Economy Rent a Car Denver Introduce
When planning your travels, whether it’s a quick business trip out of Denver International Airport (DEN) or a much-anticipated road trip across our beautiful Colorado landscapes, securing a car rental is often a necessary step. Many travelers, especially those looking for the most budget-friendly options, consider companies like Economy Rent a Car Denver. The promise of significant savings can be appealing, but for locals in Colorado looking for reliable transportation, it's crucial to understand the full picture before making a reservation. This article aims to provide a clear, factual overview of Economy Rent a Car Denver, incorporating insights from real customer experiences to help you make an informed decision for your car rental needs.
Car rental services at major airports like DEN are designed to facilitate seamless transitions for travelers. However, not all services are created equal, and understanding the nuances of each can save you time, money, and frustration. While the name "Economy" suggests affordability, real-world experiences from customers highlight that the lowest price doesn't always equate to the best value, particularly when factoring in potential inconveniences and unexpected hurdles. For Colorado residents, a smooth start to any journey from DEN is paramount, and this overview will help you weigh your options carefully.
Economy Rent a Car Denver is located at 17901 E 81st Ave, Commerce City, CO 80022, USA. This address places it off-site from the main Denver International Airport terminal. Like many off-airport rental companies, they typically rely on a shuttle service to transport customers between the airport and their rental office.
For travelers arriving at DEN, the process usually involves collecting your luggage and then proceeding to a designated shuttle pick-up area. However, as noted in customer reviews, finding these shuttles and experiencing timely pick-ups can be a significant challenge. One customer reported waiting 45 minutes for a shuttle pick-up, even after calling, and another detailed a 30-minute wait followed by another 30-minute wait after calling. The shuttle vehicle itself might be a van rather than a larger bus, which could further impact capacity and wait times during peak periods. Navigating the shuttle system at DEN can be confusing, and if signage is unclear, it adds to the frustration for travelers unfamiliar with the process. The off-airport location, while often contributing to lower rental rates, can introduce logistical complexities that impact the overall efficiency of your travel plans.
Vehicle Categories: Economy Rent a Car generally offers a range of standard vehicle categories, typically including compact, economy, intermediate, standard, and potentially some SUV options. The specific makes and models within these categories can vary, and customers are usually provided with a "similar" vehicle to what they reserved.
Prepaid Reservations: Many customers book through third-party sites like Priceline, which often involve prepaid reservations. While this can lock in a lower rate, it also means any issues at the counter can result in significant financial loss if a refund is not easily processed.
Insurance and Protection Packages: Like all rental car companies, Economy Rent a Car offers various optional insurance and protection packages. These are designed to cover potential damages to the rental vehicle (Collision Damage Waiver/Loss Damage Waiver) or liability towards third parties (Supplemental Liability Insurance). Customers should be aware that their personal auto insurance or credit card benefits might offer some coverage, but the rental company may still require proof of specific policy details.
Cancellation Policies: While specific policies can vary, if a customer is late for their pickup, even due to factors outside their control (like delayed shuttles), the rental company may cancel the reservation, often without a refund for prepaid bookings.
Potentially Lower Prices: The primary appeal of Economy Rent a Car is often its competitive pricing, especially when booked through discount travel websites. For travelers strictly prioritizing the lowest upfront cost, this can seem like a significant advantage.
Debit Card Policy: Based on general rental company policies, some economy-focused agencies might have more restrictive debit card policies, often requiring extensive documentation, proof of return flights, and significant security deposits, which may not be immediately clear at the time of booking.
Insurance Verification: A recurring theme from customer experiences is the strict and sometimes confusing requirement for proof of personal auto insurance. As one customer noted, the company may demand a physical copy of your policy or a declaration page and might not accept just a policy number, potentially leading to forced purchase of their more expensive insurance or denial of the rental.
Customer Service Concerns: Based on numerous reviews, a significant highlight (or rather, lowlight) is the reported customer service experience. Descriptions include long wait times, difficulty reaching representatives, calls being disconnected, and unhelpful or "surly" staff, with reports of "five employees milling around talking on their cell phones or resting on chairs" instead of assisting customers.
Office Environment: Customer feedback describes the office as looking "like some sketchy third world nation popup enterprise" with "no signage identifying it as Economy," contributing to a sense of distrust and confusion upon arrival.
Risk of Cancellation: The company's policy of canceling rentals if a customer is late, even if the delay is due to the company's own shuttle service, is a significant feature that has led to frustration and financial loss for customers.

For residents of Colorado, especially those flying out of or into Denver International Airport (DEN), the decision of where to rent a car carries significant weight. While Economy Rent a Car Denver might initially appear attractive due to its often lower advertised prices, the feedback from real customers suggests that this location presents substantial risks and inconveniences that could negate any perceived savings.
The primary concern for locals is the potential for significant wasted time and frustration. The issues with shuttle wait times, potentially unhelpful customer service, and stringent, often non-negotiable insurance requirements can turn what should be a straightforward rental process into a multi-hour ordeal, forcing customers to abandon their prepaid reservations and seek alternatives from more reputable companies, as experienced by one customer who ultimately rented from Dollar. This not only wastes valuable time but also money, as prepaid reservations may not be refunded.
For Coloradans relying on a rental car to seamlessly transition from air travel to their home or onward adventures, encountering a "sketchy" office environment, uncooperative staff regarding insurance verification, or an outright cancellation due to delays outside of their control is simply unacceptable. The local lifestyle often demands efficiency and reliability, whether heading to the mountains, attending a Rockies game, or visiting family. The potential for such disruptions far outweighs the initial monetary savings.
Therefore, while the name "Economy Rent a Car Denver" might suggest a suitable budget option, the overwhelming sentiment from customer experiences indicates that this location is not generally suitable for locals who value their time, peace of mind, and a reliable start to their journeys. It is advisable for Colorado residents to prioritize well-established rental companies at DEN with clearer processes, transparent policies, and consistently positive customer service reputations, even if it means a slightly higher initial cost, to ensure a smooth and stress-free car rental experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Listen to the reviews. This car rental company does not care about you. Worst customer service ever. They hang up on you mid call if you are trying to solve an issue. They take forever to pick you up from the shuttle area (I waited for 45 minutes) and then if you are late. They WILL cancel your car rental. Even if it wasn’t your fault. Honestly this rental office should be shut down. Never will trust economy ever again.
Jul 14, 2025 · Gabriel castroI made the mistake of booking a rental car with Economy Rent-A-Car on Priceline to be picked up at Denver International Airport. The price was cheaper by several hundred dollars compared to the other well known rental companies. I was not prepared wasting half a day to not get their car rental. There are no clear instructions or signage on where to go to board a bus to the car rental places. I had to call for a pickup after waiting 30 minutes with another customer. We waited for another 30 minutes. None of their employees spoke very good English. Our driver finally picked us up in a van, not a bus. Inside their office, five employees were milling around talking on their cell phones or resting on chairs. There was no signage identifying it as Economy. The rental counter was one table in this open office building with one surly man, Ivan the Terrible. Ivan had a thick accent. The office looked like some sketchy third world nation popup enterprise. I’d prepaid for the car via Priceline and was going to use my vehicle insurance. The man would not accept my policy number and policy information. He demanded a copy of my policy or no car. Then he tried to sell me their insurance for $40 a day. He refused to accept my insurance and would not rent me the car, so I waited 30 minutes for another ride back to the airport and got a rental car from Dollar. My first instinct was to leave when I walked into their office. I’ve lived overseas and the place reeked of SCAM as soon as I walked in. I won't book on Priceline again.
Apr 28, 2025 · C J RossI hate to give bad reviews but, this was the absolute worse car rental experience of my life. We waited for almost an hour outside denver airport for their shuttle. I tried calling their office 4 times and no one answered.Once we arrived at their office, they informed us that our mid-size SUV rental was a Nissan kick and insurance was $40 a day. Two big people couldn't even sit on the back because the car was so tiny. Our luggage was not able to fit in the tiny trunk and they didn't care. They told us that the next car size up was an extra $30 per day. I was so tired and frustrated. If I could give them a zero start, I would.
May 26, 2025 · Belise TegangCheap prices, yes! Worth the hassle, doubtful!I booked this rental car with Economy Rent-A-Car on Priceline to be picked up at Denver International Airport and saved several hundred dollars compared to other name brand companies. I was not prepared for the hassle and extra 2 hours that it took me to complete the car rental. There are no clear instructions on where to go to board a bus to the car rental places and I (wrongly) assumed certain things of which the renter should be aware. 1) The pick up location is at the very very end of the car rental bus island. 2) The company name that you're looking for is "York" not "Economy"...did they tell me this anywhere in the paperwork, NOPE! 3) You have to CALL for a pickup...did they tell me this anywhere in the paperwork, NOPE! Our driver finally picked us up in a van, not a bus, grudgingly loaded our luggage throwing it around and drove like a NYC cabbie for a good 20 minutes before reaching the location and driving us within inches of other vehicles to drive around their building rather than just pulling into their parking lot and backing the van into an open area. On our drive around their little building, we saw some vehicles being "washed" meaning hosed off. Then he unloaded our luggage with as much care as he loaded it.The rental "counter" is two work tables with 2 tired looking women doing their best with limited language skills. It doesn't matter that you "pre-register" online to avoid the upsell, they barrage you with them anyway. Be aware that they only offer a toll pass for $14.95/day (every day of your rental, not just the day that it's used) and they warn you that if you "accidentally" get a toll charge you will not only be charged the $14.95/day of your rental but also a $50 penalty per toll charge incident. They did not have the full size car that we reserved and tried to downgrade us to a mid-size SUV, into which my 6'-5" husband will not fit. We stuck to our guns and got a regular SUV - Dodge Durango. It was dirty inside and outside and while it was clearly hosed-off, it wasn't clean. You know when dirty water dries on your car and leaves dirty drop spots and drizzles? Yeah...that. The windshield is cracked also.I have yet to return the car and will update this review after I do assuming it's as eventful as our pick up experience!
Sep 08, 2024 · Suzanne Branch - GmailThe biggest rip off. Waited at the airport a hour after landing for a shuttle. Get to the location, they charged a 500.00 deposit which they claim was in the disclaimer, never saw that. I did see there was a zero cancelation. The 40.00 a day for insurance doesn't actually cover anything, you are still responsible for damage to the vehicle. Do not waste your time or money.
