I traveled with a friend of mine who was renting for the past 3 weeks decided to rent again for an additional month and had to start a new contract. He dropped off a Hyundai Elantra and they said that he could not keep the vehicle and put him into a Chevy Impala. It was told to him was the only vehicle available even though a reservation had been made days before.After leaving the airport the car was unsafe to drive. We had gotten stuck multiple times and driving on the highway was God awful. To add o the horrible experience the interior of the car had food debris, there was a crusty brown substance all around the shift handle and white stains on the driver side seat.Thankfully he accidentally left a pair of reading glasses in the car he dropped off and they called him to let him know. He explained the situation with the car and they offered to return and swap out. The drive back was white knuckled driving. Had to pay for gas to fill the tank up again. Once back at the agency in Manchester in which the drive was from Townsend Massachusetts. One of the attendees treated Mark like He was making up how bad the driving was in that car. Mark explained he would not allow his children to enter the car because of how unsafe it was. They ended up giving Mark back the car he originally dropped off and it was like night and day.It was unfortunately a bad experience all the way around. The day not only created much unexpected stress and additional expenses but Thrifty did not do anything to compensate for the terrible experience that renting out an unsafe car caused. Including having to buy more gas in order to return the vehicle.What happened to providing the Wow experience.

Have rented from thrifty many times and when I brought car back this time they added a 100.00 cleaning fee. It was returned early am so no one was there to talk to as we returned it. The car had some beach sand but that's it. Of course they dont answer phone or text. Careful who you rent from they are not the best!!!

This is getting posted here because this is where I started the rental. 100% of this is meant for the corporate side and customer relationship when helping in bad situations.This am of July 27th of 2024, I was heading across Newfoundland Canada in a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. Around 3am Newfoundland time. So 130 am East Coast when heading down the only highway in the country in the rain a young moose came out in front of another car heading eastbound while me and my family are heading the the ferry on the west coast of Newfoundland.This car handled the accident well but with the sensors triggering event it turned the engine off and I couldn't move in the middle of the highway. Rain, fog, and dark AF. Called in services and they said they will get us to a rental spot as soon as it opens and cover the lift until we get back up and moving. (Later we determined that was a lie.) The nearest spot we are considering was in Gander NL. They open at 9 am so they told us call them back and they will get us moving.We get towed around 530 am NL time. Yes middle of the woods so they had to wake up the tow guy and the cops to come assist. They got the taxi for us to head to the nearest hotels. ALL THREE!!! Booked solid no open rooms. Yes 3 of us and a load of stuff heading back to America not good.So around 730am NL time , I noticed the Thrifty or dollar or Hertz who ever is running the place is closed until Monday! GRRRRRRRR!!!! So I call back talk to a different person tell them the story and give them the case number. They informed me only thing they can do is in Saint Johns NL. It's 3+ hours in the opposite direction then to turn around and run back to the ferry was not going to happen easily. We asked if they can get us a car with a different rental company they said they can't and they would at least pay for us to get a Uber or taxi to the new location. I told them I would try and call around and get back to them .Called everything around us and forward towards the boat no one had any cars rentable one way to America. The have some law up here no one way cars to America unless it was from America. At this point we are lost and need some real help. Called the taxi place they said 500 bucks would get us to Saint Johns. Called Thrifty back to talk with customer help and got told they can help us with the car rental but no transportation will be covered now.After a few back and forth they basically told us to bad they will not help other than setting up a rental. But then told us to check with them for availability of a 1 way rental. So guess what....... Nope nothing available to come back to the US. So now I'm stuck in the middle of Gander NL trying to get to the boat with no help from them or my insurance company.Luckily they have an airport and we could catch a flight to Boston to get home. Zero help in the worst case you can have is 100% NOT OK! Stranding a family of 3 in the middle of NL trying to get home that's 20+ hours away complete trash. This experience with your customer people it's down right a dumpster fire. I'm out 1500 in plane tickets and 400 in more luggage to fly. Thirty more like disappointment. If I could give negative 5 stars I would.

They don’t answer their phone, they don’t give you a receipt in person, the actual charge was double what I was expecting. They scare you into buying extra protection because just about everything is your fault if you don’t buy it. Never using them again. The end bill was another 200 more than it was supposed to be, but I never got a receipt so I have no idea why. The tires were almost to the ware bars as well. Good thing the weather was nice.
