Rent-A-Wreck Introduce
For many residents across Maryland, the need for a rental car often comes with a desire for affordability and practicality. While major rental companies dominate the market, specialized local options like Rent-A-Wreck in Glen Burnie offer a distinct alternative, catering to specific needs for budget-conscious drivers. This article will provide an in-depth look at Rent-A-Wreck, detailing its location, the services it provides, its unique features, and important considerations for local users in the Maryland area looking for a temporary vehicle solution.
Rent-A-Wreck, despite its evocative name, has been in the car rental business for decades, establishing itself as the "oldest and largest used car rental company in the world." Their niche is providing economical rental cars, trucks, and vans, often at rates lower than those offered by larger, conventional rental agencies. For Marylanders, this can translate into significant savings, particularly for extended rentals or when a brand-new vehicle isn't a priority. Understanding their operating model and customer expectations is key to a smooth experience with this unique local provider.
Rent-A-Wreck in Glen Burnie is conveniently located at 7352 Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, USA. This address places it squarely on Ritchie Highway, a major commercial artery in Anne Arundel County, making it highly accessible for residents of Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, and other surrounding communities. Its proximity to significant roadways, including I-97, MD-100, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD-295), ensures that the location is easy to reach from various parts of Maryland.
For those traveling from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), the Glen Burnie location is a short drive away, offering an off-airport alternative that might appeal to those looking to avoid the higher prices or congestion sometimes associated with airport-based rental counters. This strategic positioning on a well-known thoroughfare simplifies the process of picking up and dropping off a vehicle, providing a local, accessible option for Maryland drivers needing a rental.
Economical Vehicle Rentals: Rent-A-Wreck specializes in providing "budget-friendly car rental options." Their fleet typically consists of clean, well-maintained, and safety-inspected used vehicles, which allows them to offer rates that are often more competitive than those for brand-new cars from major agencies. This focus on value makes them a go-to for customers prioritizing cost savings.
Diverse Range of Vehicles (Location Dependent): While known for "economy cars," Rent-A-Wreck locations can stock a variety of vehicle types. This may include compact cars for city driving, full-size sedans, SUVs, minivans, and potentially even trucks or cargo vans in select locations, offering flexibility to suit different travel needs and group sizes. Customers should inquire directly about specific vehicle availability at the Glen Burnie branch.
Flexible Rental Durations: Rent-A-Wreck caters to various rental periods, from daily to weekly or even longer. For locals who need a car for just a day for work, or a few days for errands or temporary transportation, it's important to confirm one-day availability and pricing directly with the Glen Burnie office, as policies can vary and online reservations might not always reflect exact local offerings.
Insurance Requirements: Rent-A-Wreck clearly outlines its insurance requirements. Customers paying with debit cards or cash must have their own liability insurance in their name. Physical damage coverage can be provided by the renter's own policy or purchased through Rent-A-Wreck's coverage. Vehicles must be covered at all times during the rental period. Customers using a major credit card for their deposit may not be required to present separate proof of coverage, simplifying the process for some.
Deposit Policy: While specific amounts vary, customers should be prepared for a security deposit, which is standard in the industry. For those without a deposit beforehand for a basic vehicle, it's often "first come, first serve," indicating that a deposit might secure a specific vehicle or guarantee availability.
Affordable Rates: The primary highlight of Rent-A-Wreck is its commitment to providing economical rental solutions. They are positioned as a "Smart Alternative" to the higher prices of large car rental agencies, making them an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers in Maryland.
Emphasis on Value: Their business model is built around the idea that "savings and value never go out of fashion." This means customers can expect a reliable vehicle without the premium price tag associated with newer models or extensive fleets of high-end cars.
Local Ownership and Operation: As part of a franchise system with locally owned and operated branches, Rent-A-Wreck aims to offer a more personal touch and understanding of local customer needs, contrasting with the often more impersonal experience of large corporate chains.
Used Car Focus: The fleet consists of "used" cars, which allows for lower rental rates. While customers should manage expectations regarding vehicle aesthetics (some may have minor cosmetic imperfections like dents or scratches), the company states its vehicles are "clean, well maintained and safety inspected."
Direct Communication is Key: Based on customer feedback, direct communication with the Glen Burnie branch regarding vehicle availability, exact pricing for specific rental durations (e.g., one-day rentals), and full insurance requirements is crucial for a smooth experience.

For many Maryland residents, particularly those in Anne Arundel County and the greater Baltimore area, Rent-A-Wreck in Glen Burnie offers a practical and budget-conscious solution for their car rental needs. Its easily accessible location on Ritchie Highway makes it a convenient choice, saving locals the commute to more distant or congested rental hubs.
The primary appeal of Rent-A-Wreck is its commitment to providing affordable rates. For someone who needs a vehicle for an emergency, temporary transportation while their car is being repaired, or simply to run errands without breaking the bank, Rent-A-Wreck presents a viable option. While customer experiences can vary, and it's always wise to clarify all terms and conditions directly, the company's focus on "economy" and "value" positions it uniquely in the Maryland rental market. For locals who prioritize cost savings and understand that they are renting a used, yet safety-inspected, vehicle, Rent-A-Wreck serves as a suitable choice, providing a functional means of transport without the premium price tag. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely insanity. I reserve a car. The cheapest that they got. Dont need much. Just something to get to work for the night. I NEVER received a phone call or email (other than the original confirmation email) of any issues. I paid with a major credit card, per the fine print. I also read the fine print. there is no fine print saying a car is not guaranteed. It does however say there is a $50 no-show charge if I did not pick up my car that I reserved. I get there. And am told they dont have a car available that I reserved. Instead they give me a more expensive car not at the online rate. So instead of paying $32 for one day like I reserved and needed. I'm now forced to pay $240 for 2 days. I just wanted one day. But apperently they dont do one day and yet your able to reserve for just one day. And they dont uphold their own fine print and reservations. This is absolutely insanity and am very disappointed in the customer service. I was given a car with dents and scratches. Holes in the seats. Things hanging off of the mirror (which is illegal in the state of MD). I got a car with less than 1/4 of a tank of gas. Was unable to inspect the car BEFORE signing the contract saying I got a full tank of gas and no damages. Low tire pressure in 3 tires. One tire with dry rot. One tire with major tire wear. Oil change over due. Seats are really dirty. And a light that stays on saying a door is open even though I made sure all was closed. It would of been cheaper for me to of just gone to Enterprise. It would of only been $130 for the day, and they give a military discount too. Lesson learned. Then the owner accuses me of not renting from them? Alrighty then. It gets better.
Nov 27, 2018 · Alyssa ShirkI want to start off by saying that I did read everyone else's comments until after I already rented the car, and I'm not really sure what all the negativity is about. Well, maybe some of it I get, but not all of it! Here is the biggest thing about them that I will say that was a turn-off for me, specifically the price of the cars. The car was overpriced, and it definitely had some issues while driving with certain check engine lights and things being on, but honestly, it was just the price. When I went to pick up the car they had the car available and clean and ready for me to take it yes I did have to get my own insurance yes it does have to be full coverage to rent the car but all I had to do was call my insurance company and they did all the work for me I didn't have to do anything else they told my insurance company which car I would be using and for how long I would be using it. They made sure that I got what I asked for and even though I did not send a deposit beforehand because I was looking for a basic small vehicle I guess I was lucky that there was one there but they did inform me that without a deposit it was first come first serve and if I got there and there was no car it was on me. My experience was not as harsh obviously as everyone else's and we all have to take our time and experience things for ourselves for me personally I did not have an issue with any of the things that was going on with my rental and how everything was set up and done other than the fact that the car was so expensive the rental itself is expensive everyday but I understand the deposit I understand the insurance and all the other things are not an issue. If you have an emergency and you really need a car, then this place is fine as long as you have the money to pay for it it's great. If you can get your insurance together and rent a car from them, then you don't have anything to worry about. If you have other issues going on, you are going to have to go someplace else it just is what it is. I hope that this helps in some way. Good luck renting your car, be it here or anywhere else, and I commend you on doing your research and reading all the comments and making your own decision!

Apr 05, 2025 · Fardin AlizadehI hardly leave reviews, let alone any bad reviews, but this was just a horrible experience. After picking up my rental it broke down within a couple of hours on the road. I was left with no working car and their office was closed. After contacting them the next morning I was informed they would be sending someone to pick up the car after I told them I did not feel it was safe to be driven. I paid for the rental for five days and only drove it for 2 hours before the check engine light started flashing and it wouldn't go over 50MPH on the highway. The owner agreed to give me a FULL REFUND after they picked up and returned the car to their location. This has been since March 2021 and still no refund or answer from them! I had to pay for another rental during this time and was promised my money back, but the business did not follow through with their promises.
Jul 17, 2021 · Adiba BaraziTo make a very long story shorter...the 2013 Ford Focus that I rented WAS a "wreck"! A piece of the bumper was broken and it fell off by the time I got home. They told me to put a piece of tape on it. 3 hours into what should have been a 7 hour trip...the transmission stalls. They told me they would cross their fingers and hope I made it. After 10 hours and numerous breakdowns my brother went to check the transmission fluid and there was none in it because there was no feeder tube and no dipstick! High beams didn't work, inside light was broken...and more. I was a whole day late getting home because my brother had to make the repairs himself because I did not have the money to take it to a repair shop. When I returned the car I offered to call it even if they would give me a full refund. The owner agreed. 4 days later the money was not refunded and I never got the deposit back. When I called to find out what had happened.....they kept changing their story and they actually had the nerve to tell me .."Well the car made it down there and made it back didn't it???"They were very condescending and had no empathy at all. I have never been been spoken to so rudely in my life.I have been a Retail Manager for 26 years and I was shocked at how unprofessional and condescending they were to me. When I asked for the General Manager's phone #...I was told that he is never in the store and doesn't like talking to people!!?????Very Shady Business
