Rent-A-Wreck Introduce
For residents across Indiana, having accessible and affordable transportation is often a top priority, whether for daily commutes, weekend excursions, or essential errands. While many national chains offer car rental services, local options like Rent-A-Wreck in Hammond, IN, cater to a specific need: providing budget-friendly vehicle solutions. Known for its focus on offering economical rates, Rent-A-Wreck aims to be a practical choice for those in Indiana looking for reliable transportation without the premium price tag. This establishment in Hammond strives to serve the local community, understanding that sometimes, what you need is simply a dependable car to get from point A to point B, without unnecessary frills or excessive costs.
The Rent-A-Wreck branch in Hammond, Indiana, is conveniently located at 7315 Kennedy Ave, Hammond, IN 46323, USA. This address places it within easy reach for many residents in Hammond and the surrounding areas of Northwest Indiana. Hammond itself is a well-established city with good road connectivity, making the branch accessible by car from various parts of the region. Being situated on Kennedy Avenue, a significant local thoroughfare, means that finding the location and navigating to and from it is generally straightforward. For Indiana locals in the area, this offers a practical alternative to traveling to more distant rental hubs, potentially saving time and fuel. While public transportation options in the immediate vicinity might vary, the primary mode of access for car rental customers is typically by personal vehicle or rideshare services to and from the branch. The ease of access helps position Rent-A-Wreck as a viable local solution for temporary vehicle needs.
Rent-A-Wreck distinguishes itself by providing car rental services that prioritize value and practicality. While their name playfully suggests older vehicles, their core offering is focused on providing clean, well-maintained, and safety-inspected cars at affordable rates.
- Diverse Vehicle Categories: Rent-A-Wreck typically offers a range of vehicle types, including economy, compact, mid-size, and full-size cars. Depending on the location's specific fleet, they may also offer SUVs, minivans, or even trucks, catering to various individual or family needs.
- Flexible Rental Periods: They provide options for short-term rentals (daily, weekly) and potentially longer-term arrangements, offering flexibility for customers with varying durations of need.
- Affordable Rates: Their business model centers on competitive pricing, often positioning them as a more budget-friendly alternative to larger, newer car rental companies. This can be particularly appealing to individuals or families looking to minimize transportation costs.
- Acceptance of Various Payment Methods: While specific policies can vary by franchise, some Rent-A-Wreck locations may offer options for cash customers or those without traditional credit cards, a flexibility not always available at larger rental agencies. It's always advisable to confirm payment policies directly with the Hammond branch.
Rent-A-Wreck has built its brand around specific features that appeal to a segment of the car rental market seeking value and straightforward service.
- Emphasis on Value: The primary highlight is the focus on providing "low-cost rentals" and "affordable rates." This makes them an attractive option for budget-conscious individuals or those who simply need a functional vehicle without paying for the latest model or luxury features.
- "Used Car" Rental Model: Unlike typical rental agencies that primarily lease new vehicles, Rent-A-Wreck specializes in renting previously owned cars. This allows them to offer lower prices while ensuring their fleet is "clean, well maintained, and safety inspected."
- Local Presence and "Mom and Pop" Feel: Many customers appreciate the "mom and pop feel" of Rent-A-Wreck locations, suggesting a more personal and less corporate experience. This can translate to more direct interactions and potentially greater flexibility.
- Suitable for Extended Use/High Mileage Needs: For Indiana locals who might need a car for an extended period, or for those who anticipate accumulating higher mileage, Rent-A-Wreck's pricing structure can be more advantageous compared to companies with strict mileage limits or higher per-mile charges.
It is important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary. While the aim is to provide reliable, affordable service, some reviews indicate challenges, such as discrepancies in vehicle availability (e.g., not having a reserved car type) or operational hours not matching online listings. For instance, a review noted that despite the map showing Sunday hours, the location was closed. Another review mentioned receiving a different vehicle than reserved and encountering service lights, alongside concerns about pricing compared to other providers. This highlights the importance of direct communication with the Hammond branch to confirm vehicle availability, pricing, and operating hours, particularly for specific needs or during busy periods.
For Indiana residents interested in learning more about vehicle availability, specific rental rates, or to make a reservation, directly contacting the Rent-A-Wreck Hammond branch is the best approach.

Jun 22, 2025 · Manuela MurosBy Far the best car rental experience in NWI. Fast and courteous and very professional. They got me into a rental for a really good value and treated me like a valued customer. I will definitely use this location for all my future rental needs.
Jul 08, 2023 · John MillerAbsolutely love this business! The fastest process ever for car rental and return was fast as well. I've rented two cars a week apart from each other and they were both clean and smelled fresh. The price for renting a car is the cheapest I've found. 10 an hour but 45 a day; one car I had for a week and the price was a little over 200 I believe. Deposit is 200 for credit card. 250 for debit card (YOU DO GET IT BACK ONCE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED BACK IN, BACK ON YOUR CARD). Because the cars are used (I believe Enterprise buys new cars to rent), if a customer hears anything out of the ordinary, call rent a wreck to let them know what you are hearing and they will switch out the vehicle for another (this happened to my parents and they were able to switch vehicles). I did not have to do that though because both vehicles I rented drove beautifully. Ray is so personable. If he does not already know (which I believe he does), I will keep renting vehicles from him and his establishment.
Aug 21, 2022 · Alexis DaggettI was forced to get a rental from Enterprise last week. A HORRIBLE experience. When I found Rent-A-Wreck, I was hesitant at first. Once I gave them a call, it was the best decision I ever made. No hassle at all. I was able to rent a reliable vehicle that addressed all my needs. The service was awesome and I recommend their business to anyone needing a rental car. Thanks again!
