Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport is located at 156 Tomahawk Dr, Boston, MA 02128, USA. This address places it within the consolidated Rental Car Center (RCC) that serves all major car rental agencies at Logan Airport. This is a highly strategic location, designed for maximum convenience for air travelers arriving at or departing from BOS.
For Massachusetts residents, accessing this location is streamlined, especially if traveling to or from the airport. All terminals at Logan International Airport provide complimentary blue-and-white shuttle buses that transport customers directly to the Rental Car Center. This eliminates the need for navigating city traffic directly after a flight or having to find alternative transportation to an off-airport location. While 156 Tomahawk Drive is the physical address, the primary access point for customers will be via these airport shuttles to the RCC. For locals who are not flying, reaching the airport area via the MBTA Blue Line (Airport Station) and then utilizing the shuttle bus service is a viable option, ensuring good public transit connectivity to this car rental hub.
As a well-known national car rental brand operating at a major international airport, Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport offers a comprehensive range of services and vehicle options. While specific inventory can vary, customers can generally expect:
- A Diverse Fleet of Vehicles: Thrifty typically provides various car classes, including economy cars (e.g., Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Spark) for budget-conscious travel, compact and midsize cars (e.g., Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prius) for general purposes, full-size sedans (e.g., Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu) for comfort, and a selection of SUVs (e.g., Nissan Pathfinder, Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Kicks, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, Chevrolet Bolt EUV) for families or those needing more space. They also offer minivans and sometimes "Special" or "Supplier's Choice" categories. Electric vehicles (EVs) are also available, including intermediate SUVs, compact cars, or EV supplier's choice.
- Flexible Rental Durations: Options for daily, weekly, and longer-term monthly rentals are available to accommodate various travel itineraries.
- Insurance and Protection Plans: Customers can choose from various supplemental protection products, such as Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) to limit liability for vehicle damage, Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC). Renters are always encouraged to verify coverage with their personal auto insurance and credit card companies.
- Optional Add-ons: Common amenities like GPS navigation systems, child safety seats (infant, toddler, and booster), and PlatePass® All-Inclusive Tolling (essential for cashless tolls in Massachusetts) are typically available for an additional fee. SiriusXM® satellite radio is also an option.
- Fuel Options: Renters usually have choices for managing fuel, including returning the car with a full tank, pre-paying for a full tank, or allowing Thrifty to refuel (often with a service charge). For EVs, customers are generally required to return the car with a similar battery charge level to pick-up, often around 80%, though a recharging add-on might be offered.
- Blue Chip Express Rewards Program: A loyalty program designed to expedite the rental process, potentially allowing members to skip the counter and go directly to their vehicle at eligible locations.
- Roadside Assistance: Basic roadside assistance for unexpected issues like flat tires, lockouts, or mechanical breakdowns during the rental period.
- One-Way Rentals: The ability to pick up a vehicle at Logan Airport and return it to another Thrifty branch, either within Massachusetts or in another state, offers flexibility for diverse travel plans.
Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport offers several features and highlights that can be appealing to Massachusetts locals, alongside important considerations drawn from customer feedback:
- Direct Airport Access: Being part of the Logan Airport Rental Car Center is a major highlight. This means easy shuttle access from all terminals, making it highly convenient for those flying into or out of Massachusetts, reducing the stress of ground transportation.
- Competitive Pricing: Thrifty is often positioned as a more budget-friendly option among airport rental providers, which can be a significant draw for cost-conscious renters in Massachusetts.
- Diverse Fleet, Including EVs: The availability of a wide range of vehicles, including various SUVs, minivans, and especially electric vehicles (EVs), caters to different travel needs and preferences. For environmentally conscious drivers or those with access to charging infrastructure, the EV option is a notable feature.
- Flexible Hours (with caveats): The location generally operates with extended hours (e.g., 6:00 AM - 1:30 AM most days), which can accommodate many flight schedules.
However, the provided customer reviews highlight significant areas for potential concern:
- Customer Service Issues: Multiple reviews describe "extremely poor," "horrible service," and "unprofessional" staff. Instances include rudeness, unhelpful attitudes (e.g., "and?" when a key was missing), and difficulty reaching the company by phone to resolve issues.
- Reservation Inaccuracies & Vehicle Availability: Customers reported situations where prepaid, reserved large vehicles were not available upon arrival, leading to downgrades to smaller cars (e.g., an Expedition to a minivan) without proper prior notification. This points to potential issues with inventory management and honoring reservations.
- Arbitrary Charges and Disputes: Complaints include being charged for fuel despite returning a full tank (requiring photographic proof to dispute) and arbitrary "cleaning fees" that were later proven incorrect. This suggests a need for renters to meticulously document vehicle condition and fuel levels at both pick-up and drop-off.
- Upselling and Hidden Fees: One review mentions being "badgered about upgrades" and incorrect billing, indicating potential pressure to purchase additional services or misapplication of charges.
- Vehicle Condition: Reports of a car "not make-ready for the next renter," with "Muddy floorboard and hair all over the backseat," suggest inconsistencies in vehicle cleanliness and preparation.
- Late Arrival Policy: The complaint about closing after booking a late arrival suggests a lack of flexibility or communication regarding after-hours pick-up, despite general extended hours. Note: Thrifty does not allow after-hours pick-ups between 1:30 AM and 6:00 AM.

For Massachusetts locals, Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport offers a conveniently located option for vehicle rentals, particularly when flying into or out of BOS. Its presence within the consolidated Rental Car Center, accessible via airport shuttles, makes it logistically straightforward for airport-related travel, avoiding the need for separate taxi rides or complex transit connections. The appeal of potentially competitive pricing and a diverse fleet, including environmentally friendly EV options, caters to a wide range of travel needs across the Commonwealth.
However, it is paramount for local users to approach this location with a high degree of vigilance and proactivity due to the recurring themes in customer reviews regarding inconsistent service, unfulfilled reservations, and billing disputes. While the location offers convenience, customers should meticulously document every aspect of their rental: confirm vehicle type and features upon arrival, thoroughly inspect the car for cleanliness and existing damage (taking photos/videos), verify fuel/battery levels, and scrutinize all charges on the rental agreement. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I think Thrifty should have a little more common sense than to close at the airport AFTER booking a rental they knew was a late arrival. Now we are expected to wait 5 hours after a 4 hour flight so we can drive an hour to our destination.Update: it would have been nice to have not been badgered about upgrades after going over 24 hrs without sleep. (We'll just tack on $300 to your rental and bill your card instead of the original account that you set up)Then, we get a car that was not make-ready for the next renter. Muddy floorboard and hair all over the backseat???I spent 26 years in a customer service field. This whole experience is unacceptable.
May 23, 2025 · Robert DavidoskiI rented a car this last week and returned the car with a completely full tank of gas and they charged me for an extra 1/4 tank of gas at $10.99 a gallon. I took pictures that are timestamped. I would be glad to send them to show it was full but they will not answer the phone. I'd be glad to change the review if they make this right but out of all cars I've rented in my life I have never had a company do this. BEWARE. FYI the auto reply response below to go to your support page was contacted prior to posting a review. Your company doesn't answer the phone. If you really would like to make this right, call me and fix this. You have my number RES L21500102C9.Update: they did make it right or at least said they would refund the additional fuel charge and service fee within 28 days. Review would have a better rating if the lady in the parking garage when picking up the car was more friendly and accommodating when the key was missing. When brought to her attention she said "and?" I had to advise I couldn't drive a car without a key.
May 23, 2025 · Isaac ReddingThe longest wait time for a rental car in my whole life so far, I understand people show up at the same time when the flights arrive, but that's the job of the manager to speed up the line. The whole experience was kind of like going to the DMV. The return process was quick, and I was told the receipt would be sent out by email. The extra star was from the assigned Hybrid rental car.
Jun 08, 2025 · Ex miuwu6-2025 Not recommended!!!We reserved an SUV from Thrifty via Expedia. I am a Blue Chip Express member and provided my number when booking. However with an Expedia reservation none of the benefits apply (extra driver, skip the counter). We were given a specific car with small dents and scratches. It was dirty and in poor condition inside and outside. When we requested a clean undamaged car we were told they didn’t have any available (despite a parking lot full add our willingness to take a smaller vehicle). When we turned on the ignition we discovered the gas tank was less than 3/4 full.We also discovered after the car sat in the sun with the windows closed for a while it smelled of smoke. We are thoroughly dissatisfied with the service and the car we received from Thrifty and will try not to rent from them again.(I responded to a thrifty survey the day after picking up the car and was sent a message that they would be in contact with me but of course did not hear from them at all during the week long rental).
Jun 15, 2025 · CatKThe line to get the car wasn't bad at all. The car looked a bit rough, but drove really well so no complaints there. Returning the car was no problem. Here are my two issues: (1) My daughter lost her purse at the building that houses all the Boston Logan rental cars, and there is absolutely no way to place a call to that desk. We called numerous times, were told to dial different numbers, they all disconnect. No one could give us a direct line to that desk. Every call goes to a call center and the only options they give you do not apply (i.e. Option 1 if your car is broken down, Option 2 if you are trying to rent a car, or what have you... NO option to just talk to someone at the service counter because you left something there). (2) After we dropped off the car, got our "final" receipt via email, and were asked to review the business (which I didn't), we got an email saying we were charged $74.95 for tolls because the transponder on the car said we went through tolls and didn't pay them. We never saw any tolls, never saw any toll booths, nothing. We drove from Boston to Cape Cod so it's possible there were tolls, but we never saw them so I'm not sure what to say. If we had a toll to pay, we would have gladly paid it rather than a $75 fee! Our credit card on file was automatically charged, and there is no way to contact Thrifty to dispute (or even ask about) the charge. I will dispute the charge with my credit card company since I honestly have no idea why we are being charged it. Beware.
