Enterprise Rent-A-Car Introduce
For residents throughout Illinois, the need for a reliable car rental service can arise for various reasons, from business trips and family vacations to temporary vehicle replacements. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a globally recognized brand, often considered a go-to for many. This article delves into the specifics of one of their downtown Chicago locations: Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Hilton Garage, situated at 10 E Grand Ave Fl 2, Chicago, IL 60611. While Enterprise aims to provide convenient and comprehensive services, understanding the realities of a specific branch, especially through the lens of local user experiences, is crucial for an informed decision.
Chicago, as a major hub in Illinois, necessitates robust transportation options. While public transit is extensive, the flexibility of a rental car is often preferred for journeys within the state or beyond. This particular Enterprise location, nestled within a hotel garage, offers a unique operational model that can be both convenient and, at times, challenging, as highlighted by customer feedback. Our goal is to provide a clear and factual overview, allowing Illinois locals to gauge its suitability for their diverse car rental needs.
We will cover the location's accessibility, the range of services typically offered by Enterprise, the features and highlights that define the customer experience, and essential contact information. This detailed exploration will help you navigate your options and set realistic expectations for your next car rental from this specific Enterprise branch.
Location and Accessibility
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is located at 10 E Grand Ave Fl 2, Chicago, IL 60611, USA, within the Hilton Garage. This prime downtown Chicago address places it in the bustling River North neighborhood, just steps away from Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile, the Chicago River, and numerous popular attractions, hotels, and businesses. Its location within a garage signifies that it is not a traditional street-level storefront, but rather an office or counter located within the hotel's parking facility.
For Illinois residents, particularly those working or staying in the Loop, River North, or Streeterville areas, this location offers significant accessibility. It is highly convenient for public transportation users, with several CTA 'L' train stations (such as the Grand/State Red Line station) and numerous bus routes within easy walking distance. This allows for a straightforward journey to pick up your rental even if you don't have personal transportation initially. For those arriving by car, the garage location implies a dedicated space for vehicle pickup and drop-off, though navigating downtown Chicago traffic and parking to reach the garage can be a consideration. As it is a hotel garage location, it likely caters to both hotel guests and general public renters, given its central position.
Operating hours for this specific branch are typically: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM, and Sunday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM, allowing for rentals during standard business hours and on weekends.
Services Offered
Enterprise Rent-A-Car, as one of the largest and most recognized rental car companies, typically offers a comprehensive suite of services. The Hilton Garage location in Chicago is expected to provide access to these standard offerings, tailored to a downtown, high-volume environment:
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Enterprise maintains a wide selection of car classes to suit various needs and budgets. This includes economy and compact cars for efficient city driving, mid-size and full-size sedans for general use, and larger vehicles such as SUVs, minivans, and even passenger vans for families or groups. Availability often varies, and specific vehicle models cannot always be guaranteed, as indicated by customer experiences.
- Flexible Rental Durations: Whether you need a vehicle for a single day, a weekend getaway, a full week, or an extended monthly rental, Enterprise accommodates various rental periods.
- Online Reservation and Management: Customers can easily book, modify, or cancel reservations through the Enterprise website. Pre-booking is highly recommended, especially for downtown locations, and often yields better rates.
- Enterprise Plus Loyalty Program: For frequent renters, the Enterprise Plus program offers benefits such as expedited service, earning points towards free rental days, and access to special offers.
- Damage Waiver (DW) and Protection Products: Enterprise offers optional DW (also known as Collision Damage Waiver or Loss Damage Waiver), which can reduce or waive the renter's financial responsibility for damage to the rental vehicle. Other protection products, such as supplemental liability insurance, are also typically available for purchase.
- Optional Add-ons: Common extras include GPS navigation systems, child safety seats (infant, child, and booster seats), and roadside assistance plans. Roadside assistance typically covers flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, and fuel delivery (though charges may apply for fuel, based on company policy and specific incident).
- After-Hours Returns: For returns outside of operating hours, customers typically park the car in the designated area, lock the doors, and place the keys in a secure drop box. However, customers remain responsible for the vehicle's condition until the location officially opens and inspects the car.
- Cross-Border Travel: Most vehicles rented in the U.S. can be driven throughout the U.S. and Canada. However, certain vehicle classes (like exotics or large passenger/cargo vans) may have restrictions, and vehicles rented in the U.S. generally cannot be driven into Mexico.
Given the nature of downtown operations and the feedback provided, it is particularly important to verify vehicle availability and reservation details directly with the branch, especially when specific vehicle types are crucial for your travel plans.
Features / Highlights
Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Hilton Garage presents several features that define the rental experience for local Illinois users:
- Central Downtown Location: Its placement within the Hilton Garage on East Grand Avenue offers prime accessibility for those in the heart of Chicago, whether for business or leisure. This convenience can be a significant advantage for quick pick-ups and returns within the city center.
- Broad Fleet Availability (Typically): As a major Enterprise branch, it generally has access to a wide range of vehicles, from economy to full-size and SUVs, aiming to meet diverse customer needs.
- Potential for Service Recovery: While initial experiences can be challenging, as evidenced by one review, there is also potential for excellent service recovery. The instance where "Ben and Lexi... came through in the clutch and after waiting for a while found an upgrade vehicle and upgraded us for free" highlights that dedicated staff can work to resolve difficult situations, showcasing a commitment to customer satisfaction even amidst system issues.
However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by customer reviews, as these highlight critical areas where this location, or potentially Enterprise's broader system, can fall short:
- Vehicle Maintenance and Safety: The most alarming feedback concerns vehicle condition. One review details a car with "severely worn and nearly bald" tires, including a "sidewall plug" (an unsafe repair), leading to hydroplaning and a tire blow-out. This is a severe safety hazard that directly contradicts expectations of a well-maintained fleet from a reputable company and is a major concern for any renter.
- Reservation Fulfillment Issues: Multiple reviews describe instances where pre-booked and confirmed reservations were not honored, with no vehicles available upon arrival. This "absolutely insane and incomprehensible" situation, even with confirmation texts, causes significant disruption and frustration for customers, particularly during critical travel times like holidays.
- Inconsistent Customer Service: While some staff members (like Ben and Lexi) are lauded for their problem-solving, other interactions described "exceptionally poor" customer service, including unhelpful roadside assistance and "completely oblivious" attendants who could not access the system or offer solutions. This indicates a high degree of variability in service quality.
- Vehicle Class Downgrades: A recurring complaint is being offered a smaller car (e.g., a Corolla instead of a full-size) despite a booked reservation for a larger class, forcing customers to accept less suitable vehicles or face further delays.
These points suggest that while the physical location is convenient, customers should exercise caution, thoroughly inspect their rental vehicle before leaving the garage, and be prepared for potential issues with reservation fulfillment and a need for patience and persistence in resolving problems.

- Mobile Phone: +1 312-670-7270

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Illinois residents, particularly those who frequent downtown Chicago, Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Hilton Garage offers a geographically convenient option for car rental. Its central location, nestled within a major hotel, provides easy access via public transportation and positions renters well for travel throughout the city and beyond. When the service functions as intended, the convenience of picking up a vehicle from a downtown garage can be a significant advantage, allowing for seamless transitions from urban activities to road travel.
However, based on significant customer feedback, potential renters must be aware of notable challenges, including severe concerns about vehicle safety and reliability, as well as a demonstrated risk of confirmed reservations not being honored due to inventory issues. While some staff members have shown an ability to provide effective service recovery, the inconsistent experience means that this location might be best suited for locals who are flexible with vehicle types, are prepared to thoroughly inspect their rental before departure, and can afford to have contingency plans in place for critical travel. If these precautions are taken, and one benefits from the branch's better days, the location itself offers undeniable urban convenience for car rental needs in Illinois.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I rented a car from Enterprise while traveling for work with my logistics company and encountered an experience that was not only frustrating but dangerous. The car I was given had three out of four tires that were severely worn and nearly bald. While driving in the rain on my way from Columbus to Chicago, I hydroplaned twice next to semi-trucks, which made me seriously consider pulling over. Ultimately, I only managed to make it to Dayton, Ohio, where the back right tire blew out.The customer service throughout this ordeal was exceptionally poor. When I contacted Enterprise roadside assistance, they informed me that I would either need to change the tire myself or be charged for the service. Despite the safety risks, I told them to go ahead and bill me. Thankfully, Triple-A arrived quickly and provided excellent service. The technician confirmed my suspicion that three of the tires were bald and even explained that one tire had a sidewall plug—a repair that should never have been approved, as it endangered not only me but other drivers.Later, I contacted Enterprise customer service when they opened at 8 a.m., but their response was limited to offering me a smaller car than what I originally rented—a Corolla, despite my booking for a full-size car. On previous occasions, Enterprise has also attempted to provide compact vehicles like Corollas despite my full-size reservations. Driving under these conditions, I was forced to go 20 miles per hour under the speed limit on the highway until I reached Dayton International Airport. At Dayton International Airport, I finally experienced better service. The employee there, who was managing both Enterprise and National by himself, was understanding and extremely helpful despite the overwhelming workload. He upgraded me to a brand-new truck, which was the very least that could have been done given the circumstances.Overall, this experience was unacceptable and put lives at risk due to negligence. I am now contemplating contacting my company's travel team to avoid using Enterprise altogether for future bookings. I strongly encourage someone to reach out to discuss this matter further.
Apr 09, 2025 · Benjamin SteitzMade a vehicle reservation a month prior to arrival. When I arrived on the day of the reservation, come to find out they don’t have any vehicles to rent out. What is the point of a reservation, if I reserve a car and they give them all out?I feel like I’m in a Seinfeld episode!Absolutely insane and incomprehensible. Now I am stuck in Chicago with my family for the holidays, needing to get to Milwaukee and no way to get there.Do yourself a favor and avoid the headache, and this particular enterprise. They even sent a text message 2 days out and the night before confirming my reservation.Absolutely bananas.Edit: Ben and Lexi who work here came through in the clutch and after waiting for a while found an upgrade vehicle and upgraded us for free.Good to know that people still care and help find resolutions. Story is that enterprise’s software has a “glitch” and over booked 100+ reservations.
Jul 03, 2025 · Daniel ChaWhile on vacation in Chicago two weeks ago, we decided on a rental for two days to explore areas outside of Metro Chicago. I called my go to rental company and it was a pleasant, professional experience. Just two blocks from the Intercontinental Hotel on the Magnificant Mile. Our go to hotel in Chicago.Connor Gibson, very professional demeanor, hooked us up with a very nice mid size and we were off the next morning on our advertures. I can always count on Enterprise to supply me with a clean, safe vehicle. Connor should be commended for his devotion to Enterprise and the customers he is providing excellent service. Thanks Connor for a job well done
Jun 30, 2025 · Guitar ManThey opened 30min late, when the guy with the keys finally arrived it took forever for them to start working. obviously a huge line formed. We had an appointment to get to and we missed it. Such a bad experiencie. We got here 15min before our appointment and it took a more than an hour to get our car.
Nov 30, 2024 · Soraya Avelar TanusI never review anything but I find it’s necessary for your time, safety, and overall wellbeing if you’re considering renting a car from enterprise.Story time:I picked up a car in Harrisburg and drove to downtown Chicago in one day. It’s a 10 hour drive and it was a 20 degree January day where the roads were heavily salted. I should’ve checked before I left the rental lot, but my windshield washers weren’t working for the entire 10hr drive. I stopped and purchased washer fluid to manually pour and wipe over the windshield throughout the ride. I will admit it was not safe at all for me to operate this vehicle as a truck driving by would cover my windshield in salt/mist and I would immediately have to pull over to retain any visibility. I will say corporate customer service was NOT able to offer any rationale or timely alternative options. And it’s safe to say whatever washer fluid they used in my rental was not rated for cold weather. If you choose to rent a car, please take photos and videos of when you returned the car like I did to avoid this:I returned the car exactly 3 hr and 47 minutes ahead of my drop-off time (I have a video with location and timestamp) only to find I was overcharged $30.43 for the reservation because I “dropped off the car late.” KEEP IN MIND - this office operates under normal business hours and no one is present after closing time, so you have to “return the car” by putting keys in a drop box. So someone definitely just tacked on a $30 charge to my bill for no reason. They never emailed me about this charge!! They put it on my reservation total and I found it on my credit card statement!!! Keep your receipts and videos and be prepared to wait 5-7 business days for them to fix a transaction that they consciously and fraudulently charged against you. This is all to say that you should rent from anyone else. It’s not worth your safety and the safety of other drivers. Pending your vehicle is safe, it’s not worth the stress and time of dealing with fraudulent charges on your credit card either.
