To the pickup just a crosswalk away from the terminal at the Long Beach Airport. Our vehicle was just washed clean & ready to go. To the drop off same location, a crosswalk away from checking in for our flight at the Long Beach CA Airport Hertz rental Lot. We enjoyed our travels as a family in the 2024 Ford Explorer XLT. In the future I would access the luggage storage/trunk space for the 6 of us + luggage, I got a 7 person vehicle but didn't realize the small area to carry 6 pieces of luggage. In the future I will probably go with a large SUV instead of a medium size. But that's on me.

However I was checked in and it was not yet my checkin time so there was no reason I shouldn’t have been able to change. Then they told me they would not take my drivers license because it was cracked. I have no other license to provide. I have been having extremely poor experiences with Hertz and this tops the list. Being a presidential member did not matter they were still extremely unhelpful and rude. I have a valid license that’s cracked I asked to switch my credit card they couldn’t do that and they couldn’t cancel. Then said call customer service which is also extremely difficult to deal with switch rental companies asap after being loyal for years. Not to mention I’ve used this license previously and it’s on my loyalty number. So they pick and choose when to say you can’t use it.

As a widow traveling alone with five kids and my toddler grandchild, I mistakenly parked near the Hertz rental area while returning a car to Enterprise. The area was completely empty. Rather than offer any help or point me in the right direction, Hertz employees chose to threaten me with towing and then stood around watching as I rushed to unload bags with my children.Not one of them offered help. Instead, more employees came out to threaten me with towing even though the entire area was empty with at least 6-8 parking spaces open. I was even told that I “should’ve just asked nicely” — as if I hadn’t already been explaining the situation clearly. There was zero compassion, no professionalism, and blatant intimidation.With kindness and understanding, the entire process would have taken less than 5 minutes to unload. Instead, I unloaded partway and then was forced to leave my children standing alone with the baggage because the Hertz employees kept multiplying with threats about their EMPTY parking lot.I have never been treated with such cruelty in a moment where basic human kindness was needed. Hertz, you need to seriously evaluate the kind of people representing your company. I’ve filed a formal complaint and I hope no other mother, widow, or family is ever subjected to this kind of treatment again.

Unfortunately, my experience on May 25, 2025, left a lot to be desired—specifically during the return process.I returned my rental car after a weekend trip (May 23–25), and everything was fine until I pulled into the return zone. The employee on duty—who I later realized was responsible for returns—didn’t look up, didn’t greet me, and didn’t offer a single word of guidance. He was busy chatting with a young woman nearby and seemed more interested in the conversation than doing his job.I parked the car where I thought it should go, got out, and walked over to the return counter. He still didn’t acknowledge me. Moments later, another customer arrived after me, and this same employee immediately got up and helped them—completely ignoring the fact that I had been waiting, keys and receipt in hand.When I asked if this was where I was supposed to return the car, he said yes but claimed the other customer had been there first—which was absolutely not true. Even after I clarified, he refused to engage, so I left the keys on the desk, told him he should focus on doing his job instead of flirting, and walked away. His only response? “Have a good day,” as he continued assisting the other customer.This level of service is unacceptable—especially from a company like Hertz. No acknowledgment, no professionalism, and a total disregard for the order in which customers arrived. I expect more from a brand I’ve trusted for years. If you’re returning a car at LGB, don’t expect help unless you're standing next to someone the staff wants to talk to.Really disappointing.
