The car I rented was clean and ready to go. Everything was easy and affordable. When we returned the car, the gentlemen greeting us were friendly and smiley. Overall, it was a great experience. I use National Car Rental for business and can't imagine using another company.

The employee in question, later identified as Kim displayed a complete lack of customer service, empathy, integrity, and honesty. She showed no willingness to assist and made it clear she was uninterested in helping resolve even the simplest requests.I asked if I could pay to upgrade to an SUV, she flatly said none were available. Yet just two minutes later, her coworker offered the very next customer a free upgrade, right in front of me. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, Kim was quick to suggest that I simply cancel my reservation a response that was both unprofessional and dismissive.When I requested her name, she refused to provide it, directing me instead to the employee ID (E62DDX) printed on the back of my receipt. I then asked her coworker for her name, but they also refused, which led me to believe they were either intimidated by her or instructed not to disclose it. It wasn’t until later that I found out her name is Kim.She did, however, quickly hand me her manager James Armell’s business card, yet still refused to share her own name, further underscoring her lack of accountability.National, I strongly urge you to provide basic customer service training to this employees and to enforce a policy requiring all staff to wear visible name badges. Front-line employees represent your brand to the public and in this case, the representation was abysmal.

Enterprise is slightly different, in that they select cars from a very limited inventory to give you; you don’t get to go see them all and pick what you want, like the Emerald Isle.I’m not too fond of these small airport National locations where you have to go to a desk (something else I absolutely hate) and check in and finish the transaction where they give you a key and ask if you’re OK with the vehicle they selected.On this visit, the vehicle they offered was nice, it was an Audi. But the last time I used a counter like this (at a different airport, nearby) I got a vehicle I never would have chosen from the Emerald Isle, so this doesn’t always work well. My gripe on this visit was when I got to the counter to get a car, there were three ladies working and one of them was helping a customer. The other two were typing on the computer in front of them. I had to wait for the one helping a customer to finish and then she took me. Immediately after, another customer walks up and one of the other ladies stopped what she was doing and took him. She also recognized his Executive Elite status… I’m Executive Elite too, but no one said anything about that to me? (this goes towards inconsistent management which means poor training and management)Ultimately, I got my car and left.When I returned, there was no one outside to check me in. I saw a sign that said take the keys inside and remember what spot you parked in – This is a horrible way to check in cars! So, I did just that. Got to the same counter inside where I checked the car out two days prior and there were the same three ladies working the counter. I stood there and waited while 2 were on the phone. After waiting a few mins and none of them looking up to see me standing there, I interrupted what they were doing to ask what I was supposed to do. One commented that some guy was supposed to be outside to check me in, but clearly he wasn’t. She took my keys and said they’d send the email.I stressed the elaborate review to say this is quite the opposite of what makes National so great with the Emerald Isle at larger airports. They could very easily do the same style here or at least offer much better customer service than they do. I wish they would because selecting National at these smaller airports is no different, nor better than simply going with Avis or Budget.
