This article is designed specifically for you, our local users, to provide a clear, engaging, and informative guide to "Terminal 2 Rental Car Return." While not a car rental company itself, this facility is an integral part of your airport travel experience, serving multiple rental agencies that operate out of MSP's Terminal 2. We’ll explore its location, accessibility, and the typical procedures involved, ensuring you feel confident and prepared for your next car return at our bustling international airport.
The "Terminal 2 Rental Car Return" refers to the dedicated area within Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport where customers return vehicles rented from various car rental agencies that serve the Humphrey Terminal (Terminal 2). MSP Airport is a vital transportation hub for Minnesota, connecting us to destinations across the country and the world. To streamline the rental process, the airport has consolidated rental car operations, with specific areas for pick-up and return for each terminal. The Terminal 2 return facility is designed to be efficient and user-friendly, accommodating the unique needs of travelers departing from this terminal, which typically hosts airlines such as Allegiant, Condor, Frontier, Icelandair, JetBlue, Southwest, and Sun Country Airlines. While individual rental car companies, such as Enterprise, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, Payless, Sixt, and Thrifty, each have their own counters and procedures, the physical return of the vehicle at Terminal 2 often follows a common logistical flow. This article will focus on the practical aspects of dropping off your vehicle at this key airport location, ensuring you understand the process and can navigate it with ease, allowing you to quickly proceed to your gate.
The Terminal 2 Rental Car Return facility is strategically located at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, making it highly accessible for those departing from Terminal 2. The address provided, St Paul, MN 55111, USA, broadly covers the airport's consolidated rental car area. More specifically, for Terminal 2, the rental car counters and vehicle pick-up/drop-off areas are typically situated within or directly adjacent to the Ground Transportation Center on the ground level of the Purple Ramp, which is conveniently located across from the terminal building itself. This close proximity means that, unlike Terminal 1 which often requires a tram ride to the rental car facility, travelers returning a car to Terminal 2 can frequently access the check-in counters and the terminal via a short walk. Clear signage throughout the airport grounds directs drivers to "Rental Car Return" specifically for Terminal 2, guiding them seamlessly into the correct lanes and parking areas. For Minnesotans driving to the airport, the facility is easily reached via major roadways like I-494 and various state highways leading directly to the airport complex. Once you enter the airport grounds, simply follow the well-marked signs for "Terminal 2" and then "Rental Car Return." This direct accessibility aims to minimize stress and maximize efficiency during your departure process.
While "Terminal 2 Rental Car Return" isn't a rental company that offers a list of services in the traditional sense, it provides the essential logistical services required for a smooth vehicle drop-off at MSP Airport. These are the general processes and facilities you can expect:
- Designated Return Lanes: The facility features clearly marked lanes for different car rental companies, ensuring you drive into the correct area for your specific rental provider. This organized layout helps to expedite the return process, even during busy periods.
- Vehicle Inspection Area: Upon entering the return lanes, staff (during operational hours) or automated systems are in place to quickly inspect the vehicle for any new damage, note mileage, and check fuel levels. This process is generally efficient and designed to be completed swiftly.
- Key Drop-off Procedures: For returns outside of regular business hours, the facility is well-lit and equipped with clear instructions for after-hours key drop-off. This often involves leaving the keys in the vehicle as directed by signage, or utilizing a secure drop box at the counter of the respective rental company. One review mentions the presence of "spikes behind when you enter," which are likely one-way tire spikes to prevent unauthorized exit, ensuring vehicle security after hours.
- Access to Terminal 2: Once the car is returned, the facility offers direct or very short walking access to Terminal 2, allowing travelers to quickly proceed to check-in, security, and their gates. This eliminates the need for additional shuttles between the return area and the terminal building itself.
- Signage and Lighting: The facility is designed with clear and abundant signage to guide renters through the return process, even for those who might feel they are "going in circles" due to airport construction. It is also clearly lit, which is crucial for early morning or late-night returns, as highlighted by a customer review.
- Availability for All Terminal 2 Rental Companies: This facility serves as the common return point for all major car rental agencies that have a presence at MSP's Terminal 2, providing a centralized and consistent drop-off experience.
The "Terminal 2 Rental Car Return" at MSP Airport offers several key features and highlights that are particularly relevant to travelers, especially Minnesotans familiar with the airport's layout:
- Direct Proximity to Terminal 2: A major highlight is the physical closeness to the Humphrey Terminal. This means less time spent on shuttles or trams compared to some other airport rental facilities, allowing for a quicker transition from vehicle to gate.
- 24/7 Return Capability: The facility is typically set up for 24-hour returns, offering flexibility for early morning flights or late-night arrivals. Clear instructions for key drop-off are provided for unstaffed hours, which one reviewer found "simple" and reassuring.
- User-Friendly Design: Despite ongoing airport developments, the return area is generally well-lit and equipped with clear signs, helping renters navigate the process efficiently. This thoughtful design contributes to a less stressful return experience.
- Efficient Drop-off Process: When procedures are followed, the actual act of dropping off the car, including the quick check-in and key handling, is designed to be fast and straightforward, a positive experience for many.
- Security Measures: Features like one-way tire spikes are in place to enhance vehicle security, preventing unauthorized removal after keys are left in the car, which addresses potential concerns about leaving a vehicle unattended.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1After reading previous reviews online about terminal 2 pick up and return I was a bit apprehensive. However, I was pleasantly surprised. After you depart from your flight I would suggest going straight to pickup b/c theblines get long. You can scan the arcade while waiting for your car to hopefully make the process quicker. I waited inline about 1/2 hour.Upon return, I put in terminal 2 in my GPS and it took me right to where I needed to be despite all the construction everywhere it seems as tho you're going in circles but it's the way. I had to check my car in at 4am and knew there would be no staff, it's clearly lit and the signs are clear. LEAVE KEYS in the car. Simple. There is no way somebody could back out and take off because there were the spikes behind when you enter. All in all a great experience and would definitely rent at terminal 2 again.
Aug 20, 2024 · Barbara WOWThe fact you have to shuttle back to the main terminal on a city tram is scary. When we got on the tram there were clearly homeless people and drug addicts riding and the smell was just As you can imagine. I will go back to renting cars off site and shuttle to the lot rather then ever riding that tram again. It's also very confusing on where to go and how to return your car. You literally leave the keys in it and walk away no staff to be found. Who's to say any person could walk up and do something or cause damage especially with the things I mentioned first. Made the end of this trip to MN very uncomfortable as we are carrying all of our possessions and cash and it just isn't a good setting
Mar 11, 2025 · Jennifer FinleyShuttle lines to and from the airport were long and there weren't as many shuttles compared to the previous months Then you have to wait for the counter service. Quality of rental car was not as good as previous weeks/months.
Apr 06, 2025 · Miss KWhen we arrived there was only one girl there to wait on 5 groups. They couldn't find a van for a family ahead of us and she had to leave the desk to help find one, leaving the other 4 groups with no one to help them. This girl was doing her best and she kept her composure and was very friendly. I blame Hertz for not having enough help to take care of their customers. With that said when we returned the car everything went great.
