttles are designed to be frequent and efficient, although as with any major airport operation, peak times can experience longer wait periods.
Once the Automated People Mover (APM) train system is fully operational, the ConRAC facility will serve as the easternmost stop on this direct connection, offering airport guests seamless, train-based travel between the terminals and the rental car options. This future integration promises to significantly enhance accessibility and further reduce reliance on shuttle buses, creating an even more streamlined experience.
It's important to note that the facility itself is quite large. As some customer reviews indicate, even once you arrive via shuttle, navigating within the multi-level building to reach specific rental counters can involve a fair amount of walking, potentially across different floors. Elevators are available to assist with vertical movement to the various levels where rental counters are located. Given the ongoing developments and the scale of the facility, planning a little extra time for pickup and drop-off, especially during busy periods, is a wise recommendation.
The LAX Rental Car Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, accommodating the continuous flow of flights and traveler needs at one of the world's busiest airports.
The LAX Rental Car Center, as a consolidated facility, hosts numerous major car rental companies under one roof, providing an extensive array of services. While each company within the center will have its specific offerings, the overall scope of services available to customers at the ConRAC includes:
- Wide Selection of Rental Companies: The facility accommodates a multitude of well-known rental car brands, including, but not limited to, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, Sixt, and Thrifty. This centralization allows customers to choose from a vast range of options and compare pricing conveniently.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: With multiple companies operating, customers have access to an incredibly diverse fleet of vehicles. This includes:
- Economy and Compact cars: Ideal for budget-conscious travelers and city driving.
- Sedans (Intermediate, Standard, Full-Size, Premium): Offering varying levels of comfort and space for everyday travel.
- SUVs (Small, Medium, Large, Premium): Suitable for families, groups, or those needing extra cargo space, perfect for exploring California’s diverse landscapes.
- Minivans and Passenger Vans: For larger groups, family vacations, or transporting significant luggage.
- Luxury and Specialty Vehicles: Including convertibles, sports cars, and premium sedans for those seeking a more upscale or unique driving experience in California.
- Electric Vehicles (EVs): With increasing availability, some rental companies offer EVs for environmentally conscious travelers.
- Online and Mobile App Reservations: All major rental companies operating at the ConRAC offer robust online platforms and mobile apps for advance booking, allowing customers to select their preferred vehicle type, review rates, and often expedite the pick-up process upon arrival.
- Loyalty Programs and Expedited Services: Many rental companies offer loyalty programs (e.g., Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, Avis Preferred, National Emerald Club) that allow members to bypass traditional counter lines, proceed directly to their vehicle, and earn rewards points. This is a significant time-saver, especially at a high-volume location like LAX.
- Additional Equipment and Protection Plans: Standard offerings across most companies include options to rent GPS navigation systems, child safety seats (infant, toddler, and booster), and various insurance or damage waiver plans (e.g., LDW, PAI, SLI).
- Quick Turn Around (QTA) Facilities: The ConRAC itself features integrated Quick Turn Around (QTA) areas, which allow for efficient vehicle maintenance such as fueling, washing, and light servicing directly within the facility. This helps ensure vehicles are clean and ready for the next renter.
- 24/7 Operations: While individual company counters may have specific staffed hours, the overall facility is designed for 24-hour operation, facilitating late-night or early-morning pickups and returns.
The LAX Rental Car Center stands out due to several key features and highlights, especially from the perspective of a local user:
- Centralized Convenience: The primary highlight is the consolidation of numerous rental agencies into one massive facility. This eliminates the confusion and scattered pick-up points of the past, simplifying the process of choosing and retrieving a rental car at LAX. For locals picking up family or friends, or returning from a trip, this single destination is a considerable improvement.
- Reduced Airport Traffic: By eliminating thousands of individual rental car shuttles from the Central Terminal Area, the ConRAC significantly contributes to reducing traffic congestion around the terminals. This benefits everyone using LAX, making arrivals and departures smoother.
- Future Automated People Mover (APM) Connection: The upcoming direct connection via the APM train will be a game-changer. This will provide a seamless, quick, and efficient transit option from the terminals to the ConRAC, further reducing reliance on shuttle buses and improving overall accessibility. This is a major highlight for future convenience.
- Sustainable Design: The ConRAC facility itself has been designed with sustainability in mind, having achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. Features include native drought-tolerant landscaping, reclaimed water usage, and a large solar farm, which contribute to a more environmentally friendly operation.
- Vast Parking Capacity: The facility boasts over 18,000 parking stalls, including dedicated ready/return spaces, idle vehicle storage, and employee parking. This massive capacity ensures that there are always vehicles available and ready to be rented, even during peak travel seasons.
- On-Site Vehicle Maintenance: The integrated Quick Turn Around (QTA) areas allow for efficient fueling, cleaning, and light maintenance of vehicles directly within the facility. This contributes to the quick turnaround of cars, ensuring they are prepared for the next customer efficiently.
While the vision and long-term benefits are substantial, it's also important to acknowledge initial operational challenges, as highlighted in customer reviews. Long lines, extended wait times, and some confusion about internal navigation within the large facility have been reported during the initial phases. These are often kinks being ironed out in a new, massive infrastructure project. Joining loyalty programs offered by the individual rental companies within the center is a highly recommended tip from experienced travelers to potentially bypass some of these waiting times.
As the LAX Rental Car Center is a consolidated facility housing multiple independent rental car companies, there isn't one single phone number for the entire center for reservations. Instead, you would contact the specific rental company you plan to use.
For general information about the LAX Rental Car Center facility, or for overall airport inquiries, you would typically refer to the LAX Airport website or general LAX customer service channels.

For contact details specific to individual rental companies operating at the ConRAC (e.g., Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, etc.), you would need to look up their respective phone numbers. For instance:
- Avis at LAX: +1 310-342-9200 (Note: Contact information for specific rental agencies may vary and is best confirmed via their official websites.)
- Hertz at LAX: +1 310-568-5100
- Enterprise at LAX: +1 833-679-2047
It is always recommended to check the official website of your chosen rental company or the LAX airport website for the most up-to-date contact information and operational procedures.
For residents of California, particularly those in the sprawling Los Angeles metropolitan area, the LAX Rental Car Center is an increasingly vital component of local and regional travel. While the initial phases of its operation have presented some challenges as kinks are ironed out, its long-term vision and purpose are highly suitable for the unique needs of Californians.
The centralization of rental car services at the ConRAC significantly streamlines the process for locals traveling out of or returning to LAX. Instead of navigating multiple, scattered off-airport locations and their respective shuttle systems, residents can now rely on a single, dedicated facility. This improved efficiency, especially with the impending full operation of the Automated People Mover, promises to save valuable time and reduce the logistical complexities associated with airport car rentals.
The wide array of rental companies housed within the center ensures that locals have competitive choices, whether they need an economy car for a quick weekend trip, a spacious SUV for a family vacation to a national park, or a premium vehicle for a business engagement. The facility’s round-the-clock operation also caters to the diverse schedules of Californians, accommodating early morning departures and late-night arrivals.
While planning for potential waits during peak periods and utilizing loyalty programs are wise strategies, the LAX Rental Car Center fundamentally improves the gateway experience for millions. For Californians who frequently fly, or those picking up and dropping off friends and family, this consolidated facility represents a significant step towards a more efficient, less congested, and ultimately more convenient car rental experience, making it an indispensable resource for exploring all that California has to offer.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This was a somewhat chaotic and long-winded experience. The lines were very long, the weights were very long, the building itself it was confusing as to where to find things, it took about 2 hours from getting off the bus to getting into my car. I already had a reservation and I'm not sure why it took this long. My understanding is that the cars were still getting prepped and this was part of the reason for the delay. To be fair there is a lot of new construction happening and not all the kinks have been ironed out. If using car service in the next 6 months to a year it will take longer to get your vehicle so plan wisely.
Jul 16, 2025 · ofelia elfakihIt's exactly what you expect from a car rental place... Long lines, long wait, under staffed. Do yourself a favor, join a loyalty program to avoid the lines. This facility took a play off of theme parks' playbook, they make you walk a lot to avoid having you stand in line even longer. The shuttle's drop off point is street-side, the counters are on the 5th floor towards the center of the building (yes, they have elevators).
Feb 01, 2025 · Luis DuckworthI rented from Budget on 5/30/2025 and it was literally the worst experience in my like. Right next to us was Avis, and it looked exactly the same. The long lines and under staffed companies was not an isolated issue to Budget, it’s ALL of them. I had my travel companion check Hertz and one other car rental (I think it was Enterprise) that are in the same complex and the situation was the same. I waited in line 1:45 minutes to get a car o had already reserved 2 months ago. The type of car I had reserved was no longer available and they offered a much lower category which I did not accept. So it was literally adding insult to injury. Once on the car rental complex you are literally TRAPPED. You can’t get an uber to get out of there and returning to the airport and starting from scratch would mean another hour and if not more. It feels as if this is perfectly calculated by these companies to trap you there, giving you not much choice but to accept their inefficiency. I don’t recommend anyone to get a car at LAX. Get yourself to your hotel in a taxi or uber and then look for a car rental place near your hotel. I found three near my hotel in Santa Monica. No lines. In the end, this was a HORRIBLE experience that I don’t wish upon anyone. Sadly, while we endure their inefficient service and system, the executive suite at Budget is enjoying their annual bonus for making lots of money. SHANE IN YIU BUDGET!! never again from my end! And I will steer as many people away from you as I can.
