Routes Car Rental Introduce
Navigating Colorado's vast and varied landscapes often requires the flexibility and freedom that only a personal vehicle can provide. Whether you're a local planning a weekend getaway to the mountains, a business traveler needing temporary transport, or someone looking for an alternative to rideshares, car rental can be a practical solution. Among the many options near Denver International Airport (DEN), Routes Car Rental presents itself as an option for those seeking potentially more budget-friendly rates. However, like with any service, understanding their operations and policies upfront can significantly shape your experience.
Routes Car Rental aims to provide an economical choice for travelers, often appearing in searches for competitive prices. Their location near Denver International Airport makes them accessible for those flying in, and they offer a range of vehicles, from mid-size SUVs suitable for Colorado roads to more compact options. While their pricing can be attractive, it's important for local users to be aware of their specific procedures regarding deposits, insurance, and additional fees to ensure a smooth rental process and avoid surprises.
Routes Car Rental is situated at 17411 E 81st Ave, Commerce City, CO 80022, USA. This location is off-airport, meaning it's not directly at the Jeppesen Terminal. To reach Routes Car Rental from Denver International Airport (DEN), you'll need to utilize their courtesy shuttle service. When you arrive at DEN, head to Level 5, Island 4, where the off-airport rental shuttle pick-up area is located. This is typically past the signs for the major, on-airport rental companies. It's advisable to call Routes Car Rental directly at (720) 892-5301 upon your arrival at the airport to confirm shuttle pick-up instructions, as shuttle wait times can vary, sometimes around 20 minutes. While this requires an extra step compared to on-site rentals, it's a common setup for many competitively priced rental agencies.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Routes Car Rental generally offers a range of vehicle types, from economy cars for basic transportation to mid-size SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler, which can be ideal for Colorado's varied terrain and for those needing more space or capability. Specific models and availability can vary.
- Price-Competitive Options: Routes is often listed among car rental companies offering some of the best prices, particularly for certain vehicle categories, which can be attractive for budget-conscious travelers.
- Shuttle Service to/from DEN Airport: They provide a courtesy shuttle to transport customers between Denver International Airport and their Commerce City location, facilitating access for those arriving by air.
- Easy Drop-off Process: The drop-off procedure is designed to be straightforward, often allowing renters to simply park the vehicle in a designated return area and leave the keys inside, with staff on hand to confirm the return.
- Online Booking Available: Reservations can typically be made through various online travel agencies or direct booking platforms, allowing for convenient planning in advance of your trip.
- Value for Money: For those who prioritize cost savings, Routes Car Rental can offer solid value, especially when a good deal is secured through booking platforms. This can be a key deciding factor for many Colorado locals planning trips.
- Specific Vehicle Models: Customers have reported receiving popular mid-size SUVs like a Jeep Wrangler, which can be a desirable vehicle for exploring Colorado's outdoor attractions and is a significant plus for those who want a specific type of driving experience.
- Straightforward Return Process: The drop-off procedure is generally described as easy and quick, with clear instructions and staff readily available to assist, minimizing stress at the end of your rental period.
- Proof of Insurance Required: Routes Car Rental typically requires customers to show proof of full coverage insurance through their own car insurance policy if they decline the rental company's insurance. This is an important detail to be aware of upfront to avoid unexpected charges.
- Debit Card Policy: It's crucial for renters to know that Routes Car Rental generally requires a credit card for the deposit, even if the reservation has been paid in full. Debit cards are usually not accepted for the security deposit, and this policy may not always be prominently displayed during the initial booking process, potentially leading to issues at the counter.
- Additional Fees: Be prepared for potential additional charges such as daily fees for adding extra drivers and for renting accessories like booster seats. These fees can add up quickly, so budgeting for them in advance is recommended.

For Colorado locals, Routes Car Rental presents an intriguing option, especially if your primary concern is securing a rental vehicle at a competitive price. While major national brands might offer certain conveniences, a local agency like Routes can sometimes provide a more budget-friendly solution for your transportation needs within our great state.
If you're a Denver metro resident planning a long weekend trip to the mountains, needing an extra vehicle for visiting family, or simply require temporary transportation while your personal car is in the shop, Routes Car Rental could be a viable choice. The potential for securing a mid-size SUV, like a Jeep Wrangler, at a good rate is particularly appealing for navigating Colorado's diverse terrain, from snowy mountain passes in winter to dirt roads leading to hiking trails in summer.
However, suitability for locals largely depends on managing expectations and being prepared for their specific policies. For example, knowing in advance about their credit card requirement for the deposit, even with pre-paid reservations, is critical. Likewise, understanding the daily fees for additional drivers or child seats means you can factor these into your budget rather than facing surprises at the counter. Planning for a slight wait at the pick-up counter, and making sure you have proof of your own full coverage car insurance if you don't wish to purchase theirs, can make the experience much smoother.
Ultimately, if you're a Colorado local who values a good deal and is willing to invest a little time in understanding the rental terms and navigating the off-airport shuttle, Routes Car Rental can indeed offer a solid value proposition. It's a pragmatic choice for those who are savvy about their rental needs and prioritize cost-effectiveness for their Colorado adventures.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I can’t even put into words how horrible of an experience we had picking up a rental car today. It started with waiting 1 hour to get to the agent counter to pick up the car. Then they asked immediately asked for our credit card, and not debit card for a $500 deposit. We already paid in full for our reservation and we have full coverage insurance with our own insurance company. This was not made very visible in the terms and conditions at booking. Nor was it in the summary of what to expect at check in.The representative was on his phone the entire time with no care in the world to how this interaction was as going. Then we asked to add a driver (my husband) and they said it’s $10 per day, that’s insane. We also inquired about renting a booster seat and that was $13 per day. Walmart sells them for $19.Lastly, we got to our car which was scratched up badly, and in bad shape on the inside. It also smells horrible. We took tons of videos and pictures with time stamps because I feel like this sketchy place would do anything to keep that $500 deposit.DON’T rent from here. Customer service is awful, the vehicles aren’t top tier, and the pricing is outrageous. Stick with an actual known name for your rental. I promise, you will be in better hands.
Jul 01, 2025 · Brittani SabourinGot a good deal on a rental through Priceline - Routes had one of the best prices for a midsize SUV. Our flight landed at 2:30 PM at DEN, and finding the shuttle took a little time. Make sure you head all the way past the signs for the big-name rental companies (Enterprise, Alamo, etc.) to the off-airport rental pickup area. The Routes shuttle comes about every 20 minutes. We reached the Routes office around 3:10 PM and had to wait in line until about 4:00 PM to get the car. Priceline listed a midsize SUV like a Jeep Wrangler, and we did get a 2023 black Wrangler (looked great).Just a heads-up: even if you have credit card rental coverage, they’ll still require you to purchase their insurance unless you can show proof of full coverage through your own car insurance. That added about $15/day. The front desk staff weren’t the friendliest - no smiles, a bit rude; but I guess that’s part of the tradeoff with the cheaper price.Drop-off was easy. When you arrive, there’s a sign for Rental Return; no need to park formally. A lady was there and asked if everything was okay. I mentioned the service was due in 100 miles (as written on the door), but otherwise no issues. She told me to just leave the key inside the vehicle, and I was good to go. Then I waited for the shuttle back to the airport.Overall, solid value if you know what to expect. Plan for a bit of a wait and insurance clarification upfront.
Jul 18, 2025 · Farhan IshrakFlew in to Denver for a wedding and show at Red Rock Amphitheater. Shopped around for good rental rates and found the best at Routes Car Rental Denver. Went directly to the reviews and read mostly negative comments about wait times, high pressure added insurance and hidden fees. After serious thought went ahead rented a Dodge Durango Hemi. After arriving at Denver took Routes Shuttle which showed up at their platform within 10 minutes. Once at Routes counter the whole process took less than 30 minutes. They did push the extra insurance but after reading the reviews I took a copy of my car insurance coverage and once I gave them the copy they let me know my insurance would be fine. There were a couple of previously undisclosed charges but they totaled less than $60.00. Still saved $350.00 compared to the Big outfits. The return of the vehicle was a cake walk and the return shuttle to airport was on time. Next time in Denver will be renting from Routes again.
Jul 01, 2025 · Kevin RickardWe rented a vehicle through Routes and had an extremely frustrating experience from start to finish. Our arrival time changed multiple times, and I stayed in constant communication with Routes to ensure a vehicle would still be available. However, every call went to a call center—never the actual rental location—so we couldn't get real-time or accurate updates. When we landed, it was past closing time and we were unable to pick up our vehicle. We arrived first thing the next morning, only to find a line out the door. We waited nearly two hours to be helped, only to be told there were no cars available. A sales agent rudely informed us that they had stayed open until midnight the night before—but again, because all calls went to a call center, there was no way for us to know that. The front desk staff, especially an employee named “Z,” was extremely rude and offered no help in finding a resolution. We were forced to make a new reservation, and the car we booked wasn’t even available—so we ended up paying an additional $400 on top of what we had already spent. The lines were outrageously long, the communication was poor, and the surprise fees were not clearly outlined. Overall, the experience was chaotic, unprofessional, and stressful. I would not recommend Routes unless they make major improvements to customer service, communication, and transparency.
Jun 24, 2025 · Brooklynn WoottonMy first time using this discount car rental provider and pleasantly satisfied!Airport shuttles were on time, I waited 10-15 minutes on arrival.Check in/return was smooth. I didn’t wait long on pick up but saw a pretty big line when I returned. Just beware busy pick up times.Satisfied with the quality of car provided, exactly as description. Clean, reliable.Great deal, and will be using them again!
