★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Horrible experience! We had a car booked for 11:00 AM on December 23. After checking out of the hotel, I left my wife and 9-month-old baby in the lobby and went to pick up the car at 10:30 AM. Upon arrival, I was informed that no car was available due to the holiday season. I ended up sitting there for over 3.5 hours waiting for a car. Our entire day’s plans were ruined. Is this your first Christmas? Was last year any different? How could you not anticipate overbooking during the holiday season? Taking as many orders as possible while knowing there would be massive delays is unacceptable. The only positive note was that the staff were polite, but this doesn’t excuse the poor planning and execution.
Dec 24, 2024 · Marian DankoI made a reservation for 8am. I got there at 9am. I was told that there was no car for me. BUT if I paid to get upgraded, I could get a car immediately. Seems like they just wanted to upsell me. I complained a lot and eventually the manager told me that a car in my class magically became available. This place sucks.
May 19, 2025 · Michael SacksI've never written a Google review before, but my terrible experience with this business compelled me to write so that others might avoid the same problems.I had a prepaid rental through Priceline, a type of rental I've done many, many times with no problems. Their system wouldn't recognize the rental, so I had to wait half an hour while they hand-filled paperwork to complete the rental. After getting the car, the ticket they gave me that was supposed to get me out of the garage was defective and I had to pay $38 to get out.On top of that, I tried calling them to ask a question about returning the rental. Their listed phone number is out of service, and the national Dollar representative had the same unworking phone number for them and no way to reach them.Save yourself a lot headaches and avoid this location!
May 19, 2025 · Jason VailFrom the beginning this car rental process has been a pain. Our reservation was at 10 am, we tried to call inform that we would be about two hours late, their phone number provided in the email and also the phone number on Google was disconnected. We ended up calling three different numbers to just get ahold of a human being that could confirm our reservation and ensure it was okay if we were late. After getting to the car rental building we found out the gentleman in front of us had been waiting two hours on a car and we have an expected wait time of an hour because there weren’t enough people on staff to clean the cars being returned. Most people behind us in line were being told that same day bookings wouldn’t be available. The brightest spot of this process was Eric, he was helpful and kind, as well as understanding about the frustration of the company being overbooked. Eric is an amazing customer service representative and if you choose to book with Dollar or Thrifty, expect a long wait but hopefully you also get the pleasure of being helped by Eric.
Apr 27, 2025 · Toby WhitewolfReservation: (Easy)- I booked one of the cheapest options through Priceline (~"manager's choice"), just to visit a friend while my car was being serviced. It was my first time rent a car.- Base cost was $38, subtotal without the $18 collision insurance came to $50. I ended up adding collusion insurance just in case, bringing me to $68 thus far.Pickup: (Got lost but got great help)- Initial representative was well dressed and professional.- I was assigned with a Chevy Bolt (battery electric).- The liability insurance package is about $13. There's also a licensing fee and tax that added $5. This brought my total rental cost to about $86 for 1 day, before charging costs.- Unfortunately, I had trouble following the verbal pickup instructions (I mistook the instructions for the Dropoff area for the Pickup area and got lost)... Oops.)- However, Eric (a different front desk representative) was able to walk me to my car in person.- (Eric even locked up the front lobby to guide me to the pickup area (he was the only one there at that moment; the other representative probably went on his break). Eric had a great personality and forthcoming willingness to help, going up and down a few flight of stairs to check exactly where my rental was parked before guiding me directly to it. I truly felt like a respected and valued customer because of his candor.)Recharging: (Bit pricy and slow but makes sense; could be worse.)- It was recommended by the initial Dollar representative during pickup to use the Electrify America charging station on Harrison. It was a good recommendation; was clean, not too busy in the morning, and was able to recharge the Chevy Volt at around 25 KW/hr.- For this Chevy Volt, it took a little under an hour to recharge the ~30% of the battery I used. No problem if you're not in a rush and had things to do on your phone (my case), but bad if you're in a rush and none of your destinations has a charger. Would consider a newer car if concerned about charge time.- (It is also pricier than Tesla charging at $0.64/kwh (my Model 3 costs $0.28~$0.58/kwh), but still cheaper than the charging fees that Dollar would charge if you returned the car without recharging (~$1.44/kwh; yikes).)Dropoff: (Got lost again, but got more help lol)- I also went to the wrong garage floor (because Dollar basically shares the same building as Hertz, Thrifty, etc) because I confused the "Dollar" sign directing me to take a left went I should have taken a right (for "Hertz" rentals).- However, one of the Hispanic (?) workers walking around the lot entrance was able to help me correlate the instructions I was provided. He didn't have to, but he showed incredible friendliness and professionalism - more than many valets.Overall/TL;DR: (A little rough, but felt good)- The first time car rental experience wasn't perfect, but luckily I was not in a rush, and the human interactions I made me feel like it might as well been perfect (great vibes, and I'll know by heart now where to go the next time I book a rental).
