Choosing the Enterprise Rent-A-Car location in La Mesa is a decision that balances the reliability of a national brand with the benefits of a locally-focused operation. What is most worth choosing about this branch is the unique combination of its Identity as women-owned and its offering of Active military discounts, two highly valued features in the diverse and military-heavy Southern California landscape. Supporting this business means benefiting from competitive rates while contributing to local business diversity and community support efforts.
Furthermore, the fleet diversity, which includes dedicated Van rental agency services, is an undeniable advantage for local residents and businesses requiring specialized vehicles for large projects or group outings. The ability to pay using various methods, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, also provides necessary flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
However, it is prudent for local users to recognize the reported challenges, specifically the potential for reservations not being fully honored or inconsistencies in service during peak times or at drop-off. The best strategy for a customer in California planning a rental here is to employ proactive communication: confirm the exact vehicle type (especially if a luxury or specialized van is required) and the precise drop-off procedures, especially for scheduled after-hours returns. By being proactive, customers can maximize the positive elements—the clean cars, the dedicated staff members like Chris Payne, the financial discounts, and the extensive vehicle options—while effectively navigating the known systemic pressures that can occasionally impact the customer experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our recent experience with Enterprise was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. While I want to be clear that the associates I dealt with during pick-up and along the way were generally polite, the overall rental process was a complete failure. We were on a month-long road trip when our personal vehicle (a Lincoln Aviator) went into the shop. We specifically booked a luxury SUV so we’d have enough room for our, luggage. When we arrived, our reserved vehicle wasn’t available. Instead, we were given a small two-row Chevy SUV—nowhere near comparable to what we booked. I even offered to wait and pay extra for a Jeep Wagoneer I saw on the lot, but was told it was reserved for someone else. So why was my reservation downgraded, but theirs was honored?I was told I could swap the car at another Enterprise during our trip, but that never happened. I stopped at four different locations and none had anything larger. Even when the check engine light came on, they still couldn’t (or wouldn’t) replace the vehicle, leaving me to risk breaking down with my 9-year-old son on a long road trip. What’s worse, Enterprise locations don’t seem to communicate with each other. There’s no system to check availability at other branches, so customers waste hours driving from location to location, hoping to get lucky. Corporate clearly doesn’t have enough vehicles to meet reservations, and the system doesn’t support employees or customers. The final straw was drop-off. I had a 6:00 PM drop-off appointment—which, according to Enterprise, still includes in-person service. I arrived exactly on time after a 7-hour drive, only to find the doors locked. An employee sat at the counter and refused to let me in, claiming they were closed—despite my scheduled appointment time. He didn’t even get up to check or talk with me until I insisted, and his attitude was unacceptably rude. I had planned to refill the tank before drop-off, but the nearby gas station’s pump wouldn’t take debit cards. I explained the situation and asked if, given all the trouble and the fact the car was never what I booked, they could waive the fuel charge. He acted as if I was being an inconvenience for even asking, though he eventually agreed.Enterprise, please get it together. If you can’t honor reservations, can’t replace unsafe vehicles, can’t communicate between locations, and can’t even honor scheduled in-person drop-offs, you are failing your customers. I will be rethinking any future rentals with this company.
Jul 29, 2025 · Nicole BrummettCars are always clean.I rented a vehicle from the Enterprise location in La Mesa, CA, and I had the pleasure of being assisted by representative Chris Payne. During the time of my visit, Chris was the only employee available to help all customers which include checking them in, showing available rentals to customer, and answering the phone line which continued to constantly ring. In taking care of all these duties at the same time, Chris handled everything with incredible grace, professionalism, and patience.Chris always checked on customers and made sure to communicate with us to ensure we knew when we were next and to make sure we were comfortable. Even while managing multiple customers on his own, he remained calm, kind, and attentive. Even with everything going on, Chris took the time to walk me through my rental, answered my questions, and never once made me feel rushed. What also stood out was how personable and genuine Chris was. He treated all customers with care and respect, creating a positive experience even in a situation that could have easily felt chaotic and stressful. There were at least 6-7 customers that were visiting at the same time I was there. It’s rare to see someone manage that kind of pressure with such a positive attitude and commitment to excellent service, especially today. Enterprise is lucky to have someone like Chris Payne on their team, and because of him, I’ll absolutely return to the La Mesa location for future rentals. Chris Payne sets the great standard for customer service, and this would be excellent training for other Enterprise locations.I would like to thank Chris for his great customer service.
Jul 24, 2025 · KI recently rented from the La Mesa Enterprise location. I had a reservation for 10:00am and arrived at 10:05am. After waiting a few minutes, I was told at 10:15am that four other customers were ahead of me and I would have to wait another 30 minutes for my rental. At 10:30am, the assistant manager, Lexi, told me it was a busy Saturday and that I needed “to have patience,” while also incorrectly claiming I had arrived at 10:15am. I explained that my reservation was at 10:00am, that I had arrived on time, and that I was on a tight schedule.By 10:40am, I went back inside to ask the manager if the vehicle would be ready soon. He informed me that they had many “same-day rentals” and that my car was being “cleaned,” so it would be another 10–15 minutes. I even told him I would rather take the car uncleaned than continue waiting. Despite this, I did not receive my rental until nearly an hour after my scheduled reservation. What makes this worse is that my daughter had the exact same experience at this location just a few months ago—she also had a reservation and still had to wait 30+minutes for her car. The manager tried to claim this is not a common occurrence, but clearly it is.This entire experience was unacceptable. The assistant manager’s dismissive comment about having patience, along with management’s lack of preparation for a busy Saturday, shows poor customer service and inefficient operations. The whole point of making a reservation is to ensure a car is ready at the reserved time—not to wait while being given excuses.I will not rent from Enterprise again.
Sep 06, 2025 · Clari UThis is my favorite Enterprise location! I have been using Enterprise for years as my choice rental company for both work and personal use. The vehicles are always in great condition and most importantly the customer service is excellent! At this location specifically, I’m typically in and out in no time, at both pick up and drop off. Everyone always has a smile. I’ve even witnessed some difficult moments as people navigate insurance coverage, they are just all around a caring team. Keep up the great work. Customer service isn’t easy, but I appreciate it!!!
Aug 07, 2025 · Keshia JavisjonesI’ve been an Enterprise customer for years with no issues…until I came to this La Mesa location. I’ve visited twice, both times with a confirmed appointment, and both times I waited 45 minutes for a vehicle I had already reserved. The customer service you receive here is a mixed bagged and you can tell they don’t have a strong team environment. The first visit, at least, ended with a free upgrade after I had to push the issue. The second time was far worse. I was told a specific car would be available only to arrive and find it wasn’t. They gave me a "similar" vehicle that was absolutely not comparable and was filthy even after they took 30 minutes to “clean” it. Despite that, I’m still being charged the upgraded fee. Mind you other locations actually deliver the vehicle to you at the appointed time, so how this branch struggles to have cars available at an appointed time is beyond me.They assured me I’d receive a call by 1:30 PM about the original vehicle. I called back at 1:45 PM and was told it still needed repairs. After two days of runaround, I was then informed they rented the promised vehicle to someone else. This location has shown zero concern for customer service, time, and takes no accountability. If you’re looking for reliable service, I highly suggest going to another location. I will not be returning that’s for sure!
