Initially, I couldn’t find signage indicating where to line up for my Payless car, which was cheaper than equivalent Budget or Avis options. Frustrated by the reviews, I booked a Budget car while waiting. Upon arrival at the front of the line, I realized the same representative handles Avis, Budget, and Payless cars, and they seem to encourage customers to book other agencies for higher prices. Don’t do it! Demand the Payless car. The Payless option is not slower or longer; it’s just the same representative and cars for a lower price, with incentives to make it seem inconvenient.Also, and unrelated, this car rental place tries to upsell on car insurance. If you have California coverage, insist you have adequate coverage and decline insurance to get the online rate. The agent initially offered minimum coverage, which I agreed to. However, she still added an “add-on” for minimum coverage, which is overpriced if you have appropriate insurance and a credit card that covers the deductible. I had to demand the online price before she relented.

May 16, 2025 · David NgaiLAX Payless - The agents do not bother to explain the agreement, I picked up the car post 1 AM and was too tired to ask questions. On return I filled up the gas but was charged 86 as Gas fee cause apparently I signed an agreement which said I will prepay for the gas. I was not asked or given options and as I have done several times earlier filled up the gas before return. I called the customer service but they cannot do anything cause I signed the agreement without reading it. Please stay away for these places who dont bother to explain customer about any additional charges that may be incurred at a later time. I'm sure they do this intentionally.
Jul 07, 2025 · N DWe had a rental scheduled for pickup at 10 am, we didn't get here until 1040 due to the shuttle taking so long, they only had one going. The shuttle driver was the only good thing about this entire company, she was dealing with a lot and she did it with grace but firmly.When we got to the desk no one was there. I called and the customer service said they would be there in 10 minutes, thanks for calling. We waited, but this time there were several of us. 10 minutes passed and I called again because no one showed up, the second person I spoke to said I needed to call Payless care, even though I had called a Payless number already. I called the number she provided and it was a fax number. I called a third time and this person said I needed to go to the avis desk, that maybe the Payless people were at lunch. We are still in line and have been here for over an hour already. I would never recommend budget, avis or Payless at the LAX location unless you enjoy frustration and long hours standing in line.
May 16, 2025 · christaIt took us 2 hours of waiting in line before we could get our rental.... Budget, Avis, & Payless are all handled by a single zig-zagging line. They have 53 stations available but at some points only had 1 employee and at most 3 or 4 and a line of over 50 customers. Our reservation was for 11pm but even late at night, they have to be aware of how many people have made reservations, so even at peak times of the year, it's just simple math to add more staff. I would not recommend and will not use again.
