For many New Yorkers, particularly our senior residents and those with mobility challenges in Mount Vernon and across Westchester County, reliable and compassionate transportation is not just a convenience, but a critical link to healthcare, family, and community. Standard taxi services or ride-shares often fall short when specialized assistance, wheelchair accessibility, or even stretcher transport is required. This is where companies like Take Good Care Transportation come into play, aiming to bridge that gap by providing dedicated non-emergency medical transportation services. This article offers an in-depth look at what Take Good Care Transportation provides for our local New York community.
Take Good Care Transportation, based in Mount Vernon, NY, is a specialized transportation service primarily focused on assisting seniors and individuals with mobility limitations. They are not a conventional car rental company where you pick up and drive a vehicle yourself. Instead, they provide chauffeured services with vehicles equipped to handle specific needs, such as wheelchair transport and, in some cases, stretcher or gurney transport. Their mission, as suggested by their name and positive reviews, is to provide care and compassion in transit, ensuring clients reach their destinations safely and comfortably. This includes transport to medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, and possibly even social engagements where special assistance is required.
Take Good Care Transportation is located at 32 N 9th Ave, Mt Vernon, NY 10550, USA. This address places them within the vibrant community of Mount Vernon, a city in Westchester County bordering The Bronx. North 9th Avenue is a local street, and while the physical office might be their operational base, their services extend far beyond this immediate vicinity.
For clients in New York, particularly those in Westchester, The Bronx, and potentially other boroughs, their accessibility is defined by their service area and dispatch capabilities. Their location in Mount Vernon allows for relatively efficient access to major roadways, facilitating transportation across the greater New York metropolitan area to various hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and residential addresses. For seniors and individuals with mobility impairments, the crucial aspect of accessibility is the pick-up and drop-off service directly from their residence or facility, ensuring a convenient and assisted transition into the vehicle.
Take Good Care Transportation aims to provide a range of non-emergency medical and specialized transport services:
Wheelchair Transportation: A primary service catering to individuals who use wheelchairs. Their vehicles are equipped to safely load and secure wheelchairs, ensuring a comfortable ride. Drivers are trained to assist clients in and out of the vehicles.
Two-Person Assist Transport: For clients who require more extensive physical assistance, such as being carried up and down stairs, they offer a two-person assist service. This is particularly beneficial for seniors or those with severe mobility challenges residing in multi-level homes.
Non-Emergency Medical Appointments: They provide transportation to and from various medical facilities, including doctor's offices, clinics, dialysis centers, physical therapy sessions, and hospital discharges. Punctuality for these appointments is a key component of their service.
Stretcher/Gurney Transport (with caveats): While advertised and historically offered, recent customer feedback indicates potential inconsistencies with stretcher/gurney transport availability, particularly for Medicaid-routed trips. It is crucial to confirm availability and policy for this specific service well in advance and to double-check directly with the company and, if applicable, Medicaid, to avoid last-minute issues.
Compassionate Senior Care: Many reviews highlight the kind, courteous, and compassionate nature of their transport men, especially towards seniors. This indicates a focus on providing not just a ride, but a caring experience, which is highly valued by elderly clients and their families.
Medicaid Acceptance (with potential considerations): Take Good Care Transportation does work with Medicaid, facilitating transport for eligible individuals. However, as noted in a review, communication regarding Medicaid-routed trips and specific service availability (like stretcher transport) requires diligent confirmation from the client's side to ensure seamless service.
Take Good Care Transportation boasts several features that aim to make it a preferred choice for specialized transport, though some areas warrant careful attention from clients:
Compassionate and Caring Staff: A significant highlight, repeatedly mentioned in positive reviews, is the genuinely kind, courteous, and compassionate demeanor of the transport staff. Their evident "love and compassion for seniors" is a strong point, providing comfort and reassurance to clients and their families.
Dedicated Assistance: The availability of two-person assist for clients needing help with stairs demonstrates a commitment to comprehensive door-to-door service, addressing a critical need for many mobility-challenged individuals.
Reliability (for certain services): For standard wheelchair transportation, past experiences suggest a history of reliability. Clients have relied on them for consistent service over extended periods.
Professional Conduct: When the service operates smoothly, the transport men are described as professional, contributing to a pleasant experience. Special shout-outs to individuals like "Roy and Christina" underscore the positive impact of dedicated staff.
Importance of Direct Confirmation for Critical Services: While their core service is valuable, it is crucial for clients, especially those requiring stretcher transport or relying on Medicaid, to actively confirm all details, particularly closer to the scheduled time. Discrepancies in information regarding availability or rerouting for critical services have been noted, highlighting the need for proactive client verification.
Communication Protocol: Instances of early arrivals without warning or conflicting information regarding booking confirmations suggest that while staff are often kind, the internal communication or scheduling system might sometimes lead to unexpected situations. Clear communication from the company regarding any changes or requirements (e.g., reconfirmation protocols) would enhance the customer experience.
To arrange transportation, inquire about services, or confirm booking details, you can contact Take Good Care Transportation using the following information:
Address: 32 N 9th Ave, Mt Vernon, NY 10550, USA
Phone: (914) 699-4600
Mobile Phone: +1 914-699-4600
When contacting, it is highly advisable to be specific about your needs, including the type of assistance required (e.g., wheelchair, two-person assist, stretcher), any mobility limitations, and payment method (e.g., Medicaid). Confirming pick-up times and any reconfirmation policies directly with the company is recommended, especially for critical medical appointments.
For New Yorkers, particularly seniors and individuals with mobility challenges in Mount Vernon, Westchester, and surrounding areas, Take Good Care Transportation offers an essential and often compassionate service. Its suitability for locals lies in its specialized focus on non-emergency medical transportation, providing the necessary vehicles and trained personnel to assist those who cannot utilize standard transport options. The glowing testimonials about the kindness, courtesy, and genuine compassion of their transport staff, especially toward seniors, highlight a crucial human element often missing in larger, more impersonal services. This level of personalized care is invaluable for families seeking safe and respectful transport for their loved ones.
While the company excels in its empathetic approach and typically reliable wheelchair transport, locals utilizing more complex services like stretcher transport, or those whose trips are routed through Medicaid, should exercise diligence in confirming all details directly with the company and, if applicable, their insurance provider. Proactive communication can mitigate potential issues related to scheduling or service availability. Despite occasional operational hiccups that may arise in any service industry, Take Good Care Transportation fills a vital need in our community, ensuring that vulnerable individuals can access the care they need with dignity and a supportive hand. For compassionate and dedicated non-emergency medical transport, they remain a significant resource for New Yorkers.

Apr 30, 2025 · Princess⭐☆☆☆☆ – Deeply Disappointed After Years of TrustI’m giving Take Good Care Transportation one star only because, in the past, their wheelchair transportation service has been reliable. Unfortunately, my recent experience was completely unacceptable and has left me extremely disappointed. My elderly mother had a surgery scheduled in NYC and required gurney/stretcher transport, which we arranged in advance. My sister even called the day before to confirm, and was told everything was good to go.Day of the surgery — no one showed up. I called to find out what was going on, and was told that Medicaid had re-routed the trip to another provider. That didn’t sound right, so I called Medicaid directly. They confirmed they never re-route scheduled trips, and their records showed that Take Good Care had canceled because they didn’t have a stretcher available. This was shocking, since just the day before they told us everything was confirmed. Then when we called back, we were told we should have called three days in advance to reconfirm — which makes no sense, especially since it was already confirmed the day before. It feels like they either don’t have an organized system, or they’re choosing to prioritize patients who pay out of pocket over those using Medicaid — which is incredibly unfair and unethical. This mistake nearly cost my mother her surgery and caused a great deal of stress for our entire family. I used to trust this company, but after this experience, I can no longer recommend them — especially for stretcher transport or anything critical.Wheelchair rides? Fine. But if the need is urgent or medical in nature, I strongly suggest finding another provider.
Apr 18, 2025 · jessica artusTake Good Care transportation is the worst transport company I've ever used for the many years I've been disabled and had to utilize ambulance transportation. I used their service on two different appointments and both times they were extremely rude and unprofessional. On my second appointment that I used this company they transferred me from the stretcher to my wheelchair in my home with a bundle of sheets and blankets underneath me that they refused to remove after I asked them 'can we take these sheets and blankets out from underneath me'. They told me that was being disrespectful the way I asked him and that he was not responsible for removing their sheets and stuff from under the patient. They then walked out of my house leaving me hanging out of my wheelchair. My home health aide had to call 911 to have rescue people come and cut the blankets and sheets out from underneath me and from being wrapped around the wheels of my wheelchair. I was very lucky that I didn't land on the floor or else these people would have had a massive lawsuit against them. They were also very rude to my home healthy who is an older gentleman and was having a little difficulty getting into the back door of the van. They told my aide 'let's go get in the van already'I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW NEW YORK STATE IS LICENSING THEM TO TRANSPORT PEOPLE WITH THE WAY THIS COMPANY OPERATES!!!I would never ever recommend this company to anybody else and I would highly suggest to anybody that uses them be very, very careful to protect your safety because of this company's unprofessionalism.I gave them a one star reading because that was the lowest I could give them to write this review.
